Hi, and also, ( as from historian by education) few more details, thing is that Georgians in Caucasus, Etruscans in Italy, Corsicans in Corsica, Picts in Britain, Spanish Iberians in Spain and other Iberian/ Celtic peoples have same ethno, ethnic origin and represent Iberian race, Iberian, Iberian/ Celtic peoples of Europe and this is why all these listed peoples ( together with originality of each of these ethno, ethnic peoples) have similarities, identical in different forms of culture, in folk music, dance, in ancient architectural style and so on. Also Georgians cultures of different historical times are European ( together with their own culture/ cultures, influences with different European cultures, beginning from ancient times, influences with ancient Greek civilizations, cultures, with Roman cultures, later with Byzantine (East Roman) culture, with Catholic Europe and other European cultures during all historical periods in history of Georgians, Georgia ) and of course, all these things proven historically/scientifically by World's, European ( including Georgian) historians/scientists, and this is why Georgians ( Georgia's) European/Western way is absolutely naturally and historically right way to returning to their European roots, which means their true Georgians roots in this South- Eastern, Caucasus region of Europe, where Georgia itself is located and this is how vast majority of Georgians consider themselves and their country. Just in case, all other different kind interpretations history of Georgians and Georgia represents distorted Soviet- Bolshevik history, false Soviet stereotypes.

Eng:The Georgian people created the Georgian history are one of the most ancient nations in the world. The Kingdom of Georgia flourished during the 10th to 12th centuries under King David IV and Queen Tamar the Great of Bagrationi dynasty, and fell to the Mongol invasion by 1243, and after a brief reunion under George V the Brilliant to the Timurid Empire. After a brief bid for independence with the Democratic Republic of Georgia of 1918-1921, Georgia was part of the Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic from 1922 to 1936, and then formed the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic until the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The current republic of Georgia (offical name is Georgia) has been independent since 1991.

"South Ossetia" (more correctly the Tskhinvali Region) and Abkhazia (Apkhazeti) will forever be my heartache. It's like a part of my heart got stolen and it'll always hurt.
And people can argue about history hours and hours, but I feel like they never listen. They eather say I'm too biased or I should educate myself.
I've spent months on studying the whole conflict and maybe it was partly the weakness of Zviad Gamsakhurdia and his speeches that made the conflict deepening even more. But I can't say that he was a far-right ultranationalist. He was a nationalist, which itself isn't a problem, being devoted to your own nation and loving it is the right way. But he was unable to keep the country united, probably because he had no experience in politics.
The whole problem started with the Ossetian demand of more authonomy (it was an authonomous oblast) and the Abkhaz secessionist movement. So how should a newly elected president react? Probably not very kindly. So it's the least thing to send the police forces to the breakaway regions. If they resist, the military is needed.
We know the Sakartvelos Mkhedrioni weren't really conducted by the president, and I admit that they commited some atrocities. They were a poorly organized paramilitary militia, not a real national military army. So the president with his political weakness had no chance to control them. I mean they even made a coup d'etat against him, saying he was too dictatorial, said people who were former so called "legal criminals" in the old Soviet society, people like Jaba Ioseliani or Tengiz Kitovani. A bit hypocritic, isn't it? I personally know a former Soviet general and later on Mkhedrioni head, Gia Vashakidze. He is a kind, but strong amd tough personality for me. He never in his career commited any cruelties in the war, he is a man of honour. He is one of the examples that show that not even all of the Mkhedrionis were such criminals and murderers.

One will say, he/she is watching RT and therefore he/she knows the "truth". The same is true for western media. Both are full with propaganda and lies. And I find it funny, how foreigners try to "investigate" about the Georgian-Russian conflict. I don't think it's right to let non-Georgian people judge about our history.

As an American I learned most of my history from historical games. Georgia has always been an interesting and fascinating place for me. I plan to visit Batumi soon. I played Colchis, Pontus, and Cimmeria alot in Rome 2 total war. I also play this region alot in Crusader Kings 2. I find it interesting that kings built the entire kingdom but it was all lost under a queen... Cheers.
I would say it was lost soon after Queen’s death. And the reason was Mongol invasion, they were just unstoppable force destroying everything on their way like hurricane.
Tamar was a queen titled as King and during her rule Georgia was biggest in history.

Self determination does not justify separation and even if it would, there died more Georgians so their right of self determination would be higher, even if it would contradict territorial integrity, which it does not.
