At one time Christianity was a sort of mystery religion. Only priests could read the Bible unless there were special circumstances. If you read the Conan novels Mithra is mentioned quite a bit. That's not a mistake because Howard believed in the mystical.

It's nothing short of a historical tragedy that Pupienus wasn't a widely beloved and successful ruler. Entirely because it'd be really funny if historians had to talk about how great Poopy Anus was.

I think the best modern equivalent of a mystery religion would be Scientology, though a lot of their secret teachings have since been leaked. Probably a good part of why we no longer have mystery religions - information has a habit of getting out.

Really good point, I always forget about scientology but it is definitely the closest thing we have! Thanks for watching!

could it be that roman soldiers sent to the East picked adopted mithra belief and then brought it back to Italy and then started the religion? that might be why the religion seems like it comes from Italy?

That is one of the theories out there and I should have mentioned it. Right now I think that may very well be where our evidence points to! Thanks for watching!

I think they got to Briton and Ireland realized how many warriors they had. Propagated a false victory out of a skirmish and left
