  • In this video, Phyllis shares her insights on the importance of having a good idea that is both obvious and cool, and how this can lead to a successful business. Drawing from her personal experience of running a business, she stresses the importance of personal branding and authenticity, which she believes are critical in endorsing a business. She provides guidance on how to establish a two-word brand that accurately represents one's true self.
Phyllis also touches on the topic of code-switching, where individuals change their behavior or language to fit into different social settings, and advises against it. Instead, she encourages people to show up as their best selves, which will attract like-minded people who appreciate and value authenticity.
The speaker also emphasizes the importance of respecting the rules of the house in different cultures.

It was mesmerizing to see how Phyllis energy brought out more in Chris from the relational awareness side of the conversation which is how brands come to life. Convo was VIBRANT.
Feelings, needs, communication, conflict resolution, identity, expression of identity and how it all works together as a system in culture of which quality branding must investigate to resonate.
Some brands are about "here I am, this is how I do it" authenticity and other brands are authentic in how they centre their Service around the user's needs.
This mirrors human paths of evolution (either self, or other driven) which actually is part of the design, there is no 'better' especially if empathy is balanced with a healthy sense of self.
Both self-aware self care, or self-aware design; both will resonate deeply with those on similar paths.

Usually each and every one of your videos have me hooked because of the authenticity & various perspectives . But this video took us all into a space we haven’t been in within your segments . I feel as though I’m at a barbecue cookout sitting with a long distant aunt who just happens to be killing it with a strong business mindset . It’s crazy because I just voiced this to myself yesterday how I wish I had someone like this within my family in terms of mentoring. This felt too relatable Phyllis felt like family. Even crazier I went to a school called Phillis Wheatley Elementary . Thanks Again Chris 🤧🤌🏾

I loved, loved, loved this conversation. Particularly, the discussion around the complexities of culture. I am a former teacher and the grandmother of a beautiful little human who is Black and Cambodian and I have found that this idea of the model minority is an unfortunate and stifling stereotype and can be damaging to relationships with other folks of color.
More conversations like this are needed- in general. Lighter note, Brandmother Phyllis definitely inspired this Bibi (grandma) AND I am learning sooo much from your videos as I build my brand-thank you, Chris!

Although this is a GREAT video with amazing points, let me be clear… she does NOT represent all black women.
We express our passions in many different and unique ways!
And there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with her use of language… just not representative of the black culture as a whole (respectfully).
I appreciate the disclaimer because I don’t use profanity… but AWESOME video on personal branding 🙏🏽

I find it kinda strange this needs to be said but i understand why. Many don't understand that the Black American community or Culture is made up of various subcultures, each with select principles and can often be generalized due to popular media. Its always best to remember, these individuals represent themselves first before they represent anyone else, unless elected in some fashion.
