First heard this song on the Radio back in 1975 as a 16 year old and fell in love with it , was searching for it for years . Now i have it on my ITunes list , and its one of my most played tunes
I heard this song once in 1983 and could not find out who sang it. After about 10 years of trying to find it, there was a great old record shop in Birmingham called Reddingtons rare records, I went in there and asked the bloke serving for a song called ‘Joe’, the guy looked puzzled and asked me to sing it! I wanted the song so much, I did, he immediately walked from behind the counter and took me to a rack of CD’s and I bought a compilation CD of Island records which had the track on by Murray Head. I also bought a Gary Brooker album ‘ No more fear of flying’ which had a cover of the song. I still love the song.
Reddingtons, I remember it well..The Hollies have also covered this song. Murray's an underrated talent and has an excellent back catalogue. Check out 'Shade' (1982)
Love that story!! After decades of hearing this song and not knowing the story behind the lyrics until THIS YEAR…made perfect sense to me. I won’t spoil it, in case you don’t know and want to. I never would have guessed. 😅 Just Google it. 😊
I fell in love with this when I saw Murray Head when he was the support act for Elton John’s Louder than Concorde tour back in 1976. Happy, carefree days.
So I heard it on a tv show (Snowpiercer) then I asked my mother do you know this song ? she said of course! here's the old vinyl followed an amazing night of discovery ! Music is amazing!
Underrated & underplayed is right. What a searingly haunting song. I didn't take to Murray's voice straight away but love him now. Lena's cover is breathtaking; so moving. An anthem for all times. Maybe never moreso than now with our world is such danger. What a heart breaking & making song for me.
I honestly love your posts and always enjoy reading them in my lonely spare time. I'm so sorry I invaded your privacy, but I'd love to be friends with someone who could share such sensitive post content, which means you're a woman of integrity. I wanted to add you but sending you a friend request without your consent is inappropriate because I'm a public figure and it wouldn't take much either, I'd appreciate it if you send me a friend request now so we can be friends and text better here on UA-cam
Murray was the support act for Elton John on his 1976 tour. I saw him at the Earls Court London gig which was a monster 20,000 seat venue. Here we are 48 years later and I cannot remember much about Elton but I can clearly picture Murray doing this and blowing us all way.
First heard this song in 1995. It was featured in the movie, Kids of the Round Table. I've loved it ever since. When I found out that this song was by Murray Head, I was surprised that it was a hit in 1976 because I didn't remember hearing the song back then.
I'm getting misty listening to this.I was kid when I first heard this and I never thought I would again. This has rattled in my mind for 40 plus years and I decided to see if I could find it.Thank you.
My Mom died tragically on the 6th of October this year. It seems to be an accident, but I'm realizing that she probably took her life. This song comes right out of my heart saying say it's ain't so😢
Absolutely love this song
Magnifique chanson et superbe voix... Quel talent M. Head !

Sounds like a very good concert. I hope you were lucky enough to see Genesis on their "A trick of the tail" tour, that year. Those were the days.
Aug 4 2024 first time I’ve heard it and now I’ve heard it 3x in a row. ❤️😎

They don't write songs like this anymore and definitely don't sing like this anymore...70s/80s/90s after that 90s NOTHING

There is a message in here! What is it ? country is falling apart etc.
A long long Time ago ….
Sounds almost exactly as the record. I wonder how they do that
Roger Daltrey's version of this song is the best version.
👍😻😎❤️
I can't be everywhere
Marian Gold, lead singer of Alphaville, made a cover in 1996 of this song....incredible and maybe better than the original version!!!!
