I use the DAW mode a lot for automation. I just leave the channels on the touch setting. So I'm listening to the mix and adjust automation on the fly just by touching the appropriate fader It's great. The result: my mixes have a lot more volume automation and less compression.
I just got my StudioLive III 32SX and I love DAW-mode! It is such a nice feeling to have the physical faders, buttons and knobs. My first experience in studios was in the analogue world, so this mixer is like combining the nostaligic throwback to the analogue boards, but with the awsome technological possibilities with the digital workflow.
I love daw mode! It's great mixing down with faders. I still control plugins with the mouse, cause it's faster but writing automation with faders is much better!
i use a cerwin and vega (super quality sound) but i want to go digital and stuff with the sweepable eq's and performance effects built inside to perform with into my daw before i edit it all. at the moment i run into a kaos pad quad to get glitchy but feel i suffer a bit in quality when using the quad (aux) what would be the best mixer out there or is there even a mixer like it other than the 'roland mx' performance mixer (thats v noise i hear) ?
Is motorized faders and more channels the major difference between what you have there and presonus live 16.0.2?? I was on a budget and currently bought one. Also, it would be so awesome if you could tutor a bit on how to use 16.0.4 with your daw and mix with it hands on. Thanks as I hope for a response. God bless you
Hello. thanks for all your videos. they are super good .. I have a question. I'm a new user of Studio one and presonus studiolive 32s and I can not get my father of 32s to move when I run with them in my DAW. What should I do .. Regards jens.👍😊
I'm getting tired of switching through banks on my 8-channel Alesis MasterControl when mixing in Nuendo10, Mixbus6, and StudioOne2 (it does everything I need for mastering, so there's no reason to update). Anyway, spending thousands just to not have to switch between banks aint really worth it, so I'm looking for a console that I'll end up using for a lot more than just the motorized faders, transport, and panning. I was looking at the StudioLive64S (series 3), Midas32, and SSL Nucleus 2. After watching this, I think the Nucleus might be more what I'm looking for. If I spend $5k on something that's not meant to make the audio sound any better, I wanna experience a difference. SSL is saying you can go entire mixing sessions without touching your mouse once you open your DAW. Full plugin control, control up to 3 DAWs at a time, AND your inputs are actual SSL preamps (so there is actually a sonic advantage to using it).
Can you go over the set up of daw mode? I just got my 32 yesterday and I’ve done everything I could find. But when I click on DAW. It just goes blank. I’m connected through USB and my Xfinity router. I select studio one under software control and software control under transport controls. Still nothing happenes
Nothing beats stand alone analog units but this is the best of all worlds especially with their preamps i heard they are great. This is exactly what i need to streamline and reduce clutter. I like it and I'm still waiting to hear something to deter me from it but nothing yet
So i just bought a studiolive 32 used. Can't figure out how to use it to control my daw, ableton live 11. I know I can record with the desk and then just toss it all at ableton...but I was hoping to use the mixers fader etc to control ableton via midi. what am i missing?
nice vid.I only bough faderport 16 to show off to the clients and it makes my home studio look more professional otherwise i think faderport with one fader is relly nice, portable and space saver.
heyJoe! now that it's 2021 how you liking the Presonus board for audio quality, and are you wining any of the break out boxes... also are you planning on an update video for this board/
I know this is an old video but I just bought this console and have been watching a ton of great videos. One question, Is there documentation on what button does what when in DAW mode? Like I know TAP is to turn on and off the click
I love the studio live 16 series 3 mixer, but I never got daw mode to work usefully outside presonus software... my love of the hardware isn't enough to get me to use different software (though I tried presonus software and decided I needed logic and reaper for the things I like to do). I wish presonus would make the series 3 mixers in daw mode look like the emulation modes of the presonus faderport 16 for some wider software support (hui emulation, mackie control emulation), or maybe they've done this and I'm just behind on firmware updates?
at 7:28 you mention not being able to adjust the EQ frequencies, this is incorrect. you can adjust the frequencies with the phat channel control knobs on the console. There are 8 knobs there at the top of the phat channel control, every other knob there controls the frequency position.
Hi Joe, Thanks for your very good video's! My question; are you able (in DAW mode) to run more than 24 channels in the Studio One Software and "control" them via the StudioLiveIII mixer. For example 96 channels but then banking (4X) via the mixer ?
Question Joe! Does the Studio Live only do up to 48k and do you get a wider sound mixing in Studio Live vs mixing in Studio 1, also in my best Arnald 💪 voice stop playing with the little Girly Weights it will not help you.
Hi Joe How does the Presonus Studio Live 32 III compare to the Midas M32 - Looking at a purchase for a semi pro marketing / Advertising / music studio. Doing lots of voice over , youtube, social media, general production. We use Logic Pro X and are a 100% apple based organization in Canada. Anything you can advise or share would be helpfull. As well we are looking for a GRET DSP package to integrate into the system. Looked at the new Behringer Wing as well
Not so sure Joe this Studio One 24 /32 chanel Desk’s rattled my cage since seeing the connectivity with the Beringer Wing and the 10 inch touch screen...integrated.
Hola un saludo y abrazo desde Colombia , tengo la mixer 32 series no la he podido usar como daw es decir si la enlazo con ucnet y al orpimir daw el botón verde se conecta pero no sé cómo hacerla sonar es decir podrías indicarme como
Hey Joe, keep up with the DAW mode videos. I am interested in the StudioLive consoles as a future upgrade (using my trusty FS Project). Also, could you tie in how your buses could be routed to the console and print THAT mix back into Studio One. Wouldn't that be tasty!!!!!!
Hello,i would love to know, if there is any "factory" presets. There is a manual, where u can find tabs with gains and frequencies of vocals, kick, guitars etc. But when i choose them in presets, in EQ it is not set and eq is flat. Is it normal, so i have to set eq manually from the sheet?
It is also worth mentioning that if you already have a good interface and just want a bunch of faders, there is now the PreSonus FaderPort8 and FaderPort16, which give you 8 and 16 motorized faders respectively. While I would love to get a SLIII 24, I already have a RM32ai, and plan on getting the FP16 to add the ability to have hands on faders when mixing.
I use Studio One with a Faderport 8 and a Console 1. Best workflow I've ever used. I have found 8 channels is all I need as I only have 8 fingers so I can only move that many faders at once anyway.
hey joe love ur channel ....quick question i have the studolive 32 series 3 for recording and tracking in studio 1 daw mode....but i use it as my interface as well..my question is smtimes I just make beats on my maschine mk3 using native instruments...to build projects to record to....should i just use a side interface untill im ready to record ? or should i just keep the interface setup as i do know
I suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome and is searching, for a solution like this... The lack of plugin control was a bit disappointing, but I wonder how the new Studio One update, will turn out. As I understand it, S1 has now fully plugin mapping, for all midi controllers? Would be interesting, if you did a new video sometime on that subject... Great review btw. Much more constructive, just to see how you use the mixer, on a daily basis - Thank you. :-)
Hey! Thankx for that Video! Short question: hört can i use headphones in the DAW Mode? Is that possible? Was trying that i a store today and I was bot able to Hear anying on the phones while the console was in the daw Mode. Strange: the led meter was indicating something...
I just got a studio live 32 used, and it's seriously slowing me down. I followed the instructions twice, have everything installed, including ethernet cable from unit to back of iMac, it "sees" the studio live 32 as an available audio source in preferences, but cannot even control my track from it. I bought this to have hands on tactile use when recording--the sliders move when I move them onscreen with the mouse, but they won't allow me to do it via the board. Which is highly frustrating. I'm running Logic Pro X. Thinking about taking the unit back for a refund because it's not so easy to even set up.
Sorry you're frustrated. Since you're in Logic, you may have to set it up in a different mode to work with Logic vs Presonus. Sorry I don't know how to do that but Presonus Tech support will know.
Jono Rezzillo ... The original question (I’m pretty sure) would have been questioning the quality of the mic pre amps and Analogue to Digital conversion quality. For example, I have a UAD Apollo Quad. Love it, but it only has 4 x mic pre’s which is sometimes limiting, especially recording drums! I’d love to know how good this desk acts as a front end to get audio INTO my DAW.
yeah a quick google informed me. i'd love to be able to have my UAD plugs in there to build custom chains. im guessing the rotary dials work on the plugs in the usual way when inserted on a channel...these are the issues that are delaying my purchase of the 32 desk.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to find any digital desk that will use third party plugins. Especially UAD. Since they are DSP dependent. If you have a UAD interface, the closest you will get to controlling UA plugins in a mixer type situation is with the Softube Console 1. That can control the UAD Console application. Outside of that, is like you stated. You can only control the plugins in a DAW with a midi controller.
in non DAW mode yeah no desk i know of would. but inside of DAW mode i feel like Presonus are missing a trick here...hopefully in future updates they might open up the choices. UAD tactile control is a whole other conversation, i currently use Duet Display on ipad to have some sense of fingertip control instead of using a mouse all the time. i have no problems using the mouse along side the S32 desk. guess im buying it either way and crossing fingers for future updates haha
RCR, Studio one user on MBP here. I've hesitated to pull the trigger on Duet and I Pad. I want to keep the plugins off my main screen and pin them to I pad. Is this possible? Will the plugs change as I scroll through my channels. Will plugs on the output show up if I hit output on my Faderport 1? I hope these questions don't sound stupid. I don't want to waste my money. Thanks for any help.
The classic channel is much better seems like... I'd like a hybrid style desk with flying faders but the old fat channel... Anyone ever put flying faders in a classic?
Considering that starting a business is probably about $50K on average, and people get loans to do that, the StudioLive24 is very very cheap. I think that the perceived credibility for working in this fashion with this gear should not be understated for the marketing value. The shit looks COOL! Clients will factor that in (as well as the quality of the mix you give them).
This thing can do a 1000 things I dont need or understand it to do. I have a 4 track Fostex cassette recorder. But I don't want 4 tracks..I want 24 tracks, and I want to replace the cassette tape with an internal HD digital recorder. I need to be able to record a sync tone coming from my sequencer to the recorder so I can transfer all 16 midi channels from my keyboard to the multi tracker. Then I will have left over tracks for vocals, electric guitar and acoustic guitar. Once all that is done I will have individual control over volume, EQ, reverb over every single instrument and vocals. The reason I stick with my sequencer is because I already know how to quantize, copy and paste, set time signatures, delete a single event and then re-record it. I dont want to have to learn to do all that with a new piece of gear. So what is out there? Because this Presonus, as pretty as it is, is a Brobdingnagian nightmare
Are you connecting the SLIII to your computer via USB or AVB? I’m just wondering how much of a latency issue there is with USB and if there is any using AVB.
I’m still praying for daw mode to work with Cubase , so tired of hearing it’s on its way , there is a TON of people out there that are not studio one fans , I’ve wanted my studio live lll 32 track since it came out and I’m regretting buying it , so disappointed in Presonus , just venting Joe , miss you Tuesday UA-cam meetings !!!!
@@HomeStudioCorner Simple. Ditch Cubase and get Studio One. I did and for not a second regretted it. BTW, I don't have (but would love to have) a mixer board. Cubase crashes. Studio One just simply works.
Joe Gilder • Home Studio Corner it should say “featured in” PreSonus blogs...I have been following you that long. When I started in music recording your 17 part Studio One series was a big part of that. I have used nothing but PreSonus since. With all of the content you’ve given on PreSonus over the years it’s made it pretty simple to become pretty good at using Studio One and PreSonus gear.
That's a valid point Joe and food for thought, abbreviations are usually pronounced as initialisms, but when people say initialisms like a word it just makes sense to say it like Cow to me. I'm not even 100% if i am right but it works in my mind. Maybe it's a UK thing i don't know
Oh and save yourself some money and time and buy a used or refurbished Apple keyboard 2 and trackpad 2. Their internal battery charge lasts for weeks maybe months even using them everyday. If not using it could last a year. I dislike those old apple keyboards that take AAs they always need to be changed at inconvenient times and you must ether buy batteries or recharge them. Plus they always lose signal. Aghhhhh the 2nd bluetooth version is do much better and we'll be worth the money spent.
I really don't understand why you and Graham keep creating these single-purpose websites! It's really getting tiresome and annoying. Website for this. Website for that. Why not just www.homestudiocorner.com/whatever...

Love Joe Gilder!! Great Videos!!
I need to upgrade and go to the Nk iii 24. I have a first Gen 24.4.2 board and love it, this thing takes me to a new level.
Love your super *useful* channel. Great advice on mixing! Thanks!
Beautiful board. Hopefully they add independent pan knobs above each channel on the next gen console. Great content Joe.
Thanks Joe! Keep 'em coming!
I want this. Besides the eq not being fully accessible from the board, does putting the fat channel on the track effect processing speed?
Is the StudioLive compatible with Cubase 9.5 ?
If you did one more bicep curl you would be able to do a boy building show.. great video.

Nice vid Joe. Does it have a built in audio interface? Thx

Is the table you have for your mixer a custom? I'm planning to get the same mixer, by chance do you have the specs for that table?

The reason I stick with my sequencer is because I already know how to quantize, copy and paste, set time signatures, delete a single event and then re-record it. I dont want to have to learn to do all that with a new piece of gear. So what is out there? Because this Presonus, as pretty as it is, is a Brobdingnagian nightmare
Yup. This isn't for you.
I get it, man.
@@HomeStudioCorner Simple. Ditch Cubase and get Studio One. I did and for not a second regretted it. BTW, I don't have (but would love to have) a mixer board. Cubase crashes. Studio One just simply works.
Dude buy a pull out drawer underneath your desk i like my keyboard out of site
That intro tho
Plz answe me please
I mean it's not like you've done blogs (when that was a thing) all the way back in 2014 on PreSonus 🤷♂️
Huh?
Joe Gilder • Home Studio Corner it should say “featured in” PreSonus blogs...I have been following you that long. When I started in music recording your 17 part Studio One series was a big part of that. I have used nothing but PreSonus since. With all of the content you’ve given on PreSonus over the years it’s made it pretty simple to become pretty good at using Studio One and PreSonus gear.
Like mama always said......put on some clothes 🤣🤣🤣
Lol keep lifting. Lol. Epic
Doorw mode? why do lots of people pronounce that wrong. it's DAW, pronounce it like COW but with a D
Law. Saw. Paw. Jaw. Raw. 👈 Should those be pronounced like "Cow" too? 😂
Now I can't stop thinking about it. Is there one word in English where "aw" is pronounced like cow?
That's a valid point Joe and food for thought, abbreviations are usually pronounced as initialisms, but when people say initialisms like a word it just makes sense to say it like Cow to me. I'm not even 100% if i am right but it works in my mind. Maybe it's a UK thing i don't know
All good, amigo.
I'm in UK and you're nuts
Take a shot every time he says daw mode...
😂
Oh and save yourself some money and time and buy a used or refurbished Apple keyboard 2 and trackpad 2. Their internal battery charge lasts for weeks maybe months even using them everyday. If not using it could last a year. I dislike those old apple keyboards that take AAs they always need to be changed at inconvenient times and you must ether buy batteries or recharge them. Plus they always lose signal. Aghhhhh the 2nd bluetooth version is do much better and we'll be worth the money spent.
Put some clothes on!!
I really don't understand why you and Graham keep creating these single-purpose websites! It's really getting tiresome and annoying. Website for this. Website for that.
Why not just www.homestudiocorner.com/whatever...
It’s easier to say and to remember. Also it works.
@@HomeStudioCorner My position remains
😊 Mine too.
