He's not that strong. Air units are expensive, and his super power costs a crazy amount to use. What makes CO's strong is the ability to create a death ball of units (Colin, Hachi, Sensei) or make their entire army good day to day reliably (Sturm, Kanbei, Hawke, and Jess, Jess because the vast majority of battles are fought with ground units.)

Caulder and Sturm destroy everything in the game. Sturm's 0 movement cost plus bonus firepower and defense makes him best day to day, quickest to capture properties plus his super CO is ridiculous, the meteor destroys units the offense cleans up and the defense upgrade makes sure opponent cannot retaliate for the next turn. Caulder's large CO zone with high firepower and defense and that ridiculous 5HP heal every turn makes sure his units are a walking never ending abyss. 5hp heal is the most broken ability in all universe of Advance wars.
For those of you wondering the top 5 list is something like this (best to worst/top to bottom Caulder Tabitha Hachi Sturm Kanbei/colin (depending on if its aw2 or dual strike)
You forgot eagle. Eagle is pretty stronk. Also has one of the best CO themes. Also he’s easily stronger than Jess because his air units beat hers, his infantry has more firepower, his ground units don’t lose firepower, and his AW1 power and his super power let him move and attack twice. Getting a bomber as eagle is basically a win condition.
I wouldn't say he's easily stronger than Jess. I love Eagle as much as the next flyboy, but you can never underestimate movement boost+attack boost on relatively low cost powers. Superior vehicles are also going to be more useful in more battles than superior air units. And Lightning Strike takes a very long time to get up and running. However, CO version does change the assessment quite a bit. AWDS Jess and AWDS Eagle are quite different from their AW2 counterparts.
@@joejaboy You literally get so much charge in 1v1 awds just from killing a few infantry from the hyper obligatory unit spam. 5 Lightning strikes before any possible base trade and the tank attack advantage is left to nibble on some pencil dust once Eagle personally reaches Jess's HQ.

Sasha...more gold for more units based on captured cities by mech & infantry.Then, there's "Miss Lucky",Nell, who could 1 shot tanks with infantry & mechs.
@@TheHeavieKiwie tbf the other 2 factions are really terrible, i mean between Greyfield and Waylon Waylon wins by default and only boosting air is meh at best, and then between Tasha boosting only air attack which is nearly useless anyway since Air is already busted in attack strenght, Gage boosting only indirects which in his case makes him just a worse Grit due to how the CO system works even if granted the rest of his forces arent penalised on Firepower either, and then Forsythe, who probably wins by default despite being the most generic CO possible in terms of power just cus his CO zone covers half of the map and you can just repeatedly throw him away for litteraly no consequences whatsoever beside losing a unit. And Isabella is busted because of her CO power that essentially means "yup i won GGWP"
In dual strike, without taking into account the tag system, the skills you can apply make this even more dumb like making Colin give at max 33% cheaper units, giving hachi the ability to ignore terrain, and even getting stronger comm tower effects for Javier
Depends what games you are talking about aw2 sensei is insane, but i think he got his infantry nerfed in dual strike. Jess is really good in dual strike, but sucks ass in aw2. Also Kanbei. I rest my case
Isabella is strong but I would argue Forsythe is overall stronger. Isabella is limited by the fact that she actually has to get her power up which is notoriously hard in DoR. Waylon is the king of high funds.
No. She's a noob slayer but that's all. Alright, she's fine in Fog of War, but in the classic PvP settings, she's mid tier at best, due to her small CO zone and a glitch.
Tabitha looks strong but remember that DoR stats have diminishing returns, Tabitha's zone range is 0 by default and she doesn't gain charge on counter attack. Assuming you don't lose your CO unit, you will have full charge by the time your opponent has counters flying all over the map.

It depends on the game mode. In Standard and Fog, Eagle is tier 2 while Kanbei and Sensei are tier 0. (banned in competitive play) In high funds, (2000 income per property each turn) Eagle gets better and moves up to tier 1 while Sensei and Kanbei get worse and lowered to tier 1. That being said, the answer is probably Kanbei because even some high funds maps ban him. Advance Wars by Web uses the AW2 version of Jess rather than Dual Strike version of her, people I've talked to speculate that her DS stats would make her tier 2. Its also worth noting that Javier is considered tier 1 on any map with 1 comm tower per player and tier 0 on any map with at least 2 comm towers per player.

Sensei beats Kanbabe. Infinite meat walls with indirect support will nullify that 30+ defense.
Sensei is no joke. The ability to spam a horde of instant cannon fodder and block up the enemy lines is incredibly powerful.
