John singing about his home state at Crossroads Coffeehouse in Winnsboro Texas on May 16, 2009. See www.johngorka.com for CD info and tour schedule. Recorded by Conrad Wolfman.
Clerks 3 will hit you very hard, especially when this song plays. If there’s anything you’ll learn from this movie, it’s enjoy the time you have here. Life’s too damn short. This song really hit me hard
I'm from New Jersey, Middletown to be specific. Where Clerks III was filmed :D. I live in Ohio, and first saw Clerks III in an Ohio theater. How think it hit me :D
That beautifully sad pearl jam song for dante that shortly leads into this song to end the movie is absolutely perfect. Who woulda thought clerks tugged at every emotion
Clerks 3 literally broke me. I lost my best friend this year. He was only 38 years old and all I can think of is Randall's line at the end: "I wish you were here, man."
A lot. Was a clerk for years before I got into the trades. And bonded with the films through that. Even though I'm I Randal guy the last thing I wanted was to see Dante go. I didn't even know until it happened.
I'm from New Jersey. WOODBRIDGE!!! I miss New Jersey. You can take the girl out of Jersey, but not the Jersey out of the girl. Jersey rules!!!! God Bless New Jersey!!!
Having seen John live a few times, it was such a treat to hear him singing at the end of Clerks 3 - hopefully brings a lot of new fans along for him :)
Actually Jersey is a mystical state for me, lots of mystery, lots of hidden places. Up in the Highlands, down in theBbarrens, along the beach or the farmlands, New Jersey always surprises me with its diversity. Many fond memories of snowboarding up at Mountain Creek with our son, and hiking up the highlands on Route 23 to towns like Colesville. I love the song, John Gorka, and New Jersey.
Holy crow. Almost no-one who was borne in Bayonne ever leaves Bayonne. You have a Glock dealer who also deals Barrett 50 cal sniper riffles. The police target range is open to the public. Three years ago, the school board "misplaced" $5m, laid off 20 % of the teaching staff only to rediscover the money and dismiss it as an accounting error.
I just love John Gorka. He's the real deal. Totally talented and pure. I cannot even count how many times I have seen him live and yes, I AM from New Jersey, too.
i live in Nj and this great song... I love the lyrics to the song John you hit it so good but I'm pround of being from NJ thxs for posting song a big fan from NJ......
Grew up in Cherry Hill. Met him at the Philly Folk Festival back in 1992. Very nice guy. Signed a cassette for me. A friend of mine got me hooked on his music.
John Gorka is one of my favorite alternative artists and the CD I own, Jack's Crows is just phenomenal. John Gorka performs material about regular folks and in the economic downturn, some of his selections are more authentic. John's lyrics are special and one of a kind. If you get a chance, going out to see John Gorka is an experience.
Listening to this, I want to go back 20 years, to Ithaca, NY: John Gorka, in solo concert; no amplification, so he just stood on the edge of the stage and sang loud. Truly brilliant.
all i know is that im from jersey and im damn proud of it...theres no place like it, anyone from jersey knows how magical it is and anyone not from there thinks its shit which is fine by us, stay out
As a bona fide "Jersey Girl" (shout out to Ocean Port where I came into the world) no matter where I roam exit 7a will always bring me home. Love the Clerks movies. Losing Dante at the end was a real bummer!
I'm from New Jersey... and this describes my childhood, except my mom's not Italian. But I lived all those references. Unfortunately, I don't live in NJ anymore, cost of living in NJ is way to high now.
what a gift John gives with going on tour for his fans. He could start his own label, with his fan base. I bow down low, Japanese style for his heart, he bears, for those tha love his music.
Gave up my Long Beach, Ca. Apt to have enough $ to travel to NJ for a nice homecoming. When got back to Calie I had no place to stay, so I slept in my car for 2months, at the Belmont Beach Pking. in LB, Ca.One night I found the Upsala Radio Station on my car radio. And they played this song. I had forgotten all about it until tonight while reviewing my journal and found the notes from that night. So I looked up the song, There was no UA-cam in 8.14.1997. Yeah I'm from NJ too Love the NJ
I though clerks 3 would be a crazy offensive comedy which is my favorite/the best type of comedy but it turned into a very emotional movie in a good & realistic way(since I was expecting 100% comedy since I was depressed & needed something to laugh with at first it may not be the correct choice but it ended up making me feel better, the religious jokes at the beginning made south pak look like kids stuff 😂🤣😂)Kevin Smith truly deserved an Oscar for this movie it was a labor of love & at the credits he made it even clearer,im not from New Jersey but this song is beautiful & people from New Jersey should follow this song instead of the stereotypes made by the show Jersey shore(that show is obviously an embarrassment but this song would make you feel proud/respected that you’re from New Jersey)great job kevin, truly unexpected(the welcome to the black parade & Rosario’s character being dead should had made me know that this wasn’t going to be a silly movie & that’s why it took me by surprise)these are facts.
@dredger9mm I think of my dad who put himself last when it came to giving to the family, he worked so hard and always thought it was not good enough , but it was and his children grew to be wonderful individuals who love and respect people.
The original recording sounds so somber and serious, it seems strange to watch it being played for laughs here, as if it were a novelty song. Doesn't seem right somehow.
FORGIVENESS IS THERE GOT ANY PROBLEMS GO TO JESUS REPENT JESUS LOVES ALL GOD NUMBER ONE BETTER THAN EVERYBODY AND EVERYTHING GOD BLESS U CHOOSE HEAVEN WITH JESUS OR BE WITH THE WORLD AND LIKE THE WORLD AND GO TO HELL
I am from New Jersey and have lived in Philadelphia for decades. I love this song but don't like this version he's mocking the state and New Jersey is great.
I heard you're from Pennsylvania, but that doesn't really rhyme, does it? lol. And your eyes either look drugged out or VERY tired... Take it easy, whatever you're doin', man.
Clerks 3 will hit you very hard, especially when this song plays. If there’s anything you’ll learn from this movie, it’s enjoy the time you have here. Life’s too damn short. This song really hit me hard

Sitting here in the movie theater. Watching the ending credits of Clerks 3. With tears streaming down my cheeks.
🔥broke down to this song the first time I heard it🔥
Proud to be from new Jersey this song is 100 what nj about
That beautifully sad pearl jam song for dante that shortly leads into this song to end the movie is absolutely perfect. Who woulda thought clerks tugged at every emotion
The ending was terribly sad.
I love Clerks forever, but the sadness was unnecessary.
Makes me cry every time I see the ending of 3
I heard this in clerks 3 like everyone else. And yeah i cried like a baby also
Just heard this in "Clerks III"
Wow!
Great song. Anyone else ball their eyes out to clerks 3? This man did.
Clerks III hit me right in the feels, man
You're here because you expected Clerks 3 to make you laugh and it instead broke your heart and your brain.
Clerks 3 introduced me to this beauty of a song
I'm from New Jersey. WOODBRIDGE!!! I miss New Jersey. You can take the girl out of Jersey, but not the Jersey out of the girl. Jersey rules!!!! God Bless New Jersey!!!
My friend is from woodbridge lmfao, i’m from asbury. There’s something about NJ that other states just don’t have but I don’t know what it is
Clerks III brought me here ❤️🥲
I finally discover this song from Clerks 3
Kevin Smith sent me. Jeff's Kiss!
Having seen John live a few times, it was such a treat to hear him singing at the end of Clerks 3 - hopefully brings a lot of new fans along for him :)
“I’m not even supposed to be here today!”
"I wish you were here, man."
*weeping begins*
If you plan to shoplift, let us know. Thanks.
God, I miss live music.
Clerks 3 brought me here.
Not dragged against my will.

Just heard this on the radio for the first time today! Hilarious! I'm from Jersey and grew up two towns away from him!
This should be our Jersey National Anthem. Great job John. Love EXIT 8A...
I AM from New Jersey.. and I do like the song...
I may have moved from Jersey in 1977, now live in Alaska but my heart will always be in Bayonne. Love this song-it really says what’s in our hearts.
Rahway!

Great sound! This is a wonderful performance of a favorite song. When I grow up, I want to be John Gorka.
I'm born in Paterson third-largest city in NJ! It's off Exit 155P off the GSP! I'm now living in FL, but I want to move back!
I just love John Gorka. He's the real deal. Totally talented and pure. I cannot even count how many times I have seen him live and yes, I AM from New Jersey, too.
I saw him several times in the 1990's to sold out auditoriums. His voice, ah, that voice! Love him so much.

Nigga half our state dead smell worse than New York but we get lit still 😂
@@kyoki6620 hahaha, truth.
One of the worst states, no doubt!
He is a comedian too! Great show, saw him in Wisconsin last year at the Thrasher Opera House.
I'd love to hear John live.
YOU HAVE HUGE FANS IN POLAND, JOHN!
Greetings from Poland.
Funniest 2 lines, "They're found in shopping malls, I will take you there" and "It's like Ohio, but even more so"....come on.....brilliant!
John Gorka, he’s playing at Lizzie rose music room, East 217 East Main St., Tuckerton, NJ. Thursday and Friday the 24th and 25th of July
What a great and humorous stage presence. I like your song about growing old too. Hope to see you soon on tour!

I was listening to John Gorka music and reviewing since 2005. Some heavy economy stuff in there.
this is so great! His recordings are so sad, but the same songs come alive with humor in live performances
this is GREAT!!

And Mike Edgerton, he frequently notes that he wrote this song before E-Z Pass came out when he performs it. He lives in Minn now.

Doing Great. I want to hear Always and Italian Girls. Those need airplay, you're bound for fame, the best Tony V
"Hace mucho tiempo, en una galaxia muy, muy lejana. . ."
Wonderful. .]

You weren't even supposed to be here today.
❤❤❤
This is Dr Oz's favorite song 🎵
If you weren't crying when this was playing at the end of Clerks III then you are most certainly dead inside or lacking a soul.
No mention of diners and Camaros.
I’m not even supposed to be here today
I'm from New Jersey. My name is Michael. In Haddonfield, I was so mean. Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance thought they could stop me on Halloween.
@dredger9mm I think of my dad who put himself last when it came to giving to the family, he worked so hard and always thought it was not good enough , but it was and his children grew to be wonderful individuals who love and respect people.
You from Jersey, Im from Jersey, what exit?
He was born, and grew up in New Jersey, he went to college in Pennsylvania...
The original recording sounds so somber and serious, it seems strange to watch it being played for laughs here, as if it were a novelty song. Doesn't seem right somehow.
He's in Texas but singing about New Jersey. Is he even supposed to be there?
Was this the source of the clip shown on Rachel Maddow tonight?
GOD NUMBER ONE REPENT JESUS 1ST LOVE REPENT GOD BLESS U ALL JESUS CHRIST NUMBER ONE REPENT GOD NUMBER ONE
Anyone who thinks there are no tolls on the GSP obviously lives someplace other than NJ.
I’m from New Jersey and that was a swing and a miss.
Rip Dante
LOL the Springsteen arm raise!!
what's the chord progression?
Great lyrics. The Texas audience obviously didn't get the "Springsteen arm wave", even when he did it the second time.
Springsteen blows so who cared?
This song is so much better when he cuts the shit and just does the song. It's best without the humor. Dont you know what makes your song great?
@xdanaxinsanax yes there are
@danzofear would adjust
I don't "talk" that way either ... Bound Brook
Uhhhmmm, he's too Jersey to be in Texas....and yeah, I know of which I speak, exit 8 baby!
Got that right and I'm to New Jersey to be in texas
