JESUS saved mine. Once. Now l have my Cross to bear. Call on HIM. Man, HE gave us all we have. HE gives us eternal life. Not religion, but GOD LOVE. JESUS is the 'One Stop Shop', HE has everything you could ever desire, my friends.
I’ve been a John Gorka fan since his first album and had the privilege to see him on many occasions and met him once or twice. His music is intelligent, humorous, heartfelt and heartbreaking. John has one of the most beautiful voices in the singer songwriter world. Thank you for all the enjoyment you’ve given me.
During the 18 year career I was blessed to have in the music industry, John Gorka was the wisest and most humble artist I met. Thank you so much for bringing us your artistry.
Just hit me today after the LORD gave me this song again... must've listened to it 2 days ago. Couldn't 'hear' that day, l guess. Didn't even remember that l had heard it. What a difference a day or two makes... Love is our gig from GOD. But today, l get it. Been 18yrs Born Again but always searching, instead of living it. I get the "LORD, LORD, DIDN'T I ....." script now. Wow. Thanks, JESUS. Thx, John.
No, YT gave you the song based on their algos. God doesn't care about your musical preferences. God wants you to live a normal life and stop being a cultist. Serve God by serving others and stop this nonsense.
@TheBuddyShowWorldwide Man, you missed your calling! Asif there aren't enough judges in the world. You think you know God's music choices? You speak for Him? I'm busy working for Jesus at this minute but when l'm done, l will get back to you... 👆👈👉💪
@@TheBuddyShowWorldwide The LORD GOD ALMIGHTY cares for me. If l tell you HE gave me this song to comfort me or teach me, that's exactly what I meant. Put down your hoo-doo stick & call upon JESUS. HE will send you songs, too. And more....
Yeah, I agree. I’ve loved him for decades and it’s been my great good fortune to have seen him perform many times. Those who don’t know him are sorely missing out.
A beautiful baritone that reaches deep into the soul with poignancy and heartbreaking efficiency , a lifetime connection that stays dormant until a moment like this when the sadness is reawakened . Temporary road I keep treading until happiness arrives.
Some time in the mid nineties I was sitting in Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem Pa on Sunday open mic night and this man graced the small room of 10-15 people with a few new tunes he wanted to share. It was awesome to say the least...
I had just assumed he was fr Bethlehem but it's where he got his start I realized after first visit there to see Tish Hinajosa, shared table w another elderly and 10-13 others. Hope they're ok
Ok, "Let Them In" is ONE of my favorites - but "Love is our Cross to Bear" is the best of the best. Grabs my heart every time and just doesn't let go. Love love love.
One of the greatest tributes to John's brilliance is found in the cover art of Windham Hill's 1989 CD anthology "Legacy", which consists of thumbnail photos of the 19 artists featured. In Bill Morrissey's, he's holding up a sign that says, "I wrote all of Gorka's songs."
Thank God for music streaming, because I found him by chance. Then I sent his music to a friend, and Gorka has given us another good reason to support each other.
I first found the music of John Gorka at the Skokie Public Library. Having no money to buy music, I had to go foraging. Fortunately, an acquisitions librarian there knew a thing or two. It had his CD, "Out of the Valley." I got to borrow it for 10 days! It's been on my play list ever since. I am extremely grateful for this music.
The first Gorka song I heard. I was a senior in high school, 1995. It hit home. I was in love with C. Took her to prom. Then it was over. We reconnected years later and were together on and off for years. I still miss that summer's fading song.
Great writer, great singer, great shows. I did one of his in my show this past Saturday. As a songwriter I have had two people that I cling to their work, Guy Clark (RIP) and John Gorka. Both write songs that I can listen to a hundred times and they seem new each time. Timeless. Thanks Mr. Gorka for doing what you do.
Had occasions to see him at concerts and festivals back in the '90's. He was always approachable if not a bit shy. His voice is so melifluous. He was and is an inspiration to songwriters to this day, myself included :)
A perfect love song...one I wish I could share with her.....thanks for writing it for us....now, if I could only leave that cross behind me among the dusty memories.......
"They say there are a few who can say it for the many...and maybe one or two, who can say it for the few and one of them was you.." --Ralph McTell (Sylvia)Plath.
Probably one of the best song writers to ever live...On a level with Steve Goodman, John Prine, Hank Williams etc. I remember when he was a kid...LOL...You can count the gray hairs in both our heads now...I was playing Virginia Beach when I heard his first album...Been singing his stuff for my close personal friends for years...They ALL love it...My all time favorite is armed with a broken heart...
I discovered John through an American friend while working in China in the early 1990s. His voice, his words, his humour and his modesty have made him my favourite ever since. Few days pass without me listening to him. When will he come to the UK?
I will never forget the day I was wandering my hometown; already a huge John Gorka fan, and I saw a little flyer on the sidewalk with his face on it. It was for a concert he was playing that day, in our little middle school auditorium…the show was about to start, I was already on that block, and I had the whole day free (rare). It was some kind of benefit. He sounded so good in that space! Felt like I stepped into a magical musical alternate universe that day
Also, I have been harmonizing with this song for so many years and learned it on guitar! Have yet to find a nice baritone voice to sing it with but I can hear it perfectly in my head
My goodness, I met a women melissa was her name and we met on a hl in Wisconsin just like this it's like you were there I love her to this day and I will forever always! Beautiful song sir❤
One of my favorite singer/songwriters. I've been lucky enough to see him often and every show is terrific. Great melodies and clever, inspirational lyrics.
"....And so it is until we meet again And I throw my arms around you You can count the gray hairs in my head I'll still be thankful that I found you..."
Found the recording "Particle of Wave: recorded 5/12/18 (Hopkins Arts MN), Will pass on to students...Just heard you sing in Peterborough ~ Keep being John! . Grateful for your songs that stretch emotions and time~
This is, possibly, my favorite tune by you. I stumbled onto your music back in the 90's and have remained a fan since. The reason this song means so much to me, is that I was living through a similar experience when I first heard it. Actually, it was The One That Got Away, now that I think of it. I've seen your shows and love your humor too. I always thought that Hammering In The Dark would have made a great theme song for a show about your experiences. Maybe I should pitch that idea to someone in television. Anyway, love ya brother. Please keep the faith and writing great music. TC
I removed all of the songs from my music file that referenced love or relationships, except for this one, in the final years I have resigned myself that those things are well behind me. There was that one that I never have gotten over, more that damaged me beyond repair. Some things are better left alone.
Hey John-- have always loved your music. The first time I heard your songs was at the Kerrville Music Fest in TX & Kathy Mattea sang your whole album around the campfire. Great intro to you. Then met you at a signing at a record store in Ft Worth. Have an autographed cassette--lol!. Times have & are always changing. Roll with the flow! Carry on my friend
Don’t know likely JG will see comments years later, but, his music saved my life twice. A treasure and a blessing.
❤

Music does that doesn't it..saved mine x
Yup, I'm recovering from a massive heartbreak right now. Music will help me through it.

I've been following him since his 1st album and lucky enough to see him about 15 times.
could not have said it better .

I adore John Gorka. He is so incredibly talented. I e seen him live a number of times. He’s a brilliant artist, and kind human being ❤️

Hello jenny
How are you doing today?
I resolved myself to the fact that only a few of us have gotten the chance to appreciate John Gorka's music.
And yet it's aggravating.
Honey, I loved him 30 years ago went to all the little shows and Passim Lovely
Yeah, I agree. I’ve loved him for decades and it’s been my great good fortune to have seen him perform many times. Those who don’t know him are sorely missing out.
Me too. I'm 63.
Yes I agree he is so soul stirring and thought provoking
A beautiful baritone that reaches deep into the soul with poignancy and heartbreaking efficiency , a lifetime connection that stays dormant until a moment like this when the sadness is reawakened . Temporary road I keep treading until happiness arrives.
Ah yes the melancholy in the struggle of life! You are never alone…
What a beautiful turn of phrase-- heartbreaking efficiency
I have followed this guy for years and he never fails to charm, make you think, make you smile or break your heart. Great voice great writer!
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
Love grows where my Rosemary goes...
How does one person have both the most compelling, singular voice and the highest ability to put words to music at the same time?
I just saw him live tonight, and requested this song . So very beautiful!
Saw John play here in NM last week. Had not seen him in over 30 years - this song still just knocked me out!
Some time in the mid nineties I was sitting in Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem Pa on Sunday open mic night and this man graced the small room of 10-15 people with a few new tunes he wanted to share. It was awesome to say the least...
Trimmer How special! I am just now discovering him. Feeling a bit cheated for coming so late to the party.
I have so many good memories of catching him in little venues back then in the area. I’m sure we almost shared a beer at some point ;-)
I had just assumed he was fr Bethlehem but it's where he got his start I realized after first visit there to see Tish Hinajosa, shared table w another elderly and 10-13 others. Hope they're ok
How freaking fortunate!
Ok, "Let Them In" is ONE of my favorites - but "Love is our Cross to Bear" is the best of the best. Grabs my heart every time and just doesn't let go. Love love love.
A beautiful soul wrote this song

I had that one on cassette! He's the best. If "True In Time" was on vinyl it would have the grooves worn off
Brings me to tears, every time. And John....you look like you may cry, as well. I miss them all...all the ones who are gone....
First time I hear that song. Love it. Full of love.
Best from Iceland
BUENOS DIAS JOHN.... TU VOZ CÁLIDA.....LLENA DE MATICES Y SENTIMIENTO.... ES UN PLACER ESCUCHARTE!!!!!❤🎤🎼
could melt a glacier
Miles Baltrusaitis and freeze one...
Love the man, love the song and love the red building in the picture behind him watching all of us.
This man is a gift.
Thank God for music streaming, because I found him by chance. Then I sent his music to a friend, and Gorka has given us another good reason to support each other.
Never fails to slay me no matter how many times I listen to it. Thank you John Gorka 👏🏻
Most moving song ever. I live this song daily. Thank you.
This was the first song of John's that I heard. Very personal to all of us I guess.

Great perspective and truth about great songwriters, songs and art! Timeless
Such a beautiful song.
So beautiful & fragile.
You certainly make a good noise Sir.

I discovered John through an American friend while working in China in the early 1990s. His voice, his words, his humour and his modesty have made him my favourite ever since. Few days pass without me listening to him. When will he come to the UK?

Sounds like it was written from deep personal history. Marvelous song.

One of my very favorite songs. I saw John play in Kalamazoo, Michigan back in the late 1980s or early 1990s and it was a lovely experience.
