    What torch to get for jewelry soldering?? If you started with silversmithing and are looking for a hand torch, I hope this video will be helpful! These are my four torches that I've been using. I wanted to share their advantages, what I use them for and give you an idea which torch might be worth getting. There are many jeweler's torches available out there and I'm sure there are other brands worth recommending. These are the ones I had a chance to use, but if you think there's another one people should know about, then please share it in the comments! :) It will be very helpful. Thanks so much for tuning in and I hope you enjoy this video :) Basia x

    I have the orca torch for a 14 oz propane can. Since it has the air holes no need for an oxygen tank. But I would love to work with an acetylene torch set up.

    I am most interested in the oxygen and gas torch, I hope you will make a video on it when you start using it. I use a no name torch with the bigger can of gas (looks like a spray paint can) that attaches with a twist. The gas in mine lasts much longer than the butane torches and it lasts me about a week. But I really want to get the dual one next.

    Hello Basia, I've been taking a goldsmithing course for 2 years and I still haven't decided which torch to buy initially, I use the Orca in classes, the tabletop one, but I would like to have one at home to practice on, in doubt between the Dremel and the Orca Another question would be to give an average of how long the gas lasts, from what I've seen they are very practical and safe, right??? I initially want to buy a portable blowtorch, so that I can only invest in my dream Orca in the future!!! Kisses, your video is incredible!!! 😘💪🏻👏🏻🌟

    Last week I was watching an older video where you mentioned that sanding with the flex shaft made you a bit nervous, at least initially. Tomorrow I am about to get my very first butane torch and THAT is scary to me. Any safety tips for using your very first? Thank you, Basia!!

      I recently started working with a butane torch in my mini home studio, and I know how you feel! The first few times turning it on can be a bit scary, but after that it will start to feel much more comfortable to work with. Also for safety I would recommend getting at least a few firebricks for a fireproof surface.(if you live in America you can find them at Home Depot) and I would recommend having a fire extinguisher nearby just in case. Hope you find this helpful!😊

    I purchased a Dremel. I am having problems melting my solder. I don’t know if it’s cause I’m not heating up my silver enough if I don’t have a charcoal block if I have heating bricks instead of ceramic base and I’m using stain glass flux.

    I bought the Drmel type. But I didn´t get the silver to even get soft. I used the extender even. How do I heat it up to maximum heat - or how do I sold silver in the best way?
    Needs to fix a spoon broke in two halfes, and fill a small hole in another item.

    • @freigeist5161
      @freigeist5161 10 місяців тому

      Buy the Orca torch,there who have from small to a huge flame,larger than she shows in the video. What you are telling your torch dont deliver enough heat. I had the same kind of torch and you can only use it for very small jumper rings,for bigger work you really need the Orca torch.

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  11 місяців тому

      They are strong enough for some smaller amounts, but not enough if you wish to melt a lot. Check out my videos where I show how I use mine to melt and recycle silver:
