    Personally, I would prefer to find a car in a barn that invokes my own nostalgia, maybe from my childhood, much more than some old super car. I remember doing some work for someone last year, I went in their old wooden bottom-of-the-garden shed, and found an old Rover SD1 staring at me. Nothing on it or leaning up against it, just crazy dusty, webby and fit in that small shed - just big enough for its large size. Gave me instant goosebumps. Thanks guys. Lee

    Superb guest - Jonny's appreciation of interesting cars and the stories they continue to tell is wonderful. Solid point around sponsorship - as a consumer I am happy to sit through an ad if it's paying for the production of enjoyable, well-produced, thoughtful content!

    Always interesting to hear discussions about online automotive content, and Jonny's one of the best in the business. I think a bit of caution is required with Andrew's comments about how how UA-cam has democratised content creation though. While that's true, there is a big difference between "giving it a go" and actually being successful. For someone like Jonny, who already had a profile, he had a big advantage when trying to get his channel off the ground. It's similar for TI. Both Andrew and Dan are well-known in the automotive media sphere, so it makes it easier for them. That's not to take anything away from their achievements, as it still require a lot of work but, when you're in the position that they are, it's easy to say "anyone can give it a go". If they were starting from zero, I suspect their viewpoint may be slightly different. In reality, having success in automotive content creation is probably harder than it's ever been in some respects. Making an impact in a world that has millions of hours of content available, where algorithms favour popular content, where the major outlets are so focused on such a small group of established contributors, and where most entry-level editorial jobs are paid so poorly, is not easy at all.

    Like Johnny, I do find some of the "hate" for EVs very interesting. As a biker and general Petrolhead, I also enjoy owning a BEV. I am sure the tribal hate is connected to the fact that people are afraid of change and would rather fight for being WRONG than admit that something new could be OK.

    • @DavidChong
      @DavidChong 2 місяці тому

      nothing wrong with EVs except they're often heavy & expensive, but given enough time both those things should hopefully improve

    • @mikadavies660
      @mikadavies660 2 місяці тому +1

      @DavidChong As I said... I'm a biker. I've owned V8s AMGs Sports Cars. I also drive trucks. However, even a petrolhead like me actually enjoys driving BEVs.... as well as driving ICE. They all have their own styles ... positives and negatives. But as for BEV, with careful selection..... "Price" can be very cheap and competitive. I pay £265/mth for my BEV.... However, I save £150/mth in NOT buying petrol. There are very brand new cars at just over £100/mth...!! Usually it's £500/mth + Petrol

      so sorry but EVs have no place outside cities; as an "EV hater", I don't actually hate the cars themselves as much as the lies around them; EVs don't save the planet; EVs are ecological(the processes involved in making batteries are absolutely horrendous) and also the industry tries to push them like there is no tomorrow, as being the best ever versions of the automobile, dropping crazy, easy to achieve, amounts of power on them in the quest to outperform ICE cars.
      The thing is, current ICE cars are already to fast to be really enjoyable on the current road network and, even more pace isn't the thing I and also we, the enthusiasts, should look about! No one needs 1000 hp SUVs and 1200 hp sedans; what we really need is greater efficiency, less weight(much less!) and, as an enthusiast, more engaging and involvement during a drive; I drove already a couple of EVs and on the driving involvement side they are close to zero, their only party trick being that acceleration from zero to something, which can be impressive but, if you're past your teen years, ad nothing to the driving experience; they are also awful at real pace of a back road or a mountain pass and you'll be obliged to slow down fast due to the lack of range at said pace;
      They are a decent proposition inside the cities where it actually cost pennies to drive them but this doesn't negate all the other shortcomings.
      If you are passionate about cars and passionate about driving, EVs simply don't make the cut!(and also, objectively, the technology and efficiency aren't sufficiently evolved at the current times)
      p.s. and I didn't even bring into discussion the resale value..which is comically bad.

    • @mikadavies660
      @mikadavies660 2 місяці тому

      @eugenux There are massive lies everywhere, when it comes to cars. Clean Diesel, Self Charging Hybrids on an on. I agree that the current technology is too new and is far from fully developed. EVs are certainly not saving the planet but in Cities they are helping with pollution. Currently we are nowhere near EV Sports Cars but there are uses where they work. Our BEV cost virtually nothing to rent monthly and the wife and kids love it. I'm happy with my motorbikes... as paying £200,000 for a sports car isn't my thing.

    Good to see Jonny here. I've actually drove John Wayland's White Zombie back in the late 90's, albeit at very low speeds in the race paddock (I was involved with a Porsche 914 EV circuit racing car). It's a Datsun 120Y sedan.

    Second show I've watched... And I have ADD 😁. But it's real good. I'm American and know Jonny from Fifth Gear and I'm not into electric -- albeit I have owned 2 Taycans - Turbo S and a Turbo -- but just sold my Turbo... Hate EV's... Lifeless and a pain. ICE from here on in until the government shoots me.
