  • This solo was really satisfying to pick apart and Fredrik's development of a simple motif is awesome. I hope you find something interesting from this lesson, please let me know in the comments if there's anything you'd like me to take a look at.
Thanks to @ryfelmusic/ / rfeliciano17 for the excellent transcription of this solo, really great work and his fingerings make so much more sense than other online tabs! Please consider him if you're looking for professional transcription work! :)
His tab is here for free, I've shifted it to standard tuning for the purposes of this video - www.mediafire.com/file/3lfbpon...

I'm such a sucker for this kind of Holdsworthy solo playing with a focus on outside tonality in metal bands, combined with the heaviness and aggression it creates such an otherworldly feeling, and then the way Fredrik spices it up with his weird rhythmic patterns... so good. It's a shame that bands that do these kinds of solos are incredibly rare as far as I know.
Have you heard of Martyr by the way? Another metal band with crazy Holdsworthesque soloing, if you haven't heard of them I'd recommend you to take a listen to their songs Perpetual Healing(Infinite Pain)(solo is at 3:10) and Nameless, Faceless, Neverborn(solo is at 1:54). Crazy musicians, and there's definitely some Meshuggah influence there too.

Hey! Absolutely agreed on the special vibe of a Holdsworthy solo over an aggressive groove - although seeing as I love both it's hardly surprising I love the combination 😅
Thank for the tip on Martyr, I'll check em out!

Great work as usual. Would love to see the same analysis done on Ivory Tower's solo

Jo dude so I just diacovered your channel. I adore meshugga and infant annihilator. They've got all I Look for in a Band. Another guitar player you could Feature on your channel I Think is chuck schuldiner from death. He does cool solo's and riffs aswell. You could check out the solo from the flesh and the Power it holds. I dont know if it would be interesting for you to Analyse or even if there is stuff to Analyse. But yeah really cool channel dude

Great analysis! And played very well in the other video. But ”Stilfed” should be ”Stifled” in the video's title.
