- Join me in a relaxed journey through the Dat Riff videos from #1 to #100!
I suspect this will only be interesting to a few of the viewers of this channel, but I wanted to mark the milestone somehow. I started this to share my favourite riffs and keep working my ears, I never suspected there'd be over a hundred videos and feature Allan Holdsworth, Tigran Hamasayan and Vildjharta!

wish I'd discovered your channel much earlier... interesting to hear some backstory
to your videos. Keep dat riffs going!
100% I'll keep going till I run out of good music and I haven't got close yet! :D
Saw Shawn Lane and said "hold on real quick"
Yup I'm a massive fan, I'd probably still rate him as my favourite guitarist, even if my youtube channel content doesn't represent that taste too obviously!
Sir you are an absolute god and inspiration, thanx for doing what you do!
Thanks so much, I'm not stopping any time soon 💪💪💪
Amazing - nice work !! Some great bands and heavy riffs. \m/
Thanks bud, always happy to see you checking in - apparently you've been subscribed for 9 years, it's been an honour!
@@FreepowerUG and I'll be here for another 9!!
I actually found your channel some years ago because I'm also a massive Cloudkicker nerd. This video was actually way more interesting than I first thought it would be
8:15 I agree so much with this, Intervals first two EPs are great
19:41 agree 100% too
42:52 wasn't expecting Nihei here LOL Blame! got such a cool atmosphere, doesn't it feel kinda Februus?
Btw, two things, I feel like we share a bit of the same taste, so, do a Bulb - Sinus cover, and, do you like Autechre? I've been getting into them a lot lately and I think it shares the weirdness, abrasiveness and darkness you find in metal. Check out bladelores, "1 1 is" and Surripere if you want (and feed1 if you really want the weird)
I hear the vibe shared in Februus and Blame! I checked out Sinus and Autechre, definitely enjoyed Autechre more, but I find that Lorn and Author and Punisher scratch my dark synths vibe basically perfectly between them. Still happy to check out more recommendations if you got em!
@@FreepowerUG Hi! Cool that you enjoyed some of that stuff, I feel like Autechre is the kind of band that the more you listen, the more you get their overall vibe and songs become more and more clear. If you want to check some more of the darkier stuff, you could check out Parhelic Triangle, Bine and mesh cinereaL. btw if you feel like listening to an ambient track, VLetrmx is otherwordly. I'm gonna check those 3 bands(?) that you mentioned, so expect another reply lol
Notification squad 🤙 🤙 🤙 🤙 🤙
Dang that was swift! Hope you enjoy it, it's a hefty video of reminiscing over all the fun I've had making stuff for my awesome viewers!
Enjoying it so far :)
You're right about Djent, for me
golden age 2010 - 2012 👌
Heavy band with whammy bar = Fallujah
It's great that there's so many options for listeners now, but I do miss the excitement with that first wave of djent albums and not knowing where the genre was going!
Thanks for that, I must check em out!
Man, I miss miroist. Have you done any riff analysis of his music? That might be fun.
Yep, it looks like he's happily "retired" from making original music. I should definitely do some riff analysis of his stuff, I do love it and I have better ears and theory chops nowadays!
@@FreepowerUG damn, that's pretty sad actually, CURVE is an awesome album, I still rock it almost 7 years later
I noticed your a fan of weird noises and slides. Do you know of psyopus or more specifically chris arp? Dude is a mad man and also makes heavy music with whammy bars. If you don't check out duck tape smiles.
I think I've given Psyopus a listen at some point, but don't recall it at all. I'll go check out that track now! Thanks for the recommendation!
