They're a bitch to maintain. A common rule is to always have $1000 in your Z Emergency Fund. They seem to break things frequently, but most people love the fun of driving them enough to stay with them. I just had my engine rebuilt. ($4000)

My Camaro running good last year when I first got it but then the last owner didn't have the correct parts on it and others weren't maintained. after fixing those issues the car runs fantastic. (about $5,000) and another $4,000 for the car its self when I bought it.
I disagree my 300ZX Twin Turbo in this picture is my daily, and it has lasted me for 4 years with no problems! The only thing I've had to do in this time frame is replace the clutch shortly after I first bought it and the slave cylinder! It's all how you take care of it
This presentation was surprisingly comprehensive & educational. As a proud z32 TT 2 + 2 owner who genuinely loves everything about this beauty, we thank you for this presentation.
Cars like this is probably why I grew up fond of Japanese cars; incredibly powerful, fuel-efficient (for it's time), great looks, attention to details & reliability to top it off. Most American & European cars manufactured during this time often can't make the same claims. Even though it's nearly 20 years old, I still will gladly take this 300ZX Twin Turbo over a 350Z or even a 370Z. The VG30DETT sounds amazing vs. the newer larger VQ35 & VQ37 motors.
If you don't mind the fact it is a 20+ year old car which means constant upkeep & repairs, you probably can. Also mechanically the Z32 can mostly be done by a garage or someone who knows how to wrench his/her own cars, most definitely.
.... it's an antique car now, it's nearly 30 years old now 😊 still I nice looking car ✌🏼 ...if the plastic bodywork was updated, it would sell just fine today.
I bought the first shipment into San Francisco - 1 per dealer - a red 1990 Twin Turbo Z for $35,000 with leather interior. I waited to buy the same car (non Turbo) my Infiniti 2005 G35 for the same $35,000 - identical specs 300hp, weight ext. I dumped another $10K for about 35hp with Stillen Exhaust, Cold Air intakes, short throw stick (love), catback exhaust - way louder and funner than my ticket me red Z was - a silver stealth G. Back in 1990 it was the fastest super car beating the Corvette and the 911 (no turbo that year.). I had a license plate frame that said Porsche Substitute with what would be now illegal terrosist plates - 911SREZ. ;-). I also raced a Testerossa convertable like the video game with a guy and his blond girlfriend from Skyline out to the Beach in woodside. Well, when the bottomed out on a turn, sparks flew and he almost lost it, I'd say the Z won. When I passed him at 120, we were even, and finally got to HW 1 at San Gregorio - we did a 1/4 race up hill... now with 350hp over my 300hp in the Z, he pulled out about a 100 feet in front of me, when we crested the hill at 100mph, I decided, that was enough of a road match and turned around. When I drove back, there was an empty cop car that we blew by at the top of the hill at 100mph! True Story. FYI - driving the new auto Infiniti Q60 with 400hp+ auto - it's fast but heartless and quiet. I'll take my old cars anyday. Lastly google - Ridley Scoot Twin Turbo 300ZX 1990 ad, it ran once during the superbowl and was banned - awesome blade runner ad.
Well done, Kyle, as always!! This 300ZX is still one of my favorite cars of all time!! It was in such pristine condition!! Thanks for the test drive and everything
Well done excellent tribute to my favorite car. Takes me back to when I cut a much more dashing figure with my willing and able steed. Beautiful car. I highly recommend every car enthusiast owns one once in their life.
A few critiques from an owner of this exact model / color scheme 1991 model TT. First - you put the key in upside down 1:44. Next - the vent near the driver door 13:30 - that is not to blow air on your legs - that's a vent that matches up with the door when closed to deliver air on the driver / passenger windows for vent located on door. These are nits - overall this is an excellent overview of the 90's Z car!
well you can put the key in either way, still works and at 13:30 i dont think he is talking about the vent pictured because he says "vent BENEATH the steering column"
khan brah I didn't say it wouldn't work upside down, just that's the way he put the key in. Also, you're wrong. He's clearly making note of the large air vent being shown on camera. Almost EVERY car has "feet" vents - go take a look at the vent controls on whatever type of car you drive. If he actually knew what that vent was for, he'd point it out because how many cars of that era have air vents actually inside the door?
There actually is a small vent on the bottom of the steering column, FYI I had a 1996 NA before you reiterate "I know cause I own one", feel around for it, it's there

Haha, I love it when you do modern-classic cars. Great video. I have only one complaint and it has nothing to do with your video. When you were shifting, you were pushing the gas too hard too soon. That's why you spiked the rpm a few times and skidded the tires going into second. That's really bad for the transmission. You should only be giving it enough gas to keep the rpm in the optimal range while the clutch is in motion. After you completely let go of the clutch, THEN you can nail the gas. This is better for the transmission as it reduces slipping and jarring and makes the car and more stable.
i think its mainly because of the introduction of CAD (computer assisted design) some designer probably went nuts with the whole "look what i can fit in here" mentality
0-60 in 6.7 seconds? There is something wrong with a twin turbo v6 and amanual transmission putting down such crap numbers. Its actually more like 5.6-5.8 seconds for the manual twin turbo. Please make that correction. A 6.7 second car doesn't chirp wheels in 3rd gear lol.
I apologize, I didn't catch that beforehand. The specs I gave were for the non-turbo models. The correct numbers should be around 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and around 13.9 second 1/4 mile.

Joshua Hall That’s incorrect. Slicktop 2+0 TT’s were made in RHD form for the Japanese market only, from factory. Less than 600 were made. The rest of the world got 2+0 Slicktop N/A’s.
What is the driver doing; its time to shift and instead of going into the next gear he lets it roll in neutral? Definitely needs a better driver this car
It's fine with me I still love the nissan and the 80s supra liftback not the FnF one for come reason it doesn't appeal to me. Yet the supra from the 80's was quite odd I like its 3 door look more.
Yeah they have the looks and power to make someone happy but I'm going to go off topic now... The "1971 Nissan Skyline GT-R 2000" as forza Motorsport calls it is the one I love if that's the best car to me from the 79's my dad would say it would be useless since he's the muscle car person he say "I bet the camaro in stock from would beat that but it still looks ok".
No the Z didn't beat the Supra...In all honesty, they were all right at the 5 sec mark or a few ticks below for supra and Vr-4 because of AWD for the vr-4. Look at the rest of the cars during that time period. An E36 M3, even though I love M3's just didn't have enough power and then it took until 2001 to bring the E46 M3, which definitely compares. The first 300zx twin turbo was a 1990, 3000GT VR-4 in 1991 and rx-7 and supra in 1993.
That's 64k new in today's dollars. I guess they forgot about the affordable part. Whenever I see these nowadays they always look abused and neglected for such a well thought out machine. The 90's really were Japan's auto golden years. Also for someone who owns a top of the line spotless example of a 300zx why does he rest his hand on the shifter?
Wow, you're ignorant... The 300ZX and Lambo Diablo use the same headlights, even the part numbers are identical. Try googling next time, before you post annoying, redundant comments.
Actually I owned a 1990 300ZX Twin Turbo and yes Lambo did borrow the Z32 headlights for their Diablo & there are plenty of videos out there revealing this
Nice car! Guy needs to learn how to hold a steering wheel though. Won't critique the manual driving too much but there's a lot of bad driving habits going on here.
... like coasting through bends in neutral for instance!! However, an extremely detailed and informative review nonetheless. Glad he took the time to show us all.
He doesn't need to br Mario Andretti, the driving skill was abissmal at best. 2nd to 5th upshifts, coasting in neutral, short shifting instead of double clutching.....
His shifting was fine. I did hear at one point he spun the tires a little. It has a lot of power. if your not used to the clutch it's easy to break the tires loose. With this car, sometimes you do that for fun. 😎
Out of all Z videos, this one left me asking for more. I actually just painted mine silver a few months ago and I love it even more now. Thank you for such a great video doing the Fairlady z32 300zx TT justice. Greetings from california.
I had the chance to drive a Turbo once. the acceleration is powerful. A great toy to have in the collection. This car has always been pretty especially back in it's day when most cars were not nearly as sexy. Most cars just started turning curvy in the early 90's
coasting to neutral is actually recommended when coming to a stop, instead of riding the clutch and be stuck in 1st gear when you come to a stop. And besides brakes are cheaper then a new clutch, and no putting the car into Neutral is not inefficient, and no shifting into neutral does not make you loose control of the car, if anything it actually alleviates your legs and saves more on fuel, because that way your engine doesnt have to turn any gears to get going and it keeps your RPMs low, however be warned that if youre not coming to a stop you should engage the right gear, and in some extreme cases rev match the gear so that the transmission doesnt jolt or vibrate, when it pulls it up to 5,000 rpm or hell who knows, maybe youre such a bad driver you accidentally shifted down so much youre not even in the right gear and it goes past 6,500 way over the red line. If it bogs down a little that means you dint rev match properly, if you shifted down and it went past redline thats really bad and in the long run if you keep doing this over many years it will actually hurt more the transmission then the actual clutch itself, there is no rocket science here, just pure mechanic physics at work, and i suggest you catch up on it before posting false information. With that being said, the guy in the video coasting on neutral at that speed then engaging the gear and not rev matching definetly vibrated the transmission a bit, if he keeps doing that for long, hes gonna have a pissed off mechanic in his hand and a hefty bill
Oh and im an american that plays racing video games and i dint take any lessons to pass my drivers test in real life, i know how to drive manual and im very offended at that comment >:|
The proper way to drive a manual is to leave it in the present gear until the rpms drop to above stalling the engine, then depress the clutch and put it into 1st. Neither putting the gearbox in neutral nor downshifting as you mention is correct. It is annoying, but how he's clutching, shifting and everything down to his voice is frigging annoying.
Shock Diamond Everyting you say is also annoying. He drives in his way, and you drive in your way, he think he is correct and you think you are the expert...
Per-Martin Bjørk I never said I was an expert. Then again, if you actually take driving lessons with a manual, that is how they teach you to drive... So an expert does know, regardless. Shh.
Whoever was doing the driving wouldn't pass a driving test in this country. Driving around a sweeping bend with one hand resting on the gear stick and the other hand on the bottom of the steering wheel; frequently coasting in neutral. Truly terrible driving.
Stevenhiggles though its better to wear your brakes out before your clutch when doing that youre losing safety. If somebody was to pull out infont of you, swerve into your lane etc, you're not in as much control over the car as you would be in gear.
It's 100% unnecessary to downshift to slow down unless you are descending a steep grade. And with modern cars, brakes are a lot more heat resistant so there is almost no need to downshift descending a hill.
Depending on what state you live in (assuming you are from the US) it is illegal to place the car in neutral to apply the breaks. Despite how easy it may be. The thought process that +Juan Gonzales mentions is why.
My all time favorite of the 90's JDM crowd (NSX, Supra Turbo, RX-7, 3000GT VR-4). Great video taking me on a trip down memory lane. My uncle had a 74 260Z and I loved that car so much as a kid. He took me to my first IMSA race at Road Atlanta and the (then) new 300ZX made its debut there and I was in love! I sure wish Nissan (and the others) still made cars like this (though the 370Z ain't bad)...
Sorry, can't help it, blame strict copyright laws. I'm not about to let a greedy label make money off of my creation because I used their song on the radio to show how it works.
I do not agree AT ALL. Americans make some of the best cars. I say Americans shouldn't make stupid "economy cars" also known as, "obama cars". You people are just so lucky you don't have to deal with the worst president ever.
Supernice review as always. Small detail, the wheels are mounted backwards. Star needs to point forward , this way the wheels pull heat away from the brakes.
Wow, I really appreciated this video. Thank you so much. You always have the most amazing reviews and overviews on cars. Such an inspiration for me to get a new car. Thanks!

"T-Tops as your only roof choice." then how come I have a slick-top?
Bujar Saliu Turbos only came in T-Tops, from what I understand.
@@TheClash122 nah man I've owned a factory slicktop tt. My mate owns one now too. Not common but defi n itely exist
@@slicktop2jz855 the only option for non 2+0 300zx tt targa you could get was a targa 2+2 tt, no tt verts on slicktops were ever made, if you own ones its been converted
Joshua Hall That’s incorrect. Slicktop 2+0 TT’s were made in RHD form for the Japanese market only, from factory. Less than 600 were made. The rest of the world got 2+0 Slicktop N/A’s.
I remember in 1989 my senior year in high school, reading about this car in Motor Trend and it was in yellow, The future was looking bright
What is the driver doing; its time to shift and instead of going into the next gear he lets it roll in neutral? Definitely needs a better driver this car
I was thinking the same thing!!! Why is he doing this???
He’s swinging it round like it’s his boyfriends pecker
He coasts in neutral, maybe because he drives two strokes a lot or something. It is weird tho.
stfu
It was making me crazy...
I was lookin for this review just a couple days ago and there wasnt one ...im happy you finally did it
Best car from Japan to USA then since we didn't see a R34, but… did the 300ZX beat the Supra?
supra beat the 300zx NAvsNA and TTvsTT
It's fine with me I still love the nissan and the 80s supra liftback not the FnF one for come reason it doesn't appeal to me. Yet the supra from the 80's was quite odd I like its 3 door look more.
SuperLiomessi10 and in looks to be honest.
More informative than TV show reports keep up the good work mate.
Its a bad habit that many people have (such as myself)
In today's dollars...yeah around $60K
Applying a 2014 mindset to a 1993 car. Don't know much about 20th century cars?
God when I first saw it on the Internet it thought it was ugly but when I saw it in person I really loved it and now I want one.
Lambo Headlights :)
Those are not Lambo headlights. Lambo headlights are more square
Wow, you're ignorant... The 300ZX and Lambo Diablo use the same headlights, even the part numbers are identical. Try googling next time, before you post annoying, redundant comments.
BreakItLikeItsHot yea he just put a simple comment but you start chomping him off.
Actually I owned a 1990 300ZX Twin Turbo and yes Lambo did borrow the Z32 headlights for their Diablo & there are plenty of videos out there revealing this
They are nissan headlights, do some research before posting daft comments :)
So glad to see you hoon the hell out of this car. One of your strongest reviews and a great example of the car.
Nice car! Guy needs to learn how to hold a steering wheel though. Won't critique the manual driving too much but there's a lot of bad driving habits going on here.
... like coasting through bends in neutral for instance!! However, an extremely detailed and informative review nonetheless. Glad he took the time to show us all.
Great review, I used this video to purchase my jdm 93 300zx. What a thrill to have and drive. Good job buddy!
Driver definitely was not the best at shifting...
Okay Mario Andretti. Where’s your UA-cam channel?
He doesn't need to br Mario Andretti, the driving skill was abissmal at best. 2nd to 5th upshifts, coasting in neutral, short shifting instead of double clutching.....
That neutral thing had .e very confused
His shifting was fine. I did hear at one point he spun the tires a little. It has a lot of power. if your not used to the clutch it's easy to break the tires loose. With this car, sometimes you do that for fun. 😎
Out of all Z videos, this one left me asking for more. I actually just painted mine silver a few months ago and I love it even more now. Thank you for such a great video doing the Fairlady z32 300zx TT justice. Greetings from california.
Glad you enjoyed it buddy, thanks for watching!
my grandpa had the 1990 300zx in black with a big lip
my dad had a 1996 in red completely stock and IT WAS BEAT UP THE ENGINE BLEW ON HIM
Should've nicknamed it Bubba Gump
Saabkyle04 your the best car reviewer
Welcome to good burger, home of the good burger, may I take your order?
Hahaha classic
LMAO I love that joke!
lolz! where did you notice that joke? good burger movie?
This car is a beast. :) Love it. Nice little test drive too.
holding the shifter in place while driving is not needed...lol and its actually bad on ur trans...
Not needed in an auto trans either but I've never had problems
yea very true, but i keep my hand on my shifter out of habit sometimes you can just help it
I had the chance to drive a Turbo once. the acceleration is powerful. A great toy to have in the collection. This car has always been pretty especially back in it's day when most cars were not nearly as sexy. Most cars just started turning curvy in the early 90's
Shifting to neutral is both dangerous and inefficient/not economical
Why is it dangerous?
Charlie Allen
Because you don't have control over the car when in neutral, and holding steering wheel like that is just stupid.
Americans should really have to take driving lessons in a manual before they are allowed to drive one.
coasting to neutral is actually recommended when coming to a stop, instead of riding the clutch and be stuck in 1st gear when you come to a stop.
I love this review. ive always loved the 300zx as a boy. and bought my 300 after re viewing this vid as an adult. thanks bud!!!
marty Charron 92 and silver. all stock. nothing else needed on this baby
marty Charron happy for you man
vg30dett
FINALLY! I have been waiting a long time for this video :D
jesus can he stop put it in to neutral!? have that owner ever heard of engine braking ?? really annoying
Shock Diamond are you serious
Shock Diamond Everyting you say is also annoying. He drives in his way, and you drive in your way, he think he is correct and you think you are the expert...
jaktar666 Yes.
Per-Martin Bjørk I never said I was an expert. Then again, if you actually take driving lessons with a manual, that is how they teach you to drive... So an expert does know, regardless. Shh.
It's about freaking time you found one of these.
Whoever was doing the driving wouldn't pass a driving test in this country. Driving around a sweeping bend with one hand resting on the gear stick and the other hand on the bottom of the steering wheel; frequently coasting in neutral. Truly terrible driving.
Great job on the review... 1993 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo all the way...
Instead of down shifting to slow the car down, the driver puts it in neutral and brakes. He needs a lesson on how to drive a manual.
Or maybe he can just drive the car however the hell he feels like driving it? Didn't know there was a standard way of driving a manual car.
Uh, putting it in neutral and braking is better on the car. What's more expensive, the clutch or brakes?
So glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching :)
I'm already sick of this music that plays every time for audio system testing.
Sorry, can't help it, blame strict copyright laws. I'm not about to let a greedy label make money off of my creation because I used their song on the radio to show how it works.
***** There are plenty of other copyright free songs out there.. you just use the same one...
flexor212000 Yeah, they're also quite expensive lol. I'll look into getting some more in the future.
+Saabkyle04 no they are free people comment use our free music all the time
Saabkyle04 for four years I’ve been watching your channel why to you turn the hazard lights on when you tour the car would love to knows
Every video, I swear... you always have appropriate music.
Wheel police.
That thing sounds great! And nice driving too! :)
it kinda sounds like an r35 gtr
+Mustang15guy both have v6s
+jacob harrison Straight 6 not v6
+Claydough18 2:02
+jacob harrison The RB35 has a straight six. I know these cars come with a V6. You commented that they both have V6's
+Claydough18 they do
HA!! That's SICK, man! I've been watching your vids for a long time, man and I NEVER thought I'd see you do a vid about my beloved Z32. Very cool.
Americans should not buy cars with manual transmission..
No...people that suck ass at driving cars with manual transmissions should not buy cars with manual transmissions.
I do not agree AT ALL. Americans make some of the best cars. I say Americans shouldn't make stupid "economy cars" also known as, "obama cars". You people are just so lucky you don't have to deal with the worst president ever.
CPBlackopsMW3 you lost me at Obama cars, man.
CPBlackopsMW3 That was probably the most unintelligent comment I've ever read. People like you make people hate America
^ so much this.
Picking up mine Monday I’m super excited.
Great reviews Kyle ..and am not talking about this car in particular ..keep the good work buddy ..Greetings from Finland.
Great review as always. Whenever I need my overdose of knowledge I know who to come too!!
Supernice review as always.
Small detail, the wheels are mounted backwards. Star needs to point forward , this way the wheels pull heat away from the brakes.
It is one of the best videos based on a Nissan so care , good job! I hope look more!
One of the best sports cars ever made
My friend got a NA one with 700.000km +
Still runs great
Great review we need more videos of cars pre-UA-cam and Google. I loved it!
Wow, I really appreciated this video. Thank you so much. You always have the most amazing reviews and overviews on cars. Such an inspiration for me to get a new car. Thanks!
One of my all time favorite cars.
One of my favorite body shapes.
Beautiful car. Lots of goodies for a 21 year old car. Classic Japanese sports car.
This is the best looking Nissan ever made. I not a big Nissan fan, but always had weak spot for the 300ZX.
It looks so awesome in person. My grandma has one, it's awesome
its about time he gets to be behind the wheel of the most legendary z car made.
A better looking car than most sports cars today
Another great one that shows up randomly in my feed today. Thanks Kyle!!
Good work Kyle! Nissan sure knows how to make a car! I love the G35 and 350Z! My 350Z video is like 200,000 views now I think. People just LOVE that car! Lots of girls too! Keep doing your thing Kyle! :D
