    Dear Tom, I have been thinking of you all day. I would like to send many blessings to you and your family. I know many years have passed, but grief does not get any easier.
    I got your book yesterday. I took it as a sign for me to start reading Daniel's story today. I am sorry for your loss and I just wanted to reach out to let you know that your courage is outstanding and appreciated. Your son must be proud of you. Greetings from Italy.

      It's not just the internet it's everywhere , our country is corrupt and will always turn a blind eye. I'm friends with someone who also survived columbine Richard Colstaldo said it best every time this happens its as American as Apple pie no one is surprised by it anymore except the families involved it's sad but true, I'm not saying things shouldn't be done but I'm saying it's like standing up to a metal wall and all you have is your words I've tried my friend I've done support pages and awareness programs after awhile people stopped supporting because they know standing up to the government is impossible Appearently no one cares anymore and according to what I've been told we are supposed to wait for it to happen again.

      +duckymagic57 Oh give me a break, duckymagic. What gun rights are we rying to "roll back"? The right to sell a gun to a criminal or mentally disturbed person? I've responded to a # of ur messages but you rarely address or refute my statements. I have NOT deleted your messages as I think u claimed. Why should I? I want people to see the ridiculous arguments of ur side. But I won't respond any more. U appear to be one of those 'angry old white men' who has a lot of time on his hands. I don't. My lack of response isn't a sign that I don't have a response. In the end, neither of us will change each others minds. My goal is to reach the large majority of Americans who are in the middle on this issue--they respect the 2nd Amendment but also understand the need for restriction and see they're not incompatible. Like me, I think many are sick and tired of people who seem to treat gunshot victims as just collateral damage. That's how I think u view them.

    Mr. Mauser, your son was not killed, your son was brutally murdered by the maniac, who taught that was bigger then the life. After 21 years, it is so sad , I hope that Daniel is in the better place, and that he found the peace. Unfortunately, there are still maniacs all over the world, that think how the murder is the easier and more simple solution than talk. I send you and your family all the support and love. Sir, I'm so sorry for your loss and the accompanying heartbreak. I can't imagine how terrible it is to lose a son this way.
    I don't find any fault with Dr. Ben Carson regarding these comments, though. His intentions are pure: fighting against these awful gunmen and defending the right to own a gun for that type of self defense. It's the media that worked hard to try to distort his intentions, misrepresenting an insensitivity and callousness that wasn't there. In actuality, it's quite clear to me that Ben Carson really does care about defending innocent human life.

      +Ashleigh Overbey People in warzones are AT war... people on civilian streets occasionally pull guns on people, and when someone has a gun, they have a greater ability to stop them.. not start a war. Totally different situation.
      The question I pose to you is, if you were in a warzone, would you feel safer without a gun or with a gun you were trained to handle and had fired thousands of rounds through at a shooting range while practicing and preparing for that unexpected but looming war?

    Mr. Mauser, may God be with you and your family members on this anniversary of Daniels last day of life. It's so hard to believe it's been 17 years now as it seems it just happened yesterday. I have never went to Columbine nor have I been a person involved in any type of shootings or other terrible situations that you and your family had to endure that day in 1999. Daniel may be gone but he will never be forgotten ever. He was so brave and that bravery was given by you Mr. Mauser. I have to say that I truly admire you sir for your actions. Daniel no longer has a voice from him but he has one thru you. Please don't give up on Daniel ever! He needs you to stand tall and proud of him and try and focus on making gun control better for all of us. He is not only counting on you, but he is counting on all of us and we need to try and do what we can to fix this so it will quit happening!!
    You know, back in the 80's when I was in high school, we had show and tell along with an essay with a biography of an item of outdoors sports. I had a gun a 44 caliber that I took to school for the presentation. I was not allowed to bring any usable ammo but I was able to walk thru the doors with a gun back then because we didn't have these type of shootings back then. It's so very sad that things have changed so dramatically and changed the way we now need to look at our weapons. Remember the days that you wasn't cool if you had a pick up truck with the gun rack in the back window, and on those racks were loaded shotguns that High School kids were allowed to have on School property. Sadly those trusting days are gone forever and we have a generation now that does nothing about gun safety. I hope you understand what I mean by what I am saying. It's late right now and my mind isn't totally clear, but I stand with you about gun safety and we needing tougher regulations to obtain them. I don't like firearms. I do not own any nor do I ever plan on owning any either. If you ever get involved with gun legislations in the future please count me in. I will stand with you and I even have a few that agree with what our Country needs.
    Mr. Mauser, about a month ago we had a school shooting about 3 miles from my home. I am sure you heard about it as it made International Media CNN and Fox Networks. It was near where I live in Trenton Ohio. It was Madison Jr and Sr High School located in West Middletown Ohio. I have several cousins that attend there and one cousin was good friends with the shooter. We was very lucky that he didn't kill anyone but his intent was clearly to kill a couple of students. He may be 14 but I think he should be tried as an adult as it was attempted murder. I just recently found out that he is going to be tried as a juvenile which means basically he is getting slapped on the wrists. These School shootings are and need to be taken very serious. When I found out about this shooting I couldn't believe it. I always thought that it would never happen here. But you know what? IT DID!! Yes we really need to do something about this. The family the boy came from was not a middle or upper class family. It has been said that his family has drugs and alcohol problems but the boy was a very bright and intelligent boy that had access to a weapon and he wanted to use it on a couple of people he didn't like and even a teacher. Thank God that my 3 cousins were not hurt. 2 of my cousins was in the jr. side of the building when it happened. My other cousin who was a friend to the shooter didn't go to school that day since he had a dentist appointment and he was so relieved when he got the news because he sat with him at the same lunch table on normal days but wasn't there that day. Austin could have killed my cousin Logan or severely injure him.
    God Bless you Mr. Mauser and I am sure Daniel is looking down from Heaven and smiling to know how much his father and family and friends loved him so much!! We need to carry on because we know that's what Daniel would want all of us to do. We all need to pray and try to make changes to the gun control situation and we all need to get this non sense stopped!!! I hope one day I will get to meet you and shake your hand. If you ever make it to the Cincinnati Ohio area, please let me know! I would really enjoy having lunch or dinner with you and maybe, just maybe we can find some ways to get these guns away from the wrong hands. Thank you for reading and also thank you for your videos. I hope you do try and make videos here and there. Have a blessed week......

    Tom, what gun laws do you think would have stopped any of these shootings. Dr Carson only said what HE would do sir and in fact, that is what did happen. the gunman was stopped by someone rushing him. The same with the plane thst went down in PA on 9/11 that saved many lives in all probability. Use some common sense sir. When you have one shooter or two holding guns on 20, it would be wise to overcome him/them before they kill all 20. I am so sorry for your loss and I know you still grieve but Dr Carson is right.

    • @rubyleuty9417

      +duckymagic57 They did that in Australia and the day it was pointed out there were 2 people killed with illegal guns. In Switzerland the government issues a gun to every household that qualifies under their guidelines and they have the lowest deaths by guns than any other country. How would you explain that? Chicago has the highest death rate by guns than any other city with as many shootings as 40 in 1 month yet they have the most stringent gun control laws in the country. Gun control does not work only for the law abiding citizens.

Of course all the victims and their families deserve our sympathies but I’m just touched by your sons’ story and through the videos you’ve shared with us, he seemed like such a great kid who loved to learn and who was a polite and caring individual ( who nonchalantly says he’s going “to France”-great video btw!). To me, he was brave.

    Thanks to endless drills, we all learned to secure the door first, then cut the lights and stay out of sight and quiet and away from windows. I don't want to say anything negative about the librarian in this instance; for goodness sakes, she was just shot and in shock and did the very best she could...I would never second guess her as I wasn't there. I started teaching after the tragedy, and we did have some intruder drills that were more scary than others, but they were just drills...I do have a tendency to get between fighters, no matter the size, but that's because I grew up with two older brothers. No one should have to be ready to deal with such a horror. No one.

    @ 3:34 "Their intent is not to take away your gun..." Unfortunately that is the result. Of course results don't really matter to liberals, it's all about the "good" intentions behind their ideas. It amazes me, and other people who use common sense, that Ben Carson is being attacked for pointing out the most logical course of action for people in that type of situation. The only critique I would have for Ben Carson is the victims did not realize they were in that situation until it was too late. But to say that he is being insensitive or mean by pointing it out is just ludicrous. And this is why liberals lose this debate to conservatives - they come at this from an emotional viewpoint void of logic.

    • @loisfriel2880
      @loisfriel2880 9 років тому +4

      +rolling126r I take great offense at being labeled a liberal because I want gun control. I have been a Republican for most of my life so certainly would not fall under your definition of liberal.This is a non partisan issue that the NRA is trying to make into a "them versus us" mentality. I thought Ben Carson said some very intelligent things in the debates but am shocked at his insensitivity with these remarks. I refuse to vote for anyone, Republican, Democrat on Independent, who refuses to look at the devastating effect that guns have had on this nation.

    • @rolling126r
      @rolling126r 9 років тому

      +Lois Friel Here is my non-apology apology - I'm sorry if you're sensibilities were hurt by you reading into what I stated. Of course, if you read my comment again you'll see that I did not give "my definition" of a liberal but that's neither here nor there. On the other hand, if I thought someone accused me of being a liberal I would be offended too. (Just for the record, being a Republican does not mean that one is not a liberal, just saying) So in short I did not accuse you, Lois Friel, of being a liberal. I will move on to your other statements.
      Non-partisan issue? I agree with that. It's a Constitutional issue. And the Constitution states that the 2nd Amendment "shall not be infringed." That's the law - like it or not. Now I already know your argument "we don't want to get rid of all guns. Just the really bad ones" and "we don't want bad people to have guns." Let's take that and apply it to the 1st Amendment. Let's just get rid of the bad speech. You know, statements that make people mad or upset, and criticizing of our government and stuff. And let's not let the bad people talk. That just doesn't sound too good does it? So who decides which guns are "bad" and which people should be able to have guns? Of course the all-knowing government should decide that. Oh wait, they have decided that. Criminals shouldn't have guns - but they do. Crazy people shouldn't have guns - but they do. Well, damn, that didn't work. See for people who are intent on breaking the law, there is nothing that is going to stop them. The only people you hinder are those that follow the law.
      If we want to fix the problem, REALLY fix the problem, then we have to stop being worried about hurting feelings. So in the spirit of being insensitive, one might make the argument that the majority of gun violence happens in the minority population. So let's start there. From now on, no minority can have access to guns. Would you be for that? I mean you have to be logically, unless the only gun violence that you're worried about happens in white areas...and that would be racist. You want to ban "assault rifles" (which really aren't assault rifles but whatever) when the overwhelming majority of gun violence is handguns. Does that make sense?? So the only real way of ensuring true freedom from gun violence is to get rid of guns completely. I have been in a few gun free zones before. Surprisingly, there were a lot of guns - in Mexico, in Iraq, in Washington DC, etc. And in each one of those areas the law-abiding people lived in fear for their lives. When I lived in Arlington, VA, it was common knowledge that you did not go to certain areas in DC at night (and rarely during daylight hours). But it was a gun free zone.
      But let's imagine that a miracle happened and the only people who had guns were the police and the military. That's a good thing right? Well, let's ask the people of China or North Korea or Iraqis who lived under Saddam. Of course, the liberal argument is "but that can't happen over here." Really? Why? Do they think we're so much more "civilized" that our gov't would never become tyrannical? That's some racist ass thinking. I don't trust any government who wants to take away my means of self-defense and I don't respect "useful idiots" who go along with those ideas.
      In conclusion, just remember when seconds matter the police are only minutes away.

      +rolling126r rolling is using his emotional attachment to his guns to try to argue against logic. It's clear he has no idea what logic even means. Logic dictates that if there were less guns there would be less gun violence. Logic also means you don't leave out the "well regulated" part of the 2nd amendment, but in your "emotional" response you just want to ignore what it actually says. Being a liberal in no way means anyone is trying to take away folks guns, it merely means a person has the ability to be smart where guns are concerned. I'm a liberal and have owned guns for over 50 years.
      Your definition of a liberal really has nothing to do with it since you clearly have these stupid ideas about us without any knowledge whatsoever about reality.
      It is you that is losing the argument, over 80% of the people want stronger background checks. The majority would like to see nut jobs like you without any sense or understanding of the problem probable shouldn't have any guns. You choose to believe nonsense over actual facts.
      Your posts are rambling nonsense void of any "logic", purely just your "emotional" reaction to something you clearly are brain dead about.

      +Mark Bjorke I wouldn't claim it has ever been a great place to live. The problem with Iraq is the same in every society that bans guns. Bad guys don't pay any attention to the law while good people do and therefore, bad guys get to run the area until someone steps up to stop them. But because the good people can't own a firearm they have to rely on their inept government to do it. The same thing in Mexico.

    Hey I remember that your last update was in November 2013. How is your family doing so far? It is hard to believe that kids born in 1999 are teenagers going to high school now! And they didn't know about Columbine until they were old enough to understand it. It is unfortunate that our big American society is too callous and uncaring to do anything about social ills and how to curb social ills that lead to violence and suffering. Will you update your site or create a blog with different viewpoints or are you still a gun control advocate?

    Approximately, 340 people have died by cows since columbine, in contrast 140 students at schools (including colleges). Just because you have turned your son into a poster boy of fear for every parents nightmare doesn't mean everyone else has to suffer just because you feel it's the right thing to do. What happened is a rare and tragic event, however, you want rights taken away from the law abiding citizens because of what two children did to your child? Yet, you are so reluctant to ever point your finger at the current President, media, American culture, school administration,law inforcement agencies(Which had proof of Eric's bomb making, yet, failed to follow through on the written affidavit, then held a secret meeting 4 days after the schooting to cover it up from everyone, particularly the parents, YOU) But still! you are only concerned about legal and lawful gun owners rights being infrigned upon by two "cowards" as you call them thus, letting them win in the end by having a nations people change their way of life because of the perpetual fear of it could happen again any minute to another school. It's sad and pathetic watching you Mr.Mauser trying to do something postive for such a tragic event but you have done just the opposite. I Refuse to let the acts of a few bad seeds take away any right especially a astronomical occurance such as columbine. Mr.Mauser you rather give the criminals the spotlight to change a nation's laws, to take away from it's people its lively hood and comfort. Mr. Mauser i refuse to live like a scared pussy and let a couple of punks win at the end of the day when there are more people dieing from slipping and falling in the shower. Perhaps we should have someone watch us everytime we shower Mr.Mauser? Also there would be no need for propane tanks and fireworks (used to extract gunpowder for pipe bombs) to be around either! Too dangerous they were used in the attack as well! Must ban them! Oh wait, soon with your logic everything is ban or supervised, damn, gotta wait for the local cow agency to send their worker out to my house so i can milk my cow. Or perhaps your son is the cash cow? You were paid 72,000 to go advocate for gun restritions(don't care if you would've been paid "if" you worked the fact is you didn't). To top it all off you have a book generating money through your dead sons name. You have two people you can thank while stuffing money in your pockets while rubbing elbows with the crooked politicians and that's the same two people you have an issue against.

    My deepest condolences for your loss, Mr. Mauser. Unfortunately, I think it's impossible to reason with someone who has no conscience, as I believe is the case with Carson. He seems willing to say anything without expressing the least bit of empathy for others, not to mention he seems to be willing to DO anything as well. Case in point, he directed the gunman he encountered in a fast food line to point his gun at an employee behind the counter. I wonder if that employee was a kid? Chances are, at a fast food counter, it could very well have been a student trying to make his or her way through college, or maybe a high-school kid earning some extra pocket money. My son did that for a while in high school and I'd like to think an adult would take steps to protect rather than sacrifice my child, given the same circumstances. I think even seeing a "body with bullet holes" would fail to move someone like Carson, even if it were his own child.

      A lack of empathy is a key trait of both a narcissist and a psychopath. I wonder if the doctor knows about those mental conditions. Seems to me that it would be pretty easy to line him up trait by trait to either one and we'd have a pretty good case for a diagnosis. The lack of empathy is a key feature in our culture. You hit the nail on the head, "dr" Carlson is certainly no exception.

    Never ever would I ever want to have teachers carrying arms. Never. Schools are for teachers and teaching and learning and growing...Guns don't help anyone learn. Past a demonstration of how hard it is to load a musket, I see no need. If we all had to rely on muskets, this carnage would never have happened. Mr. Mauser, stay strong. Your son was an amazing young man and he was doing what he could...in the way he saw to take cover was in keeping with what the librarian told them, and he may indeed have made a strategic move to either further protect himself and others, or possibly intended to attempt to disarm his shooter. But he died a hero. An innocent who was doing nothing wrong, minding his own business, when he was killed, and who had to be witness to such...he is a hero in my book, every kid killed that day is. Dylan and Eric only showed what can happen when people who are disturbed get their hands on weapons so easily. I only recently began to learn of the details of this case, and my aim is to help prevent such catastrophes in the future. Blessings to you and your family.

      +Ken Ritt Keep in mind the meaning of the word accident vs the word murder.
      One is an accident, one is intentional. Legally in many states, a young person can purchase a firearm from an individual they meet online, and the seller of said gun will likely in way be held accountable if he fails to check the persons licence to see if he/she is of age, and the gun is used in a crime, not even to mention they are not required to perform a background check to make sure the person isn't a criminal or a mental nut. Im pro-gun, but no requirement for background checks on private sales is illogical and irresponsible. Will it fix everything? Hell no, not even close - but its still something that will help and needs to be done. Would it of stopped Mark Manes from selling the tec9 that was used to murder numerous people at columbine? Perhaps, maybe not, but it is certainly a deterrent for someone who isn't interested in jail time. This guy, Tom mauser, "wasting his energy" to apply some logic to the topic of gun control, is the same person who played a huge role in passing the law that made Straw Purchases illegal - which is how the 2 shooters got their other 3 guns LEGALLY. I dont agree with everything he says, but if you cant appreciate his cause especially considering his circumstances.... then i dont know what to say to you. Its clear that he is still hurting from the loss of his son, and rightfully so, he is simply trying to keep others from having to live the nightmare he had to go through. It is vastly easier to acquire a gun(which have 3 purposes no matter what you believe - to shoot a target in a sporting fashion, to collect either due to sentimental or financial investment reasons, or to kill) than a drivers license (which has numerous uses, with the most important obviously being the ability to TRAVEL DISTANCES, kind of important dont you think?) in most states, does that make SERIOUSLY make any sense in a civilized world? I own 4 firearms as well as a car, and i say hell no

    Magnificent response, Mr Mauser. I cannot begin to imagine how you must feel when hearing comments like Carsons. At the very least Carson has demonstrated that he simply does not have the judgement to be president. He isn't really demonstrating the sort of good judgement that would permit someone to bear arms either.
    We, in the UK, are very confused and startled by the fact that the gun lobby seem to have so much power in the US. We rarely see an armed policeman, armed criminals are rare, armed citizens are rare. Of course there IS violence as there will always be unwise, callous , mentally ill or angry individuals. HOWEVER, Not surprisingly the consequences of violence are much MUCH less severe (looking at comparative statistics). In decades involved in criminal law, including prosecuting (everything from murders to robberies, rapes, grevious bodily harm, fraud etcetera) I rarely came across cases involving the use of guns. (Less than five cases...none for murder). I certainly saw single deaths (by knife or blows) and injuries. Not the repeat and ever increasing multiple deaths and irrecoverable injuries that seem so endemic in the US.
    This profound desire to let access to arms be so unrestricted in the US just seems rather weird andseeks unattractive to us. Pretty obvious: Give people more arms and you will get more shootings. Why would anyone sensible, intelligent and sane want that?
    Why do you think that there not a national referendum on a) the issue of increased gun controls and b) a series of questions as to which controls would be acceptable? It seems essential given so many of your politicians seem to be so hand in glove with the gun lobby, yet so many citizens see things differently.
    I see the crafter of your constitution believed that it could be changed by popular vote. Why not have one? Of course ...lobbying, financing would have to be transparent, rules set about limits, and media would have to meet specific requirements to ensure balance. Also thought would have to be given to an amnesty and buying back programme such as they had in Australia. How would you tackle it?

      +Fionna O Sorry, Fionna, but what you suggest for America simply won't happen. The gun culture is just too ingrained here. Those of us fighting for stronger gun laws are just working "on the edges," dealing with minor changes and restrictions, because here's too much fear of doing more. That's not to say I'm hopeless. But it will take a tremendous sea change that would have to come from young people (as they did with the gay marriage issue here) or shootings even more horrific than at Sandy Hook

    I have read several comment and replied to many of them. So I am just as guilty as the rest. Tom Mauser is saying that he feels it is sick for a Presidential candidate to say that "He has never seen a man with bullet holes more disturbing than losing the right to own a firearm." (I know that quote is not word for word but that is the meaning of the quote.) We take videos such as this and turn them into a means to promote their own political agendas. And yes I got caught up in it. We can argue about it all we want in comments, but honestly nobody is talking about a solution. So my question to all of you is, in the cases of Columbine and the recent shooting at the Oregon Community College, what is the solution? By allowing concealed weapons for people to defend themselves, that would mean high school students and college students to start carrying weapons. I personally feel that is beyond crazy. Can someone please provide me with an argument with a way to handle such cases as Columbine and the Oregon shootings. As of yet, not one comment has provided one.

    Tom Mauser what do you think about the issue of mental health, and the fact that so many spree shooters are on SSRI antidepressants? Is this more or less or equal of a problem to guns? I have to say I personally think it is more of the problem than guns are.

Other than that, I just go by the news stories telling us how they get their weapons and it's never legal.

    Hey Tom, to quote the NRA in response to your comment @ 1:33 following the March for the Lives rally in Washington: "We stand by our guns". In other words, my gun rights is what matters above all else's and I don't care how far I go in pushing the double standard in doing so, so I'm not going to have any compassion or empathy for those killed or severely affected by gun violence. So hooray for me, and the hell with you and everybody else. PIERS MORGAN REALLY DID GET IT RIGHT ABOUT THE NUMBER OF HOMICIDE DEATHS HERE IN THE US VERSUS THE 38 PER YEAR IN ENGLAND, ABSOLUTELY NO QUESTION. And yet everyone wonders why society in the US is so screwed up, the NRA has WAY TOO MUCH CLOUT in Washington >:-(

    Living in Germany, I never understood America´s obsession with owning guns. I truly believe that if we´d have the same gun laws here as you have in America, we wouldve had just as many shootings as in America. There is no reason for civillians owning guns. Guns are made to kill and only for that, for no other reasons. Here only military, police, hunters and people with special certifications are allowed to own guns, and even those guns are listed and the storage undergoes a very tight law and procedure.So if you want to purchase a gun here, you need to follow an amount of law procedures, get certificates which are expensive. The risk of teenagers purchasing guns even illegally is very low, cause the opportunities are less

      Yes, and that's why Germany has only a fraction of our gun deaths--and yet is still a free democracy.

      +Kenneth Hill I've been a public figure for 16 years. My words are out there for all to see. Tell me if you can see anywhere where I've said I favor "complete civilian disarmament." Of course, some people are prone to make up anything, even if it's a lie, aren't they?

    • @187Kdogg
      @187Kdogg 9 років тому

      I don't know but..what I hear from the anti gun clubs is "more back ground checks" "stronger gun laws"......why doesn't ANYONE of them ever say...look at what's going on in society..what's causing these mass shootings why are they so rampant and apart of our everyday lives?..look what's on TV..16 and pregnant, the kardashians, men dressing up like women being called heros..look at this sick society we live in..no wonder why people are becoming insane..why didn't this stuff hardly happen in the 1950s?..people act like you were only able to buy guns only 20 years ago...nope guns have been sold for more than 60 years and you didn't have these kinda shootings...maybe something wrong with our society?

    • @safemauser
      @safemauser  9 років тому +1

      +Kenneth Hill I took the time to respond to ur original question, asking if u could see anywhere where I've said I favor "complete civilian disarmament." U didn't show the respect of a response. U went in another direction. U wanna go back to the 50s? That time when blacks were told by conservatives where they could sit and that they couldn't vote? That time when gays and wives were regularly beat up but nobody said anything? Yeah, right. U speak of what's going on in society--but most of those things are happening in Canada, in Japan, in France, in Australia. But THEY don't have this shameful level of gun violence. They have strong gun laws. But u don't want to address that, do you? You'd rather just kill the messenger.

    • @187Kdogg
      @187Kdogg 9 років тому +1

      I said I didn't know what you want..now that you're comparing us to countries with no guns so it sounds like you want civilian disarmament..wish it could be as easy as ban it and it all stops...but again here in America when you ban something, things get worse..we've seen it with drugs, the prohibition, the North Hollywood Shootout during the AWB we saw two guys with fully automatic AK47s with armor piercing rounds HIGHLY HIGHLY ILLEGAL in the state of California...didn't stop it from happening, everybody knows its against the law to build a truck bomb and blow up a building still didn't stop it...The Southern democrats were the racist ones, the democrats were the slave owners.....who freed the Slaves? Lincoln..he was a republican and the union..but besides all that..so you just want stronger gun laws and more back ground checks?

    Mr. Mauser, I would first and most importantly like to say how sorry I am that your innocent son Daniel was murdered in Columbine on 4/20/99. I cannot imagine the pain you must've felt when that last bus never came. It breaks my heart, frankely. What I would also like to say is thank you. Thank you for taking a stand against the right wing NRA agenda that is crippling this country of ours. We experience a mass shooting every week or so it seems, and it's not going to get any better until we decide as human beings to do something about

      (continued) it. I applaud your making this video as the more people who are exposed to Dr. Carsons cold heart the better. What he said completely stunned me. Yes, I am a lifelong Democrat and I will be voting for Bernie in 2016. I still however did not expect even from someone in the Republican party to make such a disgusting statement. It was absolutely appalling. We must elect a Democrat who's willing to take on the NRA who I believe has literally gotten away with murder. Again, my condolences to you. Best of luck in your future endeavors sir.

    I cried my eyes out just now. Hearing your son's story. It is just heartbreaking. You are right, you can't question, you can't play the "what if" game. You can't ever know.
    I truly hope with all my heart "Dr." Ben Carlson watches this video. I hope he hears your words and takes them in. His words about HUMAN BEINGS are disgraceful. I would not trust someone with that mentality to care for me - whether in the Oval Office or a doctor's one.
    Again, I am very sorry for your loss. My hope for you is that you feel the comfort of your child as he watches you continue to fight for him by educating all of us.

    I think the word “appalling” is a stretch to describe those remarks, but they’re definitely a little insensitive and very impractical.
    You can talk up a good game about how you would’ve handled the situation, but the fact is you really don’t know what you are going to do unless you’re actually faced with it. Would I have tried to cower in the corner? Would I have tried to fight back? I don’t know what I would’ve done, because I’ve never faced that situation.
