Your brain is like a muscle, if you don’t exercise it then it will wither and fade. What you read manifests itself into new living brain cells. How you read determines how long the new cells hold the data you collected. A college education is brain building. The ideas you learn help you to make better informed decisions for life. Why that is important is because the highest paying jobs are jobs where making decisions is the job.. People hate making decisions, especially if their mind is weak, and ill informed. Read what the rich read, and you will grow rich.
I absolutely love this line. “Reading is simply mental masturbation. It makes you feel productive but if you don’t implement what you learned then you’ve simply wasted your time being busy and not effective” hits so deep and makes me realize a lot of people go to college and do this
Actually I don’t quite agree with this point of view. I somehow feel that all the reading need a little time to get through in order to change your mindset, like how individual grapes need time to get processed and fermented to become good wine.
Here are the 12 books listed: Book 1- Meditations by Marcus Aurelius Book 2- The Almanac of Naval Ravikant Book 3- Antifragile by Nasim Nicolas Talib Book 4- Influence by Robert Caldini Book 5- Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman Book 6- The One Thing by Gary Keller Book 7- The Most Important Thing by Howard Marks Book 8- Fooled by Randomness by Nasim Nicolas Talib Book 9- The Great Mental Models by Farnam Street Book 10- The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle Book 11- Show Your Work by Austin Cleon Book 12- Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
I was about to make a similar comment 🙂 And interesting to see that Nasim Nicolas Talib took 2 spots on the list. Looking forward to exploring some of these books for the first time, and revisiting the others. Thank you Anthony 👍
Man's search for meaning by Viktor Frankl is by far the best book ever written for a male human being who aspires to do anything with his life. It basically makes all your excuses for not doing something completely invalid and silly. I read it when I was lost in life and without a purpose (age 26) of how to make money working for myself, live freely and have time for myself, not only for bosses and bills, and 3-4 years later I was a millionaire, solving all problems and obstacles along the way with ease.
Great intro on this video, I have recently made reading a habit for the first time in my life. Reading non fiction books to pick up new ideas to guide me in life. I realize that after now reading a few of them, actually stating multiple key points is very hard. So I will have to try and find a good way to write or reflect on them, reread and hope it sticks better! I recently started a blog on the Swedish concept of lagom, might combine it with your book recommendation "Show your work" and publicly post my book reflections! Take care Anthony!
Great video sir. I re-read these books : She Comes First (Sex), The Checklist Manifesto (Reducing Errors), How To Be A Gentleman (Manners & Etiquettes), Let's Talk Money (Personal Finance), The Law of Success (Success Rules), Miracle Morning (Morning Routine), Courage Is Calling (Overcoming Fear), Eat That Frog (Productivity), Atomic Habits (Habits), The Almanack of Naval (Life Formulas), Be A Sales Superstar (Sales), Influence (Persuasion), Meditations (Philosophy), Medical Medium (Health), Women Are From Venus, Men Are From Mars (Gender Differences), Modals (Dating), How To Win Friends (Dealing With People), Why We Sleep (Sleep), Sapiens (History), The 5 Second Rule (Taking Action), The Laws of Human Nature (Understanding Human Behavior), Steal Like An Artist (Copy Successful People), 7 Secrets of Wealth and Happiness (Goal Setting), Zero To One (Business), The One Thing (Focus).
I definately check some of these out. I find it is the reflection and integration steps the most challenging. Determining what is really valuable, and then consistently applying it can be challenging in a world with constant demands. Some of my favourite life improvement books are much simpler, like David Allen's "Getting Things done". Just remembering what the priorities are in life, and taking action on what needs to be done next, is so important to making progress.
My top 3 takeaways to implement more! (nice video by the way) 1:"Understanding only becomes useful when we adjust our behaviors and actions accordingly." 2:Use writing as a form of reflection on what I read, and connecting the dots of foresight 3:Quality over quantity approach, taking the best books, reintegrating their lessons and reflecting deeper upon them
This is a great list. After my high school best friend of 32 years died at the end of last year, I made a decision to spend even more time reading than I have so far. Today, I finished my 70th book for the year. Re-reading books is one of the most important habits of reading deeply. You asked for 3 lessons from your video and here they are: • On the strength of your video, there's a couple of books I'm going to give a second chance: Almanack and Power of Now. • I'm going to put a boot up my backside and FINALLY get around to reading Influence. • The book by Austin Kleon sounds like just the tonic I need to give myself permission to release my entrepreneurial art into the world. Thanks for the great content and keep it coming.
I just want to say, as a young African American woman of 34. I am happy I found your channel. I started my internet marketing research journey six years ago, but I lacked the proper habits, consistency, commitment, and finances to actually get started. I've been reading alot of books, but most have just been surface content on marketing, lean startup, and disruptive innovation, I haven't read any books on true entrepreneurial development. I'm happy we live in a time were I can have multiple Shopify brands, mobile and web apps where I don't have to show my face. It's a man's game. I'm going to go through your channel and really listen to your content. I hope one day I'll be able to change the narrative on what it means to be a black female billionaire. Thank you for sharing your work. Your content so far has been better than sitting in a college class room.
Reading is not just enough. take the action! Put your newfound knowledge to use. I read for a long time but action made my life change in no time (generally and mostly financially) That's my two cents on this
Your videos are very useful. Thank you for taking the time to make them. I think your channel is the only one I am ofthen stopping, going back and taking notes.
Confession of Leo Tolstoy is for me on the same level as Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. A spiritual eyeopener. Many thanks for the great videos you make, they are very inspiring!
@@AnthonyVicino "Meditations" is truly one of the greatest books ever written. Another one is "The Discourses of Epictetus", written at about the same time as Meditations was being put together by the wisest of the Roman Emperors. These two literally changed my life, radically. I had read a lot and certainly learnt much before these two books, but the wisdom in them is just priceless, oye-openning in ways that I never before thought about. Thank you so much for your recomendations, I will certainly buy soon the ones I have not already read. Great videos, and please, keep up the great work you do.
War and Peace by Tolstoy is incredible as well-more than anything, reading this herculean book taught me patience, how if you stick long enough to something you put your mind to, you can not only gain a deeper understanding of things, but also be inspired to change the world. I highly recommend it.
I have started reading lately and i would definitely recommend the following books: Meditation: Marcus Aurelius (same as you) Atomic Habites: James Clear The Way Of The Superior Man: David Deida ...and many more, but I truly think these 3 books are mind-bending and can heavily influence your life. I am currently reading Meditations for the 1st time while simultaneously completing daily writing in "The Daily Stoic" journal (wih book too). While Ive read a couple books you have suggested, the overall message I take forward is to continue focusing on the thinhs I can control - my thoughts, behaviors, and actions. I look forward to tackling each book!
Great list - all classics for sure. Most of these are ones I also re-read regularly. The other area I tend to have a few books on is “learning” books - books on how to leverage learning. Which, given I’m a teacher makes sense, but learning is an important life skill 😊
Couldn't agree more. Learning how to learn is one of the highest ROI skills you can acquire because it positively influences everything other skill you try to acquire in life.
Thanks for sharing your list, and for caring enough to reply to every comment. I am an avid reader and life-long learner. It's my best billionaire habit. I love my books, but it never occurred to me to [re]read my favorite books every year. Here are a few that would make the list for me: The Art of Living by Epictetus, Quantum Success by Sandra Anne Taylor, and Make it Big by Frank McKinney. For daily reading, I never miss Bill Bonner (for 25 years now). Two more (can't resist): The Ultimate Sales Machine by Chet Holmes and 80/20 Sales and Marketing by Perry Marshall. Time to get hyper focused.
I've read several of these books. For me, the thoughts and guidance in Antifragile and Man's Search for Meaning, I've integrated into my life. Atomic Habits and books by Esther Hicks have done the same as have many others. That's key: Find things in books that you include in your day-to-day life to make it more effective. Any of the books on the list could potentially do that.
@@AnthonyVicino Absolutely, I read it once and listened to the audio book once. I plan to reread it next year. Over the last couple years I’ve started to read more. But I’ve gotten into a mindset of reading as many books as I can, but now I’ve come to the realization that reading and rereading quality books is more beneficial than reading many different books.
Dude, you got yourself a subscriber. I was on the 11th book about to comment: you left out the most important book you could read, and.... It was number 12. Great list. I'm gonna read them all.
When the pandemic of COVID-19 hit the world books were things that actually opened my window to knowledge. I didn't have time to read during the school year (or I thought I didn't), but this time was one of the most valuable in my life. Since that time I have been reading every day and this list of books will be the next step toward a better understanding of myself and surrounding world
Yes, the "Now" is where everything happens...unless the now is overridden by memory (past) and/or fear (future). My personal chalenge is to focus so exclusively on the now that my subconscious default programs change to my "now" paradigm.
@@wendym2544 - It is scientifically backed by studies that show how the brain changes in response to major lifestyle/thought inputs. Time magazine had a cover story...many others give confirmation on 'neural plasticity'. It gave me hope to know that this is indeed possible...and I have been at this for some time now. I can tell you that my progress has been considerable, yet incomplete. This is the toughest challenge I have faced. Every bit of positive change is worth the struggle.
@wendym2544 - I have come to understand and value every word of your comment to me. FYI, my dysfunctions were so all encompassing that overwhelm during progress has hampered the progress. I have, like you, made great and lasting changes to my once 'off course' mindset. Let's keep at this, find grace and joy in our progress, and constantly remind ourselves that we have value, we can do this...we deserve success! Best.
Meditations is like my manuscript to me I've read Power of Now before, but it's surely something I need to read again. A book I've enjoyed reading yearly over the past two decades is 'Candide' by Voltaire. Short story, but always reminds me to stay grounded and to "keep watering my garden". Reading this book helped me in understanding a few lessons in life. Love it! Great list. I'm ooking forward to reading all of the others.
Nice list, I will surely take my time to read these! Meditations is like a Bible for me. I am usually carrying it in my bag. It helped me a lot to fix my mentality.🙏
Influence by Cialdini is a 100% must read. I have read this book 4 times at least. You will never see a store sale or advertisement the same way again. My wife has also read it and when we have some kind of meeting or conference to influence we always reference this book. Meditations and the Power of Now are opposite and the same books. One is the discipline of mental strength, the other is being in the moment, in a more peaceful sense of letting go, managing ego. The goal is the same to be mentally strong but in different ways.
You know what you'll need to try reading Golden strategies the path to prosperity i think that it's a pretty good book for the price and it's really covering lots and lots of fields about money and generally being better yourself😊
I've known a few CEOs. To want to emulate that type is a serious character flaw. They rarely get to that position by being men of competence and character. They're usually just extremely good at slinging bs, kicking down, and kissing up.
I’m really enthralled by Hemingway’s novels right now for whatever reason. His writing is just so simple and brisk and it clicks with me extremely well. I should read more informative books but classic novels. Re what I’ve been enjoying lately.
@@AnthonyVicino Really really is. It’s minimalist writing, just enough to get the point across. I’m currently reading A Farwell to Arms and it’s fantastic,
He's right and I'll tell you how to test it. Read these books and keep a journal. Read the entries a year later. If after reading your old journal you believe the author doesn't know anything, but is on the right track, congrats, you've grown.
Thank you for your inspiring list. For me, the following books would definitely belong on such a list: - Seneca (as a Stoic like Marcus Aurelius): "Moral Letters to Lucilius" and "On the Happy Life" - Epictetus (Stoic): Discourses - Montaigne: "Essays" If I had to choose I would even prefer Seneca and Epictetus to Marcus Aurelius.
Dude, that was a highly valuable watch. Personally, at the stage that I'm currently in in my life, 'The One Thing' was the one that I 'needed' to know about the most. Wrt. V. Frankl's one, I've always carried the mantra of 'Life doesn't happen to me, Life HAPPENS for me' which I learned from Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi 2 years ago when I had enrolled in a thing called 'Own Your Future'. Thank you for your content. All the best!
Super inspired thank you I just ordered three of them and I will take my time and go through them and apply them one at a time and then reread wash and repeat
Thank you for the vid. The introduction is very meaningful and practical to me. Books 4, 5, and 12 I have read. They are the greatest books. The author for book 3 and 8 has a number of other books. The other books are amazing. I am going to read these 2 as well. Thank you.
Meditations and The Power of Now to start with. I had wanted to read Meditations a long time ago but completely forgot about it. And like you, I thought Eckhart Tolle's book was a bit woo-woo but since you recommend it I'll give it a go.
i read over 300 books the last year but get what your saying about reading better, Finishing the Dragon ball series didn't really get me anywhere but I can at least say to people i read over 300 books in a year now.
Thank you for this list, a good reminder of certain books and some new ideas as well. Now, I am now developing my own business. It would be terrific if you (or your followers) recommend your top pick on starting/sustaining/developing business. Thank you!
1. Ihave read Mediations. Will re-read. 2. I’ll develop my own 12 books list. 3. Ok, I will read Tolle. It seemed too pop culture. I’ll give it a go. Thanks.
Thank you for the introduction of the books and some that I not had on any list so far for myself. Refreshing to see other books than the ones on the usual copycat lists.
Very helpful. I listened to this video multiple times. An (audio) book that I have listened to dozens of times and has impacted how I see and try to operate in the world is The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge Thanks again for this video. 🔥

For daily reading, I never miss Bill Bonner (for 25 years now). Two more (can't resist): The Ultimate Sales Machine by Chet Holmes and 80/20 Sales and Marketing by Perry Marshall. Time to get hyper focused.
Heck yeah, there are some killer books in here! Love it!
Agreed. Integrating what you read into your life is key.
"Letting Go" by David R. Hawkins. Wisdom on every page.
I'll have to check that out.
great recommendation
Liked for Victor Frankl’s “Mans search for Meaning”. Great book, amazing concept of Finding Meaning in suffering.
Such an amazing book. Hard to overstate just how important this book is.
Ha, winning!
Thinking fast and slow is so dense. It takes me a year to read it every year 😂
Lol, lot of truth in this.
this man is so right with the reading steps. I hope many people can apply these steps in their reading habit. It works really really awesome!!!
Thanks!
When the pandemic of COVID-19 hit the world books were things that actually opened my window to knowledge. I didn't have time to read during the school year (or I thought I didn't), but this time was one of the most valuable in my life. Since that time I have been reading every day and this list of books will be the next step toward a better understanding of myself and surrounding world
Im psyched to hear you've fallen in love with reading!
Yes, the "Now" is where everything happens...unless the now is overridden by memory (past) and/or fear (future). My personal chalenge is to focus so exclusively on the now that my subconscious default programs change to my "now" paradigm.
It's a tough reprograming, but well worth the struggle.
I don't know if this is possible but I think it's worth trying. Please let me know where you're at with this in the future. Great idea. Go for it!
Best.
@@stevec404 Your comment just pulled me back to focusing on the now. TY!
Have read several of these and will be checking out a couple more you have recommended. Thank you.
Hope you enjoy it!
Meditations is like my manuscript to me
I've read Power of Now before, but it's surely something I need to read again.
Nice! Sounds like we're cut from a very similar cloth.
Great picks... added to my wishlist for 2024
Nice!
Nice list, I will surely take my time to read these! Meditations is like a Bible for me. I am usually carrying it in my bag. It helped me a lot to fix my mentality.🙏
That's powerful. Great book.
Thank you for the recommendation. I shouldve followed you sooner since ive been following captain sinbad channel for years. Great start for 2024
Hells yeah! Psyched to have you here.
That you included "The Power of Now" makes me pay closer attention to the rest of your choices.
I re-read all of his books in sequence.
Such a good book
Great video and great content on your channel. What's your #1 book?
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
Thank you , I’ve been reading consistently for little over a year now and is now one of my favorite hobbies!
Awesome! I love to hear that.
Such a powerful book
You know what you'll need to try reading Golden strategies the path to prosperity i think that it's a pretty good book for the price and it's really covering lots and lots of fields about money and generally being better yourself😊
I've known a few CEOs. To want to emulate that type is a serious character flaw. They rarely get to that position by being men of competence and character. They're usually just extremely good at slinging bs, kicking down, and kissing up.
Your words say far more about you than it does them, my friend.
My number one life changing book only available on Audible: The Ultimate Jim Rohn Library (Jim Rohn, Nightingale-Conant edition). Life changing
Ooh, I've never checked that one out, but I love me some Jim Rohn.
@@AnthonyVicino I listen to it 4 times a year, minimum. Jim is my mentor... + this audio book is super well structured.
I went to a week long Jim Rohn seminar in the 70s. I wish I still had the tapes. A life changing week I will never forget
I’m really enthralled by Hemingway’s novels right now for whatever reason. His writing is just so simple and brisk and it clicks with me extremely well. I should read more informative books but classic novels. Re what I’ve been enjoying lately.
HIs writing is SO good
@@AnthonyVicino Really really is.
Boom. Huge fan of journaling
Thank you for your inspiring list.
For me, the following books would definitely belong on such a list:
- Seneca (as a Stoic like Marcus Aurelius): "Moral Letters to Lucilius" and "On the Happy Life"
- Epictetus (Stoic): Discourses
- Montaigne: "Essays"
If I had to choose I would even prefer Seneca and Epictetus to Marcus Aurelius.
Both Seneca and Epictetus are solid options.
I find Marcus' writing to be a bit more poetic and mentally sticky.
Totally true. I just reread Calvin and Hobbes and I am getting so much more after step 3.
Lol
Dude, that was a highly valuable watch. Personally, at the stage that I'm currently in in my life, 'The One Thing' was the one that I 'needed' to know about the most. Wrt. V. Frankl's one, I've always carried the mantra of 'Life doesn't happen to me, Life HAPPENS for me' which I learned from Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi 2 years ago when I had enrolled in a thing called 'Own Your Future'. Thank you for your content.
All the best!
So damn psyched to hear that!
Super inspired thank you I just ordered three of them and I will take my time and go through them and apply them one at a time and then reread wash and repeat
Awesome!
Thank you. Do you recommend reading in the order presented or another order?
You can read them in any order!
Thank you, Anthony. Found some interesting books in your list that I'll definitely absorb.
Psyched to hear that!
Read, yes. TAKE ACTION, even more important.
THE most important :)
Anthony, thanks for your support.
Anytime!
Great vid. one comment might be missing and that goes for all books: 'Knowing and not doing, is the same as not knowing"... Cheers 😉
Good point!
"The One Thing" is an excellent book. I've written down the names of the other books and am planning how to read at least a few of them.
Nce! I hope they bring you value.
Great recommendations brother, thank you. Cheers from Sydney
My pleasure! Psyched you enjoyed!
Thank you for sharing your list with your thoughts - truly valuable.
My pleasure!
Today was the first time I’ve come across your channel. Needed this today! Thanks.
So psyched to hear that!
What a great list. Thank you for these summaries. Subscribing.
Psyched to have you here.
Thank you for the vid. The introduction is very meaningful and practical to me. Books 4, 5, and 12 I have read. They are the greatest books. The author for book 3 and 8 has a number of other books. The other books are amazing. I am going to read these 2 as well. Thank you.
I dig it! Glad you enjoyed.
This video is just fantastic, thanks for this! 👊
Glad you liked it!
Great recommendations, thank you. So glad I found your channel today. Subscribed 🎉🎉
Thanks for subbing!
The list is impressive. The 48 modern rules of money is also a gem
Hm... not sure i've seen that one. Who wrot it?
Thanks Anthony, I needed to watch this video! I'm going to get hold of 2-3 of those books asap. You are so easy to listen to.
Thank you! Which books are you thinking of snagging?
Meditations and The Power of Now to start with.
I had wanted to read Meditations a long time ago but completely forgot about it. And like you, I thought Eckhart Tolle's book was a bit woo-woo but since you recommend it I'll give it a go.
@@userxpf9ti full disclosure: tolle is very woowoo. Brace yourself. But it's not necessarily a bad woowoo. :)
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, excellent recommendations, thanks so much!!
Glad you like them!
i read over 300 books the last year but get what your saying about reading better, Finishing the Dragon ball series didn't really get me anywhere but I can at least say to people i read over 300 books in a year now.
What was your favorite book>
Thank you for this list, a good reminder of certain books and some new ideas as well. Now, I am now developing my own business. It would be terrific if you (or your followers) recommend your top pick on starting/sustaining/developing business. Thank you!
Hm... a couple books off the top of my head:
1. Traction
2. Story Brand
@@AnthonyVicino Thank you for your swift response. My list only grows :-)
Have read several of these and will be checking out a couple more you have recommended. Thank you.
Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
1. Ihave read Mediations. Will re-read. 2. I’ll develop my own 12 books list. 3. Ok, I will read Tolle. It seemed too pop culture. I’ll give it a go. Thanks.
Love it!
Thanks Anthony for this Nice and useful video!
Glad it was helpful!
Read, Reflect, Integrate, Repeat
This is the way
Seems like a good list. Might have to check a few out.
You should!
This amazing, the intro to this video is so important.
I'm super impressed. Very high quality books. I've read most of these books in the last 2 years multiple times.
Boom! Love hearing that.
You should read Seeking Wisdom by Peter Bevellin! Phenomenal book. @@AnthonyVicino
Thank you for the introduction of the books and some that I not had on any list so far for myself. Refreshing to see other books than the ones on the usual copycat lists.
You are so welcome!
Very helpful. I listened to this video multiple times.
An (audio) book that I have listened to dozens of times and has impacted how I see and try to operate in the world is
The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge
Thanks again for this video. 🔥
Wonderful! Glad you enjoye!
You,'re a very smart guy, Anthony. I appreciate you and your advice.
I really appreciate that. Thank you!
Thanks for the video!
You bet!
Anthony, man, love your videos, keep up the work bro! and thank you!
Glad you like them!
Thank you for sharing this list of books, I love your videos! Your content is really valuable to me, it makes me think and analyze things. Out of all the different people on personal development that I follow you’re definitely one of my favorite ones. Thank you
I'm glad you enjoyed!

@@Dee-- thank you so much!
There are actually 3 volumes of the Great Mental Models. Shane also put out a new book as well named Clear Thinking. You might also like Super Thinking.
Oh interesting. I've read the first two, but didnt know Shane had released a third.
I have Clear Thinking sitting on the shelf, but haven't gotten to it yet. Is it good?
Super Thinking looks cool. Never heard of that one. WIll have to check it out.
Great recommendations. The only thing that didn't feel good was displaying the question mark on the video instead of revealing the book straight away.
Just trying to build intrigue to keep people watching a bit longer. :)
@@AnthonyVicino I understand that. But from my experience as a viewer, having watched tons of book recommendations it feels better, when you first reveal the book, then you talk about the book and elaborate on that.
I'm just sharing my experience. Nevertheless your channel is awesome 😎, you're awesome 😎 and I love your content!
I believe in triggering positive emotions though:)
I love it when you find “ that book “ but then the pain to find the next one….
Truth
Very good content, dynamic and captivating approach. I think that only the music volume exceeded -8dB in some places.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
Thank you again, Anthony!
No, thank you!
Very persuasive guy. The studying worked
Glad you enjoyed!
It is one thing to read a lot of books. It is quite another to take the time to apply the lessons in the book and making them habits!!!!!!!
100%
Hey I really enjoyed this video.
Glad you enjoyed it
liked for Taleb and Kahneman. I've given away several copies of Taleb's books through the years, and Randomness is one of my favourite books :)
Nice! I should probably give away some copies of Taleb. I love his stuff so damn much.
Man's Search for Meaning. one of my faves!
So damn good
Great list. Read half, love Taleb. Will try the rest. Thank you.
Thank you! Psyched you enjoyed.
I get the feeling that Influence is one of Anthony's key game play books. That is the one I am currently reading.
One of my favorite books of all-time.
I genuinely appreciate you sharing the methods and resources that brought you success. I'm at a point in my life where it really resonates with me, and I'm starting to visualize it as my own reality. @@AnthonyVicino
