People these days just use words without knowing what it means. 'Discipline' is training someone to do something and punishing them if they disobey. The same with 'success', people think a successful person is a person with money, but the truth is that anyone who achieves any goal they set for themselves is successful. Success isn't about money, it's about accomplishing a goal.

Every definition, to be precise, needs to be contextually defined. Yes, we love to use words flippantly without contextualising them, and then confusion and misinterpretation sets in....
Alas, this is not a permanent part of the English (or any) language. Tis' but a flaw, we can circumvent by providing clear examples, stories, specicifity and concreteness to when we describe a word or concept with many potential interactions.....
Doing so can be a tool to guide our audiences into them receiving the meaning of our message exactly as we intended.

I love this! For a long time, I viewed the internet as a source of entertainment or distraction. Most people do their banking and pay bills with it. They maintain their lives with various applications. But mostly? Entertainment. Curiosities. Of late, I've been very careful to monitor what I ingest mentally and emotionally on here. I'm getting more picky about who I will give my time to and what I will allow into my head. Just like in real life, I want to spend time with people who are going the same direction I am. And you are one of those people. I have read a couple of your books and will read more. Mostly because, you keep me on track. You remind me where we're going. What it takes to get there. And don't give up, that there are people running alongside me. They just happen to be on a screen and not here. But they're real. Thank you Robert. Thanks for being one of my buddies. God bless.

I like the concept of Mastery that Mr. Greene often talks about and this video reminds me of that approach when it comes to fulfilling our life's task. For instance, if you are practicing discipline and being consistent. You will eventually take pride in the process and not be deterred by the mundane tasks that you have to do to become more competent in whatever skill or endeavor you are working towards.
Delayed gratification is a gift to us and should not be considered a negative thing at all. It actually makes it that much sweeter when you win.
Thank for sharing the message sir.

@@RobertGreeneOfficial I've read 48 Laws of Power... but I have not read 'Mastery' yet. That will be the next one that I pick up.
I was introduced to the concept from watching your videos where you break down Mastery in depth and also during some podcast interviews I've heard you on. That approach of focusing on building up skills and trusting the process over time has resonated with me profoundly. It's one of my favorite topics that you talk about because I think it is needed in today's culture more than ever. Especially when there are so many people who are inpatient and talk about quick tips and how to 'GET RESULTS FAST' type of concepts which quite frankly seem dull and empty the majority of the time. Anytime that I see you talking about Mastery.. my ears perk up and I soak up the lessons.
Thank you so much sharing this content, it is very valuable to anyone whose attempting to become mentally adept and conscious of their purpose here in this life.
      Thoughtfully,

    Key Points: 🔑:
💡 Discipline must have an element of fun - consistency in your work must be rewarded.
🧠 The human brain works on the principle of pleasure and pain - we're drawn to what's pleasurable and away from what's painful.
😫 If discipline and consistency are only associated with pain and boredom, then it will be difficult to maintain these habits in the long term.
🎁 The key is to find direct and pleasurable rewards in disciplined efforts.
👶 As a child, you may have learned a sport, a musical instrument or a game like chess. It may have been boring at first, but as you persevered, you eventually experienced the pleasure of mastery and progress.
📚 For example, if you write every day to write a book, it may be boring at first, but imagine the sense of accomplishment after several months.
🎣 You can become addicted to these rewards, to the point where immediate pleasures no longer have the same effect on you.
🎯 You need to think as you try to discipline yourself about what the reward will be. Visualize and feel the sense of having acquired a skill, of having started a business, of having felt pride.
🚧 If the work is too boring and tedious, it will be difficult to get past this point and stay disciplined.
🥇 In short, the key to maintaining discipline is to find pleasure in the process and anticipate the reward for your efforts.

How does gamification of daily disciplines work? This is the first time I hear about it

    • @jack-fm3lb
      @jack-fm3lb Рік тому +8

@@chronos5457 id assume it entails creating things to reward "leveling up", thinking of yourself as a character with a skill tree. For me, games were my main hobby in high school, and to transition into actually meaningful work and real discipline, it helps me a lot to think of everything like life was a video game. One other benefit that can come from this is the "if x, then y" nature of a game. When your thinking is like this, you can take out a lot of the emotional clouding of your judgement. Because, when you're playing a game you don't get insecure or anxious. You just try and try, until you beat the level. Anyway, that's how I understand gamifying your life.

      @nextgenmillen Рік тому +2

@@chronos5457 Honestly a bit tough to describe via text, but I will try my best. Wish I could attach a screenshot lol.
It was a project I started about 5 years ago and revisited/improved sportatically over the years when I had a boost of motivation. But then about 8 weeks ago, I got serious and decided to try and develop sustained habits. This was also around the time I started content creating for my channel (290 videos created since March 19 2023... 101 of which are scheduled with the last scheduled for June 27).
      Exciting stuff... But anyways.
I created a google sheet that focused on 5 areas of my life that I wanted to improve on or create positive habits in. My current "Areas" are: Health, Work (Job), Finance, NextGenMillen (Passion & Legacy [Long-Term]), and Personal Development.
Within each of these 5 categories or areas, I'd have Daily and Weekly Disciplines/Tasks that I would assign points to. The daily would be simple-ish things I could do consistently each day (scheduled into daily routine) and the weekly would be things I would spend time doing a few days a week or whenever I had idle time.
For the daily tasks/disciplines I would monitor and award points throughout the day. (This also helped a lot with the tasks/disciplines I forgot to schedule in my calendar).
For the weekly tasks/disciplines, I would keep a running tally (for daily effort) and add the points to my Sunday totals.
      For example:
A few of my Daily Health category disciples/tasks are: [Pushups to failure (variety/day) AND (Ab exercise) within 1 hour of waking], [Cold Shower (min 2min) - Visualize success] and [No Candy or Chocolate or Treats or sugary beverages].
One of my Weekly NextGenMillen disciples is: [Schedule Cross Post from YT to LinkedIn + Twitter]
My current number of daily & weekly tasks/disciplines are:
      Health- [Daily =8 | Weekly =0]
      Work- [Daily =4 | Weekly =3]
      Finance- [Daily =0 | Weekly =6]
      NextGenMillen- [Daily =3 | Weekly =7]
      Personal Development- [Daily =7 | Weekly =0]
I adjust the daily and weekly tasks each Sunday in relation to my priorities and schedule.
I also set up a graph/chart 3 weeks ago so I can gauge my progress.
It's piles of fun doing it by yourself to challenge what's really possible. I mean, who doesn't love getting a new high score? :)
But the stakes are higher when you are doing it with someone in the sense of a friendly competition. Social accountability works wonders in the world of productivity and discipline.
Once I hit 1k followers on TikTok I want to create a shareable version of the sheet and create a growth oriented community so we can push each other to become better. But only at 658 as of now. The reason for the 1k is so that I can add a link in my bio to the sheet and so that I can do Live Streams to walk those interested, through the process. :)
PS. [To be honest, I had opened this comment up in my notification icon, and most of this written out in more detail. But I accidentally clicked out of the notification window and had to start over so I apologize if there's a lack in clarity. Didn't think I'd be spending 53 mins a comment response... BUT if it helps, it's worth it.]

@@jack-fm3lb Yes! The anxiety and judgement dissipates when you treat your disciplines like beating a level! I noticed this in the first few weeks of restarting my project! And the graph over the weeks can be your "XP" increasing as you get better at staying consistent with completing the tasks! :)

I believe it's more about self-discipline and motivating yourself to reach some greater goal. Some small sacrifice you make, a nuisance, something you're not naturally comfortable with, but there's a greater reward that will eventually compensate for your effort. But let's think of living in dictatorship, gulag, prison etc. You might not even be alive without discipline, mostly imposed by your tyrants (willingly carried out and accomplished by your own goose steps).

Thanks Robert. Honestly thought discipline was David Goggins & Jocko Willink - just using raw drive and grit to push past the odds. While that may help for a period, it's ultimately unsustainable....
Something needs to keep our fires lit, and the fire don't light itself. So integrating rewards with discipline and finding activities (in my case, for my own business) is critical me feeling great, sustaining my work and my customers will feel all the good feelings I feel when I produce it....
Quite to the contrary of disciplining through no rewards permanently.

¿Por qué a los jóvenes nos cuesta tanto desarrollar disciplina?

I am a teenager I don't have discipline in my life, I think probably because of the masssive amounts of time I spend on social media. This thing is dangerous. I imagine getting rid of this and being a disciplined person one day.

I have always taken heed whenever one of God's Chosen people of Israel(Ashkenazi Jews at least) have spoken. They are undeniably brilliant.

@LMNM800 Simply put, these are the "white" Jewish peoples. Regarding the other groups you have mentioned, I do not know enough to comment upon. I stated Ashkenazi because they "appear" to be the smartest, as well as the most successful people here in the US at least. But I could honestly say the same thing regarding Shia' Muslims, and this is simply because of the brain gain we have here in the US. The Islamic Revolution has been a boon to the US, economically speaking!

There are two types of people
    (i) Born poor - sacrifice - disciplined -controled life - success - died
    (ii)born silver spoon - enjoy - enjoy - died
My question is why this two difference. If live is only one time some are so lucky. Some poor fellows don't have chance to dream they even don't know what is life ,a labour born in poor family he is work more than 10 hours can't even get enough wage. But some people born in billions they actually don't know how poors life is. What you get from discipline i mean life is only one time. Pushing yourself to what ? Why ? . If you love some thing no need yo push.
