I have heard this hymn many times but do prefer it being sung faster as it sounds more joyful at a faster speed.The harmonies as usual from this choir are very good.

I'm an organist and I play this four times faster. Wowsers. You have ruined the hymn. It should be triumphant, not a dirge. Shame, because the harmonies are excellent.
The tempo is about 60 bpm. The piano solos are by famous arranger Joel Raney who prescribes a tempo of 64 bpm. This piece is traditionally used as an altar call. "Triumphant" isn't appropriate. Read the text.
@@diapason8326 as a piano/organ teacher, the slower tempo fits the words beautifully! It’s important to look at the words. As an organist in our church, songs regarding prayer should be mostly played a little slower!,
