Roy influenced so many artists in his career. In 1963 his opening act for his UK tour was a little known quartet from Liverpool called The Beatles. His opening act for his 64 Australian tour was The Rolling Stones. Elvis was well-known to envy Roy's voice and they were on the same record label - Sun Records. Roy was better known in Europe during the late 60s and 70s. His songs were covered by his fans during this period: Oh Pretty Woman by Van Halen and Blue Bayou by Linda Ronstadt. He regained US popularity when his song "In Dreams" was used in the David Lynch 1986 film Blue Velvet. This helped bring new fans into his circle. Remember how the other members of the Traveling Wilburys, all great musicians in their own rights, were just fan-boys in his presence. With Jeff Lynne helping to produce Roy's last album released after his death 36 years ago this month. As for the writer of the song, Willie Nelson, AKA The Red Headed Stranger, is known better today as a singer but he got his start as song-writer, writing this and other great songs. Probably his best-known being "Crazy" by the late and great Patsy Cline. I am glad that you enjoyed this Christmas song, seldom played today but still one of my favorites. Just like Crying was which I hoped you would like.
Roy's voice was so perfect at conveying emotion as well as beauty
