  • Central Railroad of New Jersey 1000 was the first successful diesel-electric locomotive ever produced. It was built in cooperation of the American Locomotive Company, General Electric and Ingersoll-Rand in 1925. CNJ 1000 is a boxcab type switcher locomotive and has 300 horsepower under its belt.
The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum Rail Ops team has been working to bring 1000 back to its as-delivered look using gloss paint, a new headlamp and lots of other details. This was a cosmetic restoration, meaning 1000 is unable to run, and is just a display piece for now. However, that doesn’t mean 1000’s future isn’t bright.
In this video, newly restored CNJ 1000 is the star of the show in the B&O’s tri-monthly turntable demonstration. We picked this event so you can see all four sides of the locomotive without obstruction.
You can find more information on this locomotive at: www.borail.org/...

IRM is restoring Lackawanna 3000 currently. Not sure if she’ll run or not, but it’s been ongoing for MANY years now.

It's hidden in the back of the North Car Shop, behind Allegheny 1604.

A true piece of history, and as The History Guy would say, it's history that deserves to be remembered

It certainly is a piece of history, and it’s quite a unusual thought that this diesel belongs more to the steam age than the diesel age

I have an HO Scale powered model of this box cab. Model Diecast/Roundhouse Products made the kits for many years. Trying to find a complete kit or working model is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Sure many are found on sites like ebay... but to find an unbuilt , complete kit ?...... hardly, lol .
