As another who works in a NHS hospital I’m very confident that nobody actually died alone. I know it’s not the same as having loved ones with them, but I really don’t think anyone died alone.
If a patient is ready unstable enough that death is a possibility then that patient would be connected to a bunch of monitoring equipment that’ll pretty much scream the ward down around them. These alarms will always bring nurses.
Now granted I’m not one of the clinical staff, but every nurse I know would fight their hardest to save the patient or if that’s not possible then at least sit and at least talk and hold the hand (still with PPE on of course) as they wouldn’t want anyone to truly die alone.
