As an electrician, this was a great video to see. Three-way switching is always confusing to explain to someone, but you guys did a great job! It's neat to see what is inside of something that I work with every day!
Why I didn't saw this channle in 2020 lockdown. I would have learned a lot till now. I think finally I am going to decide my favt channel to this and 3B1B. I once dreamt about channle dedicated to these topics. It's just dream come true.
This was...far beyond what I expected. You could have gotten away with much, much less of an effort without any pushback. Instead, we are left with this... An absolutely beautiful, visually pleasing, simple yet concise explanations which work hand in hand with the animations to bring us an intuitive, entry-level walk-through of the light engineering I'm honestly awe-struck. I can confidently say your videos are easily one of the best videos on youtube I have yet had the privilege to enjoy here on UA-cam. (and I watch nothing but science and physics docs on UA-cam etc) What an absolutely superb masterpiece, what an incredibly engaging tool that undoubtedly will benefit thousands and thousands of inquisitive minds. Thank you so much for this labor of love. It truly shows your passion for your field, and hoo boy what a treat the whole video was. It is insanely rare that animations, live explanations, and facts all come together so brilliant and organically organized in such a way that the end product comes together to create something much, much greater than each part on it's own. What an honor. it would be better if you make a video on how CPU/LED screen manufactured.
The day after this video dropped, but a day before I came across it, I literally opened up a couple 3-way switch boxes to trace my home’s internal wiring for an upcoming project. I’m glad to say that I figured out how they work (the hot wires in different positions was the clue) and this vid confirmed it. Thanks!
Great video! As a electrician i try to show the guys how it work and i always need to draw it and some don’t get it. This shows how they work and they have a better understanding to how to use it! Thank you! I would like to request a video for receptacles and GFCI receptacles if possible, i would like to show the guys how this devices work in regards to the inside of them.
Literally the only video i could find on what the mechanism inside an intermediate/4way switch looks like. Even has animation to show how toggling the switch changes the path. Saved.
I absolutely love videos like these. I've always wanted to know how stuff like this works, and the video explains it perfectly. Not sure why, but I've loved to just figure out how most stuff around me works, and this channel does just that, perfectly!
I did a dumb little giggle when the animation was talking about both switches being up or down.... Guess you could say a light really flipped on in my head (; Truly, The fact that I have used these every day but didn't understand how it worked.... until now I recommend you start looking into public building and city planning stuff, for example did you know that fire hydrants have a cap color to denote how many GPM they are??? they're not all the same! makes you look at the world differently
Love the hanging fixtures over the stairs. I think you mentioned pointing out inaccuracies was welcomed so...the ground wire on the switch wraps the wrong way. It should be clockwise so when tightened the wire stays in contact with the screw. That screw is always green. Commercial grade switches have a clamp! No wrapping.
I do not appreciate the valuable information that these videos give me, nor the simple and wonderful style only, but this effort in the animation and the minute details as well, I know how long it takes and I am grateful to those in charge of this channel for making the membership free and relying on ads only. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to every man or woman who contributed to this channel ♥♥♥♥♥
Thank you. I have 3 switches in my house in setup like this. I always wondered how it worked when the switches could turn the light on in different positions
In the U.K. they are known s 2-Way switching. Any more than 2 switches, ie, along a corridor, is known as 2-way and intermediate switching. (All switches have two states.) 3-way switching is more commonly known as "Manual-Off-Auto" switches. They would be used to switch between timeclocks and manual operations.
Your illustration showed electrons moving in a linear motion along the wire when the device is switched on, however, what you were illustrating were alternating currents and so the electrons should have been shown oscillating back and forth.
Thank you for making such a great story for me to watch. I have gained new knowledge from your channel. I want to see how the laser works and the generation of different colors of light (red, green, blue, yellow) I'm at.TH
@@ncolyer Fair enough - take an XOR logic gate, connect each of the switches (can be two way switches) to one of the inputs of the gate (the other contact of the switches is connected to ground, each input is also connected to the gate's power supply through a pullup resistor) and the output of the gate to a relay (basically another switch :-)). Relay and logic gate IC also need a suitable power supply. So, basically the mechanical switch construction is less complex, probably more reliable, and it doesn't use any power when the light is off, but otherwise - yes, it would work.
Hello there BE, may I suggest the next video to be about GPS tracking device, specifically speaking about the components that forms a GPS tracker (e.g. GPS Antennas, GPS receivers, the GSM module and how do they all work together?) For GPS receivers there are many different brands like Ublox and MTK which are all different prices, but I can't seem to understand what are the differences between them. Would be helpful if there is an actual video about it! Thank you :)
Please can you make a video on how measurement tools work (voltmeter , ampere meter , .... or multimeter) by the way thanks for your videos you are a brilliant teacher !
Hi, With due respect i want to know that which software do you use for such animations. I'm going to start a new channel for Mathematics animation and suggest me which software is best for Mathematics Animation. I'll be grateful to you!
please please please make a video on how LEDs inside a LED TV work and and how they are made so small. specially the RGB part. like you explained about pixels.
I have gotten a good shock from sticking things inside outlets as a kid, I also spat in them before, got my lip nice and swollen from the high voltage damaging the tissue inside my lips. A real fun one was when I used a wet power tool and couldn't let go of it, so I started spinning my arm until the tool was forced out of my arm by the momentum. I have had my fair share of high voltage. It could probably have killed me if it had a diffrent path to ground then it did. funny enough, An electric fence actually hurt a lot more than getting zapped by 120 volts, mainly because I was holding a galvanized steel fence with one hand and touched the fence with the other, running the voltage across my heart. I felt rather messed up for a few minutes. In any case I wouldn't recommend it
*One request, please look at it?:* Video about how actually data is stored in sd card because at the end of the day it is just some assembled pieces of metal how do they store data? If explanation is similar to anomaly that there are something like black and white square which act as 1&0 then how is it so fast that a smartphone makes a change in it so easily

they just made a single video on the entire desktop PC, and multiple videos on several components.

What about doing a video of drones, about how they work. It can be a great and interesting video.
Would an XOR logic gate work for a 3 way switch too?
The circuit shown in essence IS a mechanical XOR gate.
@@nkronert yeah but i mean a non-mechanical one

Question, considering how close together the touchbars are, how do we make sure it doesn't cause an arc?
They are voltage rated, and likewise, higher voltage switches like 50kv have a different design.
also need higher load to make arc
I wish these videos would had subtitles which were translated properly to German. Any chance we can get that?
