Wow, what a wealth of information. Thank you! The best tip I got is the INFINITY FOCUS feature-I have a hard time focusing in the dark. As I have said, Hasselblad should be paying you for these videos. 😊
I’m late to this party, but I am so glad I found your video! The X2C is my first medium format camera (first Hasselblad too), and I was stunned to unpack it and find nothing but a very bare bones, flimsy, quick start guide, with print so small I literally needed a magnifying glass to read it. Ditto for info on the 38v lens. Considering how much this camera cost, it seems bizarre that Hasselblad would go totally cheesy on the instructions, and just refer you to their website like all the other cheapskates. I’ve printed out their PDF, but at 135 pages, I can’t exactly slip it into my backpack for reference when I’m out and about learning this camera. Your video walkthrough was/is/ and will be a lifesaver. Even reading the official info Hasselbad provided on its website was something of an eye-crossing experience. Your combination of demonstrations, explanations, and examples makes me feel like I may be able to manage this camera after all and maybe even make the most of features I didn’t even realize it possessed! I’ll be back multiple times as I set my camera up. You’re my hero! Thank you so very much!
I just watched this again having watched it twice before - last was 3 months ago. I'm readying for a trip to Innsbruck so I want to be 100% ready. Great tips ! Thanks again.
Excellent! As a result of this video I now understand the considerable potential of customising the X2D and have changed a couple of settings - which has greatly improved the handling for me. It may be of interest that it’s possible to assess the DOF at the taking aperture while zoomed in, without having to hold down 2 buttons simultaneously. Just press the DOF button first and keep your finger on it, then press the zoom button (rear scroll wheel for me) and you can now release both. The zoomed in and stopped down image will remain while you can examine any part of the intended image for sharpness. It doesn’t work if you press the zoom button first!
Many thanks for your comment on using 1TB and non-recommended cards, because of this I am using a 1TB Compact B card without problems from Integral - Ultima Pro X. Many thanks
I'm not sure if it's the camera which is so beautiful with its setting layout or your brilliant tutorial. I think it's definitely both. Just wonderful. Thank you so much for all the work you have put into this video and for sharing your in depth knowledge. Now I want this camera even more as I don't own it......yet!
An outstanding video. This new firmware has considerable improvements to using the X2D. I am new to the camera having switched from Fuji GFX 50s. Thank you so much for all the detail. I do love the X2D menu system but it takes some getting used to. Thank you for all the work you put into this video - made my life a whole lot easier.
Thank you so much for the generous sharing of all your detailed research and personal experience with the camera, I did learn a number of functions which I didn't realise were there. 🙏🙏🙏
Im new to my Hasselblad X2d an I can not thank you enough such an amazing walk through. also I updated to newest firmware and my macro 120mm focuses quicker then it did orignally it was on 1.0 so thank you so much. You have a new subscriber here also :) keep up the great walkthroughs and videos
Hi Math, On my X2D 100c on the 90mm lens, can I simply crop into the centre of the image, for example to 5000 x 4000 pixels and end up with the same sharpness as the original full size image except I now have a more enlarged view of my subject. I want to use the 100megapixels of the X2D to save me the expense of buying longer focal length lenses but don't want to sacrifice the great Blad quality of the images. Is his a feasible option or is there a better method. Thanks Math
Great video! And I don’t even own an X2D yet! Question: if the 1TB internal SSD goes bad will Hasselblad replace it? If the camera is under warranty I’m sure they will but if the camera is not under warranty I wonder if they will? The reason I ask is the Apple won’t replace an internal SSD in their Mac computers. I hope Hasselblad will replace it. I’d gladly pay for that.
This is truly an excellent video. Hugely informative. Many thanks for sharing and for your efforts. Would be great if you did a landscape focus stacking video as some comments on the Hasselblad forum suggest that there could be some issues?
@@mathphotographer That would be great. If you do then it would be great if you could pick a subject where the nearest point is just a few inches away and the distant point is at infinity. Many thanks
I’ve just watched this video again and, having just received my new 38mm V Lens (thanks to Paula at Linhof), am even more impressed! A really excellent job and I just hope that everyone who owns an X2D watches it. There is so much to learn! Many thanks Math
Hello, just to let you and others know that when I started using my X2D I used a Lazard 128gb silver card, and at times it would just stop working. Now changed for a scanbisk and all work very well.
Thank you for this fantastic tutorial on this camera. My question is when creating profiles, do you have to save each customization to a profile individually or can you set up all the features you want then save one profile for those settings? (hope I am making sense here)
thank for these. You showed how with the V lens the control ring defaults to exposure compensation. non-V lens, like my XCD 4/21 dos not have a control ring. Exposure compensation is something I do by looking at the meter. It would be useful to see your view on this. In other modes, you see exposure compensation while in M you see the composure meter. On my Nikon I have a button for E/C and it also displays a value on screen. This video was really useful. It's shame that you cannot rename the profiles!
I wish there is Crop mode to switch very fast (one button click) to simulate different lenses, so with 20mm lense -> 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm for example. Would be perfect for street photography.
Hello for me your are the reference point as far as gear and objectives analysis. I am an Hasselblad recent aficionado. What do you think about the 28mm new XCD lens? Specially as regard to sharpness? Regards Patrick
Bro, can you do a video on practical tips of how to increase / what to do to increase/ increase which situation will increase the focus accuracy / speed using X2D.
Very helpful tips and tricks. I wonder how to set focus to infinity (‘M’) while pressing the exposure button will always refocus before actuating shutter?
Great video. Thanks. One thing I can’t understand is how do I see through the EVF when shutter F is down to 22 or more. It’s completely dark and can’t focus any image! Am I missing something?
I wanted to try my Schneider apo digitar 80mm lens with a helical ring on an x2d and a message appeared that the lens was not recognized. How can I fix the problem?
Can you please help me, what kind of trigger unit do I need to buy to use Off camera flash on the X2D? Must I use one of the recommended flash units or can I use a Godox XPro11 trigger with a Godox flash unit? many thanks
You have been my bible to go to on the Hasselblad X2D 100c, thank you for your valuable information. Q - How to you get the Histogram to work, I have been struggling to find to click on it as its greyed and won't give me the option to tick.
This is really nice and a hell lot of work! 😅 Thanks for putting the effort into this video and cheers from Berlin. PS: On a different note, how do you feel does the Summilux 35 compare to the XCD38 in terms of image output (or the Lux 50 compared to the 55)? Asking for a friend 😂
Thanks Mahdi, appreciate the kind feedback. For Hasselblad shooters I recommend the XCD 2.5/38V, its a great lens and has autofocus. For shooters who rely on Leica-M and Hasselblad-X, the Leica M-lenses provide a perfect companion. If you compare directly the Summilux-M 35 and the XCD38, they have a different Field of View when shot on Leica full frame vs Hasselblad X2D sensors respectively due to an 0.79 crop factor when you switch from medium format (Hassy) to full frame format (Leica). But of course, when both lenses are shot on the Hasselblad X2D, the Field of View is almost the same, 35mm vs 38mm, and both lenses provide sharp, crisp and colorful images.
Awesome video, but maybe you know , why my AF touch not working ?, I had enabled it, only focus point moving but not focusing when touching, any idea ?, please help me on it, MF focus touch working fine.
Greatly helpful video - thank you. Has anyone encountered the XCD 55V lens control ring not working as a custom button ? Could it be a firmware update issue with the 2.0 version ?
Another great “instructional class”. Thank you. I am wondering why Hasselblad does not allow us to name our custom profiles (6 different profiles here are hard to remember when I use multiple cameras). Do you have any info on whether Hasselblad will work on that?
Good point! In other cameras we can rename these profiles which would be helpful. Let's see if Hasselblad comes up with some additional setting here. My guess is that they work on more important features currently like live view in Phocus tethered shooting and on more autofocus features like tracking and face recognition.
I am looking to purchase the X2D, but have some questions. I will mainly be using it for landscapes and storm timelapse's. How well does it operate in lowlight conditions, for example shooting lightning at night?
That is a good question because I was wondering why Hasselblad kept the 14 bit as default when it (User Manual) says the file size is the same on both 16 and 14 bit. I mean why would anyone buy an expensive camera and not take advantage of the better feature? Thanks
great source of informations. i can add : on the xcd 65 2.8, the "lens focus minimum assigned.." works but the infinite focus doesnt.......With techart adapter to use canon lenses, the crop mode 3:2 is always grey out so no way to use it, and you can t use the ibis of the camera. It doesnt work. let s wait a techart firmware update. And for custom assigned button, why the hell did they forget the "delay". I assigned the delay on / Off to a button on my x1D but i can t on x2D.
27.19 i thought the histogram is based on centre weighted, spot, centre spot metering area only, it's not related to the focus point location? Not sure why there is no exposure metering of the whole image, i heard it is related to the leaf shutter design.
Hello, I have just taken delivery of my very first Hasselblad being the X2D with 90mm XCD lens. I can't cure camera shake even with stabilisation turned off and secured onto a tripod. The focus is also off. I have used a Canon 5DS commercially for 9 years and this new camera is a frustrating disappointment to this moment. Any tips ? Thanks, Damien
Thanks for that detailed informations. At 40:35 I assume the full sensor data is retained and the crop only a matter of settings like cropping in e.g. LrC, isn’t it?
I have assigned a custom button for “focus to infinity” but as soon as I trigger the shutter, it refocuses. Other than placing the lens in manual focus after finding infinity, is there a way to make the lens remain focused to infinity?
@@patrickmolloy6994 Yes, thanks Patrick. For some reason, I had it stuck in my head I had to push/pull the lens to set to manual. Forgot I can simply tap the rear screen.
Has anyone in the X2D 100C community had the issue of once the camera gets warm from use the menu button on the bottom right hand side of the screen at the back of the camera stops working? This just started with my camera, it’s only 3 months old.
Thank you for a great review. I have always used the 150mm on the older film Hasselblad. What lens is comparable for the X2d? The 38mm would seem way too wide for head shots. Thank you.
The X2D offers the larger sensor but the BSI 60MP sensor of the Q3 is also fantastic. Generally speaking, the Q3 offers more for money, is in my opinion the best Leica camera currently available. The X2D has these four advantages: medium format sensor, more resolution 100MP vs 60MP and, most importantly, the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution which brings colors to shine :) And the X2D is a system camera where you can exchange lenses. So the preference depends on what you need.
@@mathphotographer I had the same question too. I got Hasselblad and are willing to put up with the short-fall because of the Hasselblad Color! Otherwise, I would have gone with Q3. Thanks.
I have both - I like the Q3 sometimes for the slightly wider FOV, and it's stealth and speed. BTW, the $64,000 question is now the new Phase One XC, which costs..... about $64,000! 🤣
If portability is high on your list, the Q3 is first choice. I got the X2D but am somewhat missing the stealthy feeling of a smaller body and lens. Also, from my experience from a short trip to Venice, the X2D body already got quite some scratchers and dings - something that never happened for me before as I am really careful with my gear. The Leica bodies are more robust imho. 😅 Looking into an M11 at the moment, even though it’s output certainly is not better than the Hasselblad- but I take my X2D less out and that means less pictures in total…. 😢
Excellent video, Math. . Did you resolve your XH 0.8 converter Ibis issue ? AFAIK, it should work. Has Hasselblad been informed ? I don't think you would have missed inputting the lens focal length into the camera ? Regards.

PS: All I said does not matter much if you have more than one camera. I am trying to reduce to one camera and lens combo and hence the back and forth…
After this video and others the choice between the new Q3 and Hassy D2 seem to steer me into direction of M262...
:)
How nice if we can change the name of the profiles, instead of profike 12345
Excellent video, Math.
.
Did you resolve your XH 0.8 converter Ibis issue ? AFAIK, it should work. Has Hasselblad been informed ? I don't think you would have missed inputting the lens focal length into the camera ?
Regards.
No - I always put in the focal length when working with adapters :) I need to try it again, thanks for reminding me.
@@mathphotographer hi, any answer yet. My X2D arrives tomorrow and was awaiting for your confirmation on HC lenses and IBIS with the converter, before buying the converter. 🙂
Please we need more videos on the leica q3
On it 😊
Next weeks you will see a series of instructional videos on the Leica Q3.
