Even though I was diagnosed with/narcolepsy as a teenager I’ve told friends, family, & the doctors that I can drive as long as I get a good night’s rest & I get some caffeine in my system. I’m able to function throughout the whole day just fine that way. If I can prove that I can function just fine by either by myself or with someone riding w/me, I don’t see what the big deal is. It’s just been my experience that pharmaceutical meds they either, too strong, not strong enough, they wear off at a certain time during the day or they present too many symptoms/side effects…..
This is definitely my life. I have had narcolepsy for most of my life. I bought a seat cover that vibrates. If I start to feel that drop like feeling in my head or my breathing starts to slow I will turn it on. It stimulates me enough to wake me up. I talk to people all of the time!! Lol my friends know how I am and are pretty much rock stars. But same for me blaring my music does nothing. I often sleep at
Hockey games and concerts.
I've never heard of the seat cover, I need to try that! I'm a Floridian and I've slept in SO MANY theme parks lol
I can't watch movies or read books anymore bc I can't stay awake for long enough I miss it
I'm constantly doing the pulling over and sleeping in a parking lot. I even know which ones have cameras and when they are open so thus more busy and safer lol
My husband and his dad and sister have it and he took on a new job that’s an hour drive. Any suggestions?? Medication??
I recently bought a shock clock and use it to give myself a zap on long drives
I found snacking on small items (seeds, peanuts, etc.) helps because it keeps me busy and does not fill me up fast.
How is your husband doing with his hour drive? I am actually in the same boat. I start next month, and Mt drive will be 1 hour, and I "Just" recently was diagnosed with Narcolepsy
I’m 32 and just now learning i have narcolepsy 🥲
