That Nets trade was 1000x worse than the clippers trade. The clippers were surprisingly competitive in the playoffs the season before the trades, and they added Kawhi, who had just won a finals MVP in Toronto, and PG, who was straight up an MVP candidate in OKC. Meanwhile the nets got to washed up FORMER stars

The Clippers basically traded for a prime 3-year window at winning a title with these guys. They choked in the bubble, had a nice playoff run the second year until Kawhi tore his ACL, and that ACL injury ended the 3rd year before it started. They could have perhaps traded PG and Kawhi after that, the problem is you end up with a bunch of late 1sts from some other team which doesn't really solve their problem of not controlling their own picks. C'est La Vie...
Plus if the clippers played out East they’d be a lock to make the playoffs even without Kawhi IMO. I have zero respect for the leastern conference….Celts were fortunate they played the Mavs but do they get another cake walk to the finals? Either way Nets trade way worst…

The Kawhi news was not really new news since it was known he wouldn't play opening night. Until he starts practicing, no one knows how his knee will respond and when he'll be able to scrimmage and then play in real games. I think it's still 50/50 whether Kawhi is ultimately able to play say 50 games this year, if he does they still have a chance of keeping their pick IMO.
Unlike that, Pontiac banshee you put in the video, kawahi is more like a b-52, you can have him working for a few hours only to have to have to rest about 10-20 times the amount of hours for "maintenance".

I think a lot of these "stupid trades" are for ticket sales. Team owners very much care about selling tickets, sometimes even more than they care about winning a ring. Signing or trading for popular players sells tickets and merch.

I'm thankful I never chose to be a Clipper fan. They've been exciting to watch in recent years I'll admit, but when it comes to the playoffs they just can't win a title either because of injuries, blown series leads or both. They're in a big market too in a desirable city for allstar free agents, but even that isn't enough to help them end their curse of never winning a title.
Fans who started watching the NBA in 2016 know Kawai as the guy that came out of nowhere to single-handedly shut down the dynasty and give Toronto their first chip, before going to the dumbest team in the NBA and immediately being injured ever since

I think letting Paul George go was the right decision. It would’ve been nice if they could get a little something for him, but I doubt that whatever they would’ve gotten would’ve really made a difference this season. George is old old, old, and the clippers have enough of that on their team.
