Both have positives and negatives. Wargroove is probably better balanced (since it can be patched) but I liked dual strikes art style and characters because I grew up with them. Nostalgia and all that.
I genuinely hope to see another one of these advance wars skits. I loved the heck out of the gameboy games way back so it's neat seeing some of this stuff again.

I tried my hands on Advance Wars Reboot Camp. I was so impressed and felt that the game is for me. After finishing it, I think it’ll be nice if I play a game with the same mechanics as Advance Wars but in a different theme. I heard about Wargroove 2 in a Nintendo direct. And so I went for it. Then also played the first game because I want to continue my experience.
I wonder if Tiny Metal will suddendly pop into one of these. It is tecnically another spiritual successor to AW. Fun vid btw! The struggle is 2real4me ;-;
You know, i think i never trought about the restriction of the pipes, i stop thinking about it too much when any not aerial unit, specially submarines, can block the movement of aerial units XD as for the carpet, as you see in 1:43 this tiles were made for interior structures, like the first level in the campaign that is a castle, technically it should have a wall over it so flying units can traverse, Fire Emblem for example miss the memo and structures have no roof whatsoever, how else do you think flyers trespass and even sit on walls. ;P
Im assuming that the carper and all those tiles inside castle doors represent a castle unterior so the flying thing ki da makes sense. To a degree. Still calling BS on the black hole pipes tho... (That Black hole pipe runner casually sliding un and deleting those downed units made my day)
I guess the carpet are forbiding flying and wheeled units in order to make sense... Cause it would be weird to see a bigass trebuchet or a bunch of flying wizards INSIDE a castle
so what about maps where people put carpets in the middle of the field with no relation to its design then? I wouldn't make this if they actually lock their "indoor" tiles to strictly as an indoor environment scenario, but you are free to place these "indoor" tiles in a open field, so yeah.
@@NCHProductions Welp game design isn't for everyone x) but that's just my thoughts on the red carpet for *solo* missions. I'm clueless for the pipe though
Have you seen The Saga of Tanya the Evil? Is about an alternative magical World War 1.5 where a salaryman is born as a little girl with magic and joins an aerial mage unit.
I guess the idea of the carpets and floors is that they're indoors areas and thus not practical for the bigger units to 'fit in'... but then I think golems just throw that concept into the woodchipper? WG is really weird on its tile rules sometimes XD
I sure hope to see more of those. Keep 'em coming! If you end up with ideas to contrast every different mechanic between the two games, it could end up being one of the best unintended tutorials ever made.
The silliest part about this is that walls/pipes are somehow tall enough to block flying units, yet ranged units can fire over them just fine, even if the target is "indoors."
I kind of assumed that tiles like the carpet were supposed to be "indoors" with the ceiling not displayed for the sake of making things easier to see and understand. So it makes sense that you couldn't get flying units or such into the area.
@@NCHProductions True enough. Plus if you consider the ability to shoot across walls and such with the idea that the flagstone and carpet is supposed to be inside, you've got to have some reality-warping window magic going on.
Well of course no vehicle can cross a carpet. They don't clean their threads. Not like people would simply roll out the red carpet to get it dirty now would they?
One of my biggest disadvantages in Wargroove (Specifically the second game) is that you cannot move units on wheels (like the trebuchet, the ballista, and the wagon) into a forest. Which is a shame because the forest provides good cover. Meanwhile in Advance Wars all of the land units can go into forests.
The reason Carpets are unmovable is because they are inside a castle/strcture, which would make no sence for air units to be inside. Pipes on the other hand Make no sence.
Well, the thing with the pipes is they are MASSIVE. Almost as tall as the cities... Still Flying over them shouldn't be hard, but yeah... They are F-ing massive.
I just realized that the witch might have the advantage if it's critical attack does more damage than a standard fighter attack. If it does do more damage, then the A.V. side is screwed since they don't have allied witches. In other words, the witches always get to do a critical attack.
Ok but are we not going to mention how despite the fact that nothing can fly over castle walls/pipes, it's still possible to shoot arrows/missiles over them?
@@NCHProductions Ah FOW...NCH. A question for you. What happens when a moving vehicle or a large unstoppable creature in motion meets something smaller?

I think the flagstones and carpets are cool. It's like the castle has an inside where larger/airborne units can't go.
A lot here saying "I'm gonna go buy/play wargroove" and I'm here wanting to go back to advance wars dual strike.
I know it will never happen but I'd love an actual sequel to that game. Dual Strike was amazing and Days of Ruin just...wasn't.

Should've have glanced over how stupid is that air units and ground units can't pass by each other, lol
I love seeing this mini serie, it just bring me back so much memories of advance wars.
like, how tall are the pipes/walls if you can fly over mountains?
also who dares to drive over a red carpet!! (no joke on why you can't fly over it..)

At least red carpet can be explained with "magic". But the pipes though
I saw it as those carpet tiles being "indoors" spaces where theres no room to fly

I guess you can't fly over the carpet beacouse the carpet it's under a castle(?)
