I'm not very often impressed by trade skills videos on UA-cam. But this caught me by surprise. I can honestly say that I would never have come up with this ingenious method. I'm someone who will use any tool that suits to get a job done. But this is the cleverest and simplest solution to a problem that I have seen so far. It's the simplicity of it that makes it so impressive. So, thanks!!

We try to think of best way to do stuff our self and this worked out very well.
We looked into hiring someone and saved $500.00 doing it our self.

I'd been thinking about various ideas for lowering clay liner into my 160year old brick and lime built chimney. I was considering putting eye-bolts into the clay pieces.
And then I saw the first few seconds of this video - and I immediately knew that this is the most brilliant solution.
Did you guys come up with the car jack idea.
Einstein came up with some smart stuff - but nothing quite as ingenious as that!!!

Thanks for comment. It was windy and hard to hear up there. But they worked together well. All three guys are brothers.

OMG... you get the McGuyver Award!!! Thank you so much... this is the way my mind works but I just couldn't put together how I was going to rig an expander from the inside of my flue tile. Love this so much!!! :D (Just curious as you said your chimney is over 180 years old... where is this located?)

Larry I believe it was $500.00 if we hired someone plus the material. We were told it would take two men. Not many people do this work around here so it is good to know you can do it yourtself.

Larry ,yes they are. When the fire was going and burn that wire they replaced that with my wire clothesline .. Sometimes you have to just make due with what you have. The car jack was a good idea , just like the pipes from the swimming pool.

Can you use this kind of liner for a wood burner as I have brick chimney from the basement to the upstairs roof and it has this type liner in it but its square and in perfect condition and the propane furnace use to be hooked to it but it is now hooked to pvc pipes and nothing is hooked to the chimney now.

Yes you can use them for any fuel exhaust. Coal, wood, oil, gas etc. Terra-cotta has been used for 1000’s of years for wood and will last 100+ years.

Thanks for your comment but this is over 180 year old already so that is pretty good already to have lasted that long.

Note: The price quoted was $500.00 to install the liner; remember though, that is to install it. Not to ream out the bricks that prevented two foot sections from sliding down. We spent an extra 4 or 5 hours working on that plus an hour in the shop making the stand and reamer. So my guess would be an extra $500.00 if you were lucky.

Putting a clay tile liner down a chimney...so sad. Useless and short life. Here's your sign...
