This is what got me into poetry. I remember sitting on a porch in single degree weather until 5am listening to buddy. I went inside to bed once I reached in the cooler for another beer and realized the ice water was warm, compared to the ambient temperature. I love Buddy. I hope you've checked out his other stuff, or been to a show?

I saw him perform this in Atlanta. The whole show felt like you were a part of something so amazing that no one else was aware of. One of the absolute best shows I've ever seen. I took my girlfriend at the time. We had just started dating. We're married now. Crazy it was that long ago.

In 2022, I fell in the deepest love of my life. It didn’t work out, but this poem is almost a perfect allegory for that relationship. The details and the choppiness and incoherence. A glimpse at the madness of someone’s turmoil-ridden inner thoughts.
      But forgiveness.
      Forgiveness.
That message is the one I missed and needed. That’s why I come back here time and time again.
This poem and this specific recitation of the poem is so powerful and meaningful to me.

I’m pretty sure Buddy Wakefield is a Buddha who realized enlightenment and choose to come back to our realm of hungry ghosts. He must’ve chosen the name Buddy Wakefield because it’s too perfect. This poem changed everything for me. I went from a drug addict on the edge of death to hosting my own poetry events and working a good job. I found this poem when I was in rehab. Everything about this poem spoke to the struggle of codependency and self realization. Truly a Masterpiece. Spoken word poetry saves lives.

it's the music... if you think about it. sure the prose is endearing af and all that... but imagine listening to the recital without the heart wrenching drone of the the solo violin and the words, though wonderful... become a lot drier. Less emotive. It's the music. It's ALWAYS THE MUSIC that gets one to tears

One of the best examples of a sincere man. Such a huge influence in my life, especially as someone who grew up with no father and struggled with finding God and learning how to become a genuine man. His words helped me see spirituality, manhood, and life in a different way. Thank you Buddy for speaking with an honesty and curiosity that I could only hope to gain an ounce of in my life.

The second time he says "If I was created in God's image..." is, I think, my favorite part of this poem simply because of all the EMOTION you can in his face when he says it all. You can see it in his eyes, hear it in his voice, and just feel it oozing off his whole body.
