Good takes! I'm glad word is still getting out about this game. It deserves to be played by a lot more people.

I really loved this game too - I liked what you said about recognising this should be the new standard and the old megamans should just be played for nostalgia.. Hard to swallow pill time lol.
Great vid dude (also great thumbnail)

I'm the type to replay if the gameplay is snappy and well polished. I've dumped 70+ hours into this.
Most of that extra time was from getting achievements and redoing boss fights in the kind-of-hidden Boss Rush room at HQ until I can beat each of them with no damage.
This game reworked boss abilities to something that is - in my opinion - more interesting than the old rock-paper-scissors system.
All Bursts (boss moves) you gain can stagger every boss. But they share a limited single energy source. And all of them reset the boss' internal trigger to 0.
What this effectively does is encourage you to find ways to chain Bursts together (and maybe sneak a few punches in between before resetting s again) to steamroll bosses, comboing them like a fighting game.
Yes, this does trivialize the bosses even further. But I think it's mostly a positive thing because it adds player expression in the way you fight. I've seen people share a lot of very creative combos in the GC Discord. I also think this is way more interesting than just "know the boss weakness and spam it", there is actually some execution involved.
Also, just like the old Mega Man system, you won't know this unless you figure it out yourself or learn from an outside source.
Anyway, I don't disagree on your take that the game can feel rather easy. But I think this is more a case of you being very used to 2d action platformers. The old Mega Man X games were also made in an era where games were significantly more difficult on average and had less margin for error.

If you lose during the gauntlet
The boss battle restarts, but you dont have to redo the circuit fights you’ve already defeated, the crystal just sends you to the one you haven’t beaten yet

@@ace0135 Got it. Disappointed to hear that, as the challenge of having to do them all at once was a good one.
      Thanks for the clarification.

In fact, you should beat this boss in one go if you want to gain bonus for taking less damage, as well as for not reaching the certain time limit
Challenge is still here, yet it's easier to learn while playing first time, and it's not mandatory like in old games, where difficulty was quite high (if compared to current releases) to make up for amount of content

I like most parts of the game, except some of the basic moves. Upward attack is also lifting Kai up, and because of that, I end up taking damage while fighting against flying enemies. And I also don't really like downward attack, even though it's quite good to use against enemies, I always had trouble using it during boss fights. It almost seems like hitbox of its attack is so small that if boss moves somewhere, I can take contact damage.
I also tried to beat the game on hard mode without any upgrades at all, and it was moderately difficult, although not really hard because enemy throwing mechanic is really good for these types of runs. Final boss took me two hours, though (that might be skill issue).

Got to be honest, so many game reviewers think giving the player more options means it surpasses anything it copied from. Like no thats not it, if we are going by that logic then any 2d platformer that has more moves for the character means it beats out Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. People don't seem to understand a intentional control scheme, having limitations, not understanding its not just old game design, Ghosts N Goblins Resurrection just came out a little awhile ago, theres a reason it has a deliberate stiff control scheme.

@@davebond1981 I can't imagine anytime soon but hopefully it sold well enough to allow for it. I'm not sure if it did though

@@kaldini At the end of January the devs celebrated the game selling 60000 copies in 6 months, which is something they were surprised by: maybe we'll get a more recent number now that the anniversary is in 2 days, but they seem at least satisfied (especially if you consider the game released in a year with many big and anticipated AAA games).
