  • It's a stylish-looking, stylish-sounding instrument, especially in the Synth Pad section where it really breathes and swirls.

    It is well built and for the most part very reliable as long as you do not drop it or break any of those very weak knobs on the top. I like it. It was made during the MC505/MC303 craze

      Yep I've mentioned that in a comment, the knobs are dreadful, one thing this range should have had is a rotary dial to select numbers, edit patches etc, constant button pressing just like the juno D is time consuming.

    Picked one of these up a couple of months ago, quite hard to find and surprisingly it's now over 20 years old. The RS range was replaced by the
    juno D. Having owned the rs5 years ago the major floor in this series coupled with the junobd which I had is the encoders become loose and need servicing a lot. Any MC owners will also notice the same issue. The keybed is not the greatest but it's light and brilliant for gigs so well worth keeping if you can get a decent Flightcase.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  10 місяців тому +2

      Agreed. For me personally I'd choose an MC series groovebox in preference, as the sound set is similar. But that might just be because my playing is not great and it refuses to improve :)

      Think it might be the last keyboard manufactured to have a floppy drive built it which sadly you have to format via the keyboard before you can use.

    Overall it’s a nice complete workstation but I think some sounds could be better! The piano sounds are usable as well as some of synths sounds but most of the the electric bass sounds are thin sounding, l’ve been through most them, maybe there’s more! I felt the same way about some of the drums too! The sequencer isn’t easier to dig into if you’re editing yet it is very easy to record parts and sequences! Hurray for the built in chord functions!

    Rs 70 is one of a kind keyboards from Roland you really can't on Ebay.

      I got mine from ebay and it was cheap, because nobody knows or wants it. Except for the bad keybed it's the "better Juno" in my opinion.

    In regards to lightweight performance keyboards similar to the RS jobs etc I use 2 x GW7's on stage and they are absolutely brilliant, easy to program and so reliable ( apart from the usual roland screen issues over time )

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  10 місяців тому +1

      Someone's selling a GW7 near me for $100, it has sound issues... finger is trembling over the button...

    • @NorthEastEntertainmentChannel
      @NorthEastEntertainmentChannel 10 місяців тому

      @@gearfacts very tempting, the screen issue is actually quite easy to fix along with any key contacts. I've just finished 2 gigs with them again so now 26 with no major issues. I'm looking for a GW8 which seems a rarity to find. On another note have you had chance to have a go on the casio xw-p1? I've got one here and it's unbelievable once you sus out how to edit the sounds.

    I've had an RS-50, which is the same synth, but without the sequencer. It has nice sounds, but because of the cheap hardware it gets totally lost in a mix while playing live. So after hearing the recordings where the RS-50 wasn't hearable at all, I immediately sold it.

    • @looneyburgmusic
      @looneyburgmusic 11 місяців тому +1

      That's a mixing issue, not a synth issue.
      The RS-series were repackaged by Roland as the "updated" Juno, which then spawned a whole line of successful "live performance" synths which are still popular today

    • @sauermusicDE
      @sauermusicDE 8 місяців тому

      "an RS-50, which is the same synth, but without the sequencer" >> Almost.
      - The RS-70 has 64 MB of waveform ROM while the RS-50 has only 32 MB (with more preset patches/drum kits on the RS-70).
      - The RS-70 supports V-LINK-technology for controlling video clips (which requires an additional EDIROL DV-7PR Digital Video Workstation with software-version 1.50 or higher).
