We do not know his age exactly but think he is under forty years old. Jamie is closer to two hundred pounds but has not stopped growing yet. That is not a decision I can help you make, however, I can tell you a few facts for you to consider. Females are always going to be smaller and lighter than males. MOST are not aggressive. Males are a more impressive looking specimen for the most part. For me, I have always loved the sulcata species. I have much respect for them and have never had a reason not to love them. BUT I have to tell you that we do have some that have gone through people's walls. Both boy and girl I am speaking of. Males are more destructive by far. If you have twenty acres with a secure perimeter and it is a dream then perhaps a male is a good thought. Especially if you have a passion to see a large tortoise live in your lifetime. Females will cost more if you want a more mature tortoise. You can often get a male for free if you post a photo of your enclosure and housing as there are many out there. It is true that they can live for over one hundred years. I do not know exactly how long but I can tell you that we have never had a sulcata die here. Where other species have grave issues far easier. Both boy and girl can live the same amount. Males probably have less vet bills over the lifespan and will cost less to purchase. Females can become egg-bound, lessening the life span, and potentially breaking your heart. Makes hump things for no reason and ram people more often. Thanks for asking!!! Did I help????
