- Anis Mojgani, part of the Junkyard Ghost Revival tour with Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz, Derrick Brown and Buddy Wakefield performs his spoken word poem "Milos" at Brown University October 2008
I was 16 when I first heard this poem being performed live in a auditorium at brown University,i am 27 now and I come back to hear it every so often to remember a time that seems a life time ago.
I was 15, sitting on a bench that we called Colin, smoking, drinking, with friends I thought were bigger than anything. I am now 26. I too listen to remember those times. What a wonderful way to remember.
I could be wrong, but I always interpreted the last lines ("Sarah, we are apples, our love is an arrow" and on-wards) to refer to the idea of shooting an apple off someone's head with an arrow. He's saying that being in love means making yourself vulnerable, and he has the faith for her to shoot straight.
Ten years later, this is even more relevant. One of my all time favorites, coming true. I will hold this in my heart forever. EDIT May 2023. This never gets old. It changes with my time line, but I love it as much as the first time I heard it.
11 years later and it’s still one of my favorites. #2020
"unearth everything from before, bury eachother inside the other" has to be one of my favourite lines of all time. thank you
2019 going strong
This is so freaking beautiful. I don't even know how many times I've listened to it, and I say 'listen to it' because I've downloaded the audio to listen to off my iphone. Believe me, laying in bed at night with all the lights off with only this to listen to is truly beautiful.
I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this poem.
2023 and this guy still rocks my socks
He inspires me on so many levels. His words are like blessings we yearn to get a hold of. Thank you for being here, Anis.
If words were people I would be in deep and hopeless love with Anis's words.
Beautiful, inspiring, intense. Will never stop listening to this.
i don't think this could get any more beautiful.
this is the first poem i ever heard that made me cry
simply the most beautiful thing I've ever heard
This is absolutely perfect.
One of my favorite poems of all time. Simply beautiful.
I've watched this countless times and will watch it countless more. Thank you Anis.

This poem is absolutely amazing. Anis, you have allowed me to travel back to a rather happy time in my life with this poem... i love it... it makes you reminisce about your first true love... lol it makes me smile inside... Thanks you Anis...
He brings emotions into words in a way that I can't even fathom. His pacing, his demeanor, it's beauty.
This fills me with a calm sense of passion. Thank you Anis, for everything.
Still listening in 2020. Had the pleasure of meeting him at 2011 Nats
My eyes teared up while listening to this.
@mudanat Milos is the Island that the Venus comes from, and now she resides in The Louvre. Anis told me that this poem is just a different kind of love poem than he had ever written.
I can't stop listening. This is such an inspiration...
So perfect in every way. I could listen to him all night.
You're such an inspiration. Thank you, thank you so much.
Heard this in high school first... a long time ago.
Thank you Anis! This will always be in my heart ❤
Anis Mojgani will forever be my favorite poet
The music just fits so completely and perfectly it's beyond amazing.
okay I’ve been on such an intense internet rabbit hole because I listened to this poem years ago and couldn’t quite remember which poem it was but I remembered loving it and feeling so transformed by Anis. Today, I was watching episode 3 of Lovecraft Country and I heard the instrumental which I now know is titled Windows by The Albumn Leaf. The song was used in the opening sequence of the third episode while a character cries in a moment that is just as aching and transformational. I honestly don’t know how long I’ve been searching trying to connect the poem to the song and then to the show and finally I found it so I guess I just wanted to find someone else who felt the music deeply too. Wow.
@@existentialmel Wow flashback to this comment haha. I loved the songs use in Lovecraft Country too, it really made for such a impactful scene which is saying something in such an intense show. I'm glad to know someone else appreciated it too. I revisit this video a lot even now, but thanks for dragging me in for another check in. :)
"Be a river with me..."
beautiful.
Im hoping to one day publish poetry as great as this < 3
revolutionary lovers running through paris . . . this blew my mind
@hikatieloll Well, yes and no. Most of the obscure lines in the opening section are art references, which makes sense as he has his MFA. Things like 'feed grapes to the ants' is a reference to Dali, because he would paint Ants to symbolize death and decay. So here Anis is saying that we should encourage the breakdown of what is previously held in love, art, and society.
@pikaachooo Its "Window" by The Album Leaf
the best line: in a valley destined to sink further- be a river with me.
Background song is Window by The Album Leaf
Every time I listen to this, I wanna cry for no reason!!!
One of the most relevant people alive
i can listen to this hours on end.
amazinggg
Your words are an inspiring space
"sarah we are apples our love is an arrow " I emailed Anis about the lyrics to this for a paper I was writing. These are from his email back. Although the Sarah he mentions has done a TEDtalk...
2020. Wow. Time goes by as fuck.
@mudanat my guess would be because of the Venus de Milo in the Louvre which he mentions there is also the line about "an armless mother praying for her arms to return" hope that helps
SO. PERFECT.
I can't stop listening/watching this. It brings tears to my eyes. Is there somewhere were I can find the poem written or a recording of this that I can download for my ipod?
i love his voice (:
no one can paint dreams as well as he can.
Thank you
I'm sure he's saying 'love us an arrow'. It refers back to his TEDtalk speech.
he definitely says "Our love is an arrow"....
Beautiful :)
What an ending.
WOW!!!!
Album Leaf Window.
@ROa2, it's too bad that you have misunderstood the poem.
can I download this somewhere?
What is the song in the background? Sigor Ros?
@dearleanneee Its definitely arrow. Watch the other video of this poem.

@pantsonparade

Sorry for being stupid :)
2022
Wait, what? Can you clarify what you mean by Sarah has done a TEDtalk? I'm intrigued.
does anyone know the name of the music being played?

sara is the luckiest girl in the world
I'm guessing Sarah Kay?
agreed!
@pantsonparade
Never mind,found it on wikipedia
@freaklingg check the your wall
@Astonish70 i could not have said it better myself..
Sarah Kay: If I should have a daughter. Search it up, it's well worth the time.
@freaklingg
Why did he named the poem Milos?
@armadillo360 lmao what?
wait no beard? lol still a badass by all standards
I suppose this is another one of those things that's too avant-garde for 6 other people and myself. Hipsters are so odd these days...
what the fuck
seriously what was that supposed to be? you can hardly even rhyme. Also yes this poem doesn't rhyme, not all poems have to.
What is the song does anyone know?
