Cheap Penny board carving and pumping

  • This one is a cheap non original Penny board that I put softer cone bushings in from Paris trucks and flipped the upper cup washers upside-down so that they don't restrict the upper bushing movement. This resulted in extra lean for the trucks. The idea was to make this board nimble for 8-year old kid but I also liked this setup and it didn't wheel bite at all.

      Hi Enzo! 👋🏻 Thanks a lot for your appreciation! 😊 Indeed, making a video tutorial on carving is a good idea 💡😃 because I see many people don’t use this fundamental skill and I already have some methodology after teaching quite a lot of people. You know, I’m not a professional youtuber but I’ll try to film it properly 🎥 Thanks for this idea! Such feedback really motivates me to do not even smth useful but what’s being asked. I’ll try my best to publish it on the weekend 🤔👨🏻‍🎨

      Hi@@gwendolyncheong8889
      I actually gave up on a penny, i bought a proper cruiser which was much easier to carve.but i didnt stop there, i went and bought a Pantheon longboard. And it became my evryday board.but still
      Penny is so tiny, it can fit in a backpack. Hve a great day!

    this is amaaaazing!! i can carve but only real big curves Dx i've been trying to learn to carve tighter and pump, and you make it look so easy! i'll try imitating your body movements to see if i can get the hang of it 😁 amazing skill!!

      Thanks so much! 😊
      Let me give you few tips 😉. Think of pumping or tight carving as if you’re riding a swing - on a swing you shift your body weight to amplify the swing motion in the same direction the swing moves. Similar principle works on a skateboard - think of the trajectory your board will travel tilted and you have to dive with your body into that curve putting all your weight on heels or toes. If you’re making a tight turn your body shouldn’t delay - it has to turn synchronized with the board. Otherwise your body will get twisted blocking the further turning. So first of all you get rotation momentum from your body turn, secondly you stay aligned with your board which is evidently so important.

      @@olegeau oh wow thank you so much!! this is really helpful :OO specially about the timing and alignment of the body and the board, i can see that's most likely what makes me lose balance or speed and prevents me from carving tight 🤔 i'll keep this in mind from now on 😊

    Which bushing are you using?

    • @olegeau

      Hi 👋🏻 I’ve put stock black cone bushings from Paris v3 RKP trucks. I don’t know the duro, actually you could use any soft bushings. VENOM bushings are cool and they have all duro range in their lineup. For kids or below 70 kg weight 78-80A bushings are preferable. And not locking the bushings by tightening the kingpin nut is important.

    So your telling me I can do allll that on my 20$ penny?!? Wowww

    • @olegeau
      @olegeau  3 роки тому +5

      Hi Mariam! 👋🏻
      Not all Penny board copies are the same, of course. Usually 15 USD boards can't be ridden at all, while 30 USD Pennys I’ve seen were good enough like this one.
      Often it helps a lot to change bushings to better ones like Venom Supercarve 78A. They cost 8-10 USD. Another cool tip is to flip over the upper washer, so that it extends the upper bushing freedom.
      So the budget of a rideable Penny is about 40 USD. While sometimes Original store makes sales and offerboards for 60 USD. I think this is the best option because original wheels feel much better and the trucks are much more solid.

    Hello Oleg is it hard to pump on a pennyboard? How lond you were learning to pump until you catch the right technique?

    • @olegeau
      @olegeau  8 днів тому +1

      @@RussianTroll-ie6gr Hi, it’s subjective whether it’s hard or not. It’s just like on any other skateboard or longboard. Pumping surfskates is much easier. For traditional cruisers you mostly want to use your back foot to dig into the carves. It’s just like riding a swing. You just need to catch the resonance. It depends on your riding skills. If you can carve quite aggressively it could take several trainings to be good in it.

    Is this setup still good for fast straight cruising ?

    • @olegeau
      @olegeau  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Jod! It depends on a rider. I can hold a board without wobbling on any setup up to about 40 km/h which I think is already very fast for Penny. Anyways I always stand for nimble setups that steer well but people often tighten the trucks to feel safer. I think the more you increase your carving skills the faster you could go on lose trucks as you use your feet strength to hold and control the board. Not just standing relaxed and fully relying on the trucks.

    Have you ever have wheel bite?

    • @olegeau
      @olegeau  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Haleman! There wasn’t wheel bite on this Penny although I replaced the bushings to softer ones and put upper flat washer (actually flipped the stock cup washers). If there was wheel bite I’d either flip back the cup washers so that it’s edges would touch the hanger blocking the further lean or I’d have used extra risers to increase the clearance

    • @olegeau
      @olegeau  3 роки тому +2

      There’re some Penny copies that have lower trucks. I don’t recommend them but risers likely would solve the problem.
