@lachlanbold8319 I chose her on my "throwaway" playthrough just to see characters and plot points I wouldn't otherwise choose, and she really has few to no reasons for recommendation in ME2. The Citadel DLC really made her pathos hit home a lot though.

Garrus and Tali know no equal. In ME2, they join up with you despite the Cerberus connections because they know you have good intentions and believe in you, treat you as if no time has passed since the destruction of the Normandy and stand by all the questionable decisions. In ME3, they have the most reasons to stay behind on their respective planets and fight back against the Reapers than others but still they drop what they're doing and follow you into hell. This is why they're my "Running to the beam" team.

@@grunt7917 The difference is, Garrus had nothing left to do on Omega and in fact probably preferred to get away after losing his squad there. Tali on the other hand had reasons to stay with her people. So idk if it can be held against Tali that she didn't join immediately. It's not a good friendship if you ask them to abandon what's most important to them for your sake and it would severely impact Tali's ability to focus and how motivated she would be during the suicide mission.
@@killmonger5097 Liara was the only person on Shepard’s crew that knew Cerberus was reviving Shepard. The others had dealt with Shepard’s death and moved on. When they found out Shepard was alive they joined him.

pretty much the same argument for miss cameo in ME3.
I remember romancing Garrus as a joke, like "haha, I'm dating an alien, because there's no male human option for me." I didn't like Kaidan at all, and I didn't want to romance Thane because I thought it was awkward and tragic to date him. Plus Garrus is my favorite character (I also wanted to experience the romance route of the game). But man, did I fall hard for him, for real, the moment he started talking romance. The drastic change from a badass to an adorable awkward mess, and then husband material. I've never romanced anyone that wasn't Garrus, its hard. There is no Shepard without Vakarian.
And hey, no one else is worthy to love the God of War that Garrus is in ME3
When they do the tango in the Citadel DLC, holy _shit..._ that was God-tier work by BioWare. XD

I'm not a Garrus romance fan, but we definitely had a bromance. It warms my heart to see how many people actually like his romance path. Like seeing your boy find a girl and get married. Heart warming.
That all being said, Tali is best waifu. Keelah Selai.
I also had a fantastic bromance. The fact that on my first playthrough I played Infiltrator all the way from ME2 and really relied on the sniper rifle, made that shooting competition with him in ME3 so perfect...

It's an odd feeling knowing there is Mass Effect content i will never, ever get to see. By that i mean the 2 cutscenes when you break off Garrus' romance and the one where you (god just typing this out makes me feel unclean) cheat on him. Something about Tali always drew me in ever since the first playthrough. There's a weird kind of mix between innocence and strength in her that's just appealing.
It's absolutely criminal that there was never a decent official scene in the games where she took off her helmet and let you really see her face.

Bioware are too conservative in their romances for their own good, they didn't think people would be into Varric (a cool dwarf) in DA2 either, and they haven't expected Garrus or Tali to be so requested so added them in ME2.

In a way, the endings being so abrupt means we'll never really know. But It means you're free to believe it too.
I imagine the perfect destroy ending was meant to convey that shepard survived, and thus, he was free to make it with Tali (if she survived, but if you shepard survived, and so did Tali).
In a way, I don't want a sequel to the trilogy, simply because there is no way they can make it right, bioware is in a creative ruin for a long time now.

My first/true run was with Femshep, and it seemed like a generic romance was brewing with Kaiden...only for my solider Shepard to start falling for Liara after she got all embarrassed after "what? no?" faux pas in the conversation after getting rescued. Seeing Liara's (obsessive) transformation after losing Sheppard and working to get her back cementing the relationship to me. Garrus was the absolute best bud on a crew of many buds. Having Kaiden quietly broach what could have been in ME3 and then seeing him let it go with his head held high was a pretty remarkable nice touch given how things had started. All in all - I never figured a video game would be able to do such a great job of organic relationship (romantic or otherwise) development.

She is far more complex, her backstory showing why. She never been promoted, only stationed in dead end posts. Her first REAL assignment and first time working alongside aliens, was Normandy. All besause her grandfather surrendered to Turians. Going Paragon, she opens up and helps aliens in 3.
Kaidan does nothing. He serves better in worldbuilding when he dies, letting other Biotics have a better life thanks to his memorial fund.
Ashley > Kaidan every single time, even to the point I start playthroughs in 1 and not 2 or 3 for my femsheps.
I remember not playing the trilogy for years because I didn't have access to a console for them, so 90 percent of what I knew about it was the memes. I genuinely thought Ashley would be way worse but she ended up being my first partner when I accidentally romanced her and Liara at the same time and had to make the decision

I will admit that having Liara as my favorite probably does make me a basic ''vanilla'' guy. I don't care. I still love my blue nerd.
Also, while I do love both Tali and Garrus, I don't like to romance them too much because I know they end up together if I don't and I think they're a really cute couple. Even back in ME1 I thought they had great chemistry in the few scenes and elevator talks they had together and if you romance one of them the other ends up alone.
That's the same reason I don't romance Tali. She and Garrus make a magnificent couple and I am totally a shipper on deck for them.

Yeah, same here! My first PT, I romanced Kaidan in ME1, being all "he's so hot". In ME2, as soon as Thane dropped from the ceiling, my jaw hit the floor and I couldn't even speak. Maybe some gurgling sounds. Then, in ME3, I was so nervous when they were both at the same hospital 😝😝 to say my thoughts were "oh crap" is an understatement 😝😝😝

As much as i play Mass Effect, like i'm doing right now. For some reason, i am always on the side of Liara. She showed the most interest in Shepard in the 1st game (be it Prothean curiosity) in the second game, she battled against the Shadow Broker's Forces to retrieve your body so Cerberus could bring you back. In the Third game, she immediately joins you as the New Shadow Broker and teammate. And in the M4 teaser she is the one searching for you again.

I played and beat all 3 of the trilogy and only ever romanced Tali the entire time and only in one game, the others I never bothered. I was VERY upset when I finally got to see what Tali really looked like only to see a BADLY photo shopped only sorta attractive human.

I don’t romance Jacob, but I still don’t get why people hate him so much. Like, the only explanation I’ve seen is that he’s boring compared to the others but… eh? I don’t think that earns him the spot of being the Worst Character to Ever Exist. He’s no worse than Liara was in ME1; the passive whisper-talking literally drove me up a wall in the first play through. At least she got a sense of assertiveness to her voice by the time ME3 starts and started being an actual character above being Shepard’s potential LI.
Honestly, if you don't romance him, he's fine. He's less interesting than garrus or tali, but not hateable. But if you romance him, he actually cheats on shepard between ME2 and 3
@@attano2993 I know about the cheating bit; fandom hated him before that point. The problem Jacob has is the same problem everyone in ME2 has: they’re in an overcrowded roster. As much as I like ME2 and the characters in it, 12 full squadmates including The Illusive Man, Joker, and EDI was just too many to write in the massive crunch time this game was made in. So a lot of the characters in ME2 come off a bit flatter than they did on ME3, where most of them have less screen time but are given twice as much character without needing to be explicitly exposition dumps (ie Samara for the Justicars and Ardat-Yakshi). Even Garrus and Tali suffer from this, with you not being able to recruit and talk to Tali until the second half of the game and Garrus constantly putting you off with, “Can it wait a minute.” If you were like me and wanted to talk to him constantly and had him on your roster early, you just couldn’t talk to him in the first part of the game, and if you did his loyalty mission first, there were only three more times you could actually talk to him, and that was if you romanced him (which I did).
Jacob has the same problem most characters in ME2 do have, but he gets a lot more flak for it for some reason or another. Though, I definitely think someone on staff didn’t really like Jacob; they definitely did him dirty the way he became something of a shoulder shrug by the third game.
Jacob is a badass in the general scale. But the scale Shepard uses has too big of a range to register him.
Liara found her true calling as an information broker, she gains her confidence since then.

I don't think it was done intentionally, Kaiden and Steve are the only male romance options for maleSheps. And Kaiden is the more popular choice, even though I like romancing both equally with my maleShep

@@dorottyapapp I think it's because majority of Fem Shep went for Garrus or Thane, some dislike the fact that he accuse you of cheating if you pursuit other romance, but male felt more naturally as guy who focus on duty to realize what he feel toward his friend who he look up to. It was until reaper attack that he realized, he don't wanna lost a chance to be happy with someone he care for. And gay/bi people can related to that in a way.
