The company that developed this game follows me on Twitter.
I could not be more blessed.
Nikkcade Haha. Do you even know the name of said company?
@@tarantinoish Treasure? You bet I know. Big fan of Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga.
You lucky bastard
Same tho
Could you ask them a question about the voice effects is there any way to port the game with the studio sounds instead of the muffled sega sounds for this and alien soldier
Seven Force is one of Gaming's all-time coolest bosses
And hardest. Fucking hell, i still cant beat him.
lay lover
On Normal mode he isn’t so bad. But the herder difficulties... *oh no.*
@@amso7169 Crab force in hard mode....the nightmares 😫
the greatest most graphically impressive boss of the 16-bit era
can you play gunstar heroes 3 players?
29:56 Not the boss we deserved, but the boss we needed
Seven Force was one of the most time consuming fights I've had as a kid, a real test of endurance that one. If you play on any of the lower difficulties you only get 3 or 5, so you'd want to play on the harder difficulties for the best experience
Also Smash Daisaku has the best voice hands down HEHEHEHEHO
One of the greatest sega games in history, hands down!
I wish there was a remake for this!
will jace Same here (and before anyone replies to my reply, no, Super Heroes is a SEQUEL)
Well, there's the Xbox Live Arcade version that you can get for $5. (That's how I got to love Treasure, let alone first play this game in particular)
Well, technically there is, Gunstar Super Heroes for Gameboy Advance.
@@mrmadmothy1121 didn't know remakes were considered sequels nowadays.

- All right boss. The team came up with seven different ideas for this boss battle. Which one do you want to use?
- Y E S
This video reminded me just how many mini bosses this game had. I was surprised at the hour length until I see you did the entire dice maze.
4:24 Soldier Force -> Urchin Force -> Tiger Force -> Tails Force -> Crab Force -> Eagle Force -> Blaster Force
Treasure has created both of my most favorite Genesis games, with Dynamite Headdy first, and Gunstar Heroes second. Both had amazing gameplay, bosses, level design and slight touch of oddness. Bravoo Man and Melon Bread are my favorite bosses, despite being so simple. It's a shame that the player annihilated them so quickly, since they have pretty cool movesets, and just movement in general, (Especially Bravoo Man). Plus, the concepts would be reused in other Treasure Games (Melon Bread into Alien Soldier, Core Guard System into Dynamite Headdy etc.)
They worked on Wario World also right? Those were a great blend of bizarre and cool bosses. Not all but a decent amount of them 😄
don't forget Mischief Makers!
I see the inspiration Cuphead took from this. This game is very challenging, yet so fun, and full of memorable moments and bosses. I played it, and loved it.
Cuphead Took inspiration from Headdy. (Which is also a game about a character with a weird head just like Cuphead). It’s made by the same people that made gunstar, and is also a boss rush style game (like cuphead)
Don’t fret about Green. That bastard has so much HP, he’ll probably emerge out of this with a couple thousands still remaining.
1:51 The guy driving this tractor machine looks like Kim Jong-un.
An hour and ten minutes of just bosses. That’s incredible
Wha... that guy swings himself from a copter's rotor just to attack you??? Talk about dedication
Also you can easily toss him off the helicopter, but he can just as easily toss you off it!
It's never a good idea to get closer to him.
You could really see ghe blast processing in this game. I don't think they were SNES games that ran this smoothly.
Correctamundo
Exactly right. In an interview with Mr Maegawa (President of Treasure) he stated that He tried developing games like Dynamite Heady and GunStar Heroes for the SNES, but then gave up because the SNES's processer was too dang slow. These kind of 16-bit games required a lot of computational power from the CPU, Faster Bandwidth, Bigger Memory Bus & most importantly *Blast Processing.*
@@afronautexplorer144
More like *Blaster* Processing, considering Blaster Force is pretty fast in Expert Mode.
Whoever's playing this game is a total beast
The only bosses that could ever make me throw my controller across the room are Smash Daisaku, Super Gondala, Vortex Base and Curry and Rice.
Fucking Curry and Rice, bane of my childhood.
Im so unlucky that I never ever got into dice maze without facing curry and rice
Oh man, I love this game so much ^^
It was always funny to me, that after so many fights with all kinds of army vehicles, the most awesome fight was against Orange.
I beat this game a couple months ago for the first time, and I loved it! I'm a big fan of classic run and gunners, I found that out through Cuphead, and I've been playing a bunch of them ever since. Contra, Megaman, and of course Gunstar Heroes. Without these titles I wouldn't have thought of creating games myself, so I gotta show at least a little respect for these titles!
Childhood favorite and still 2 this day 1 of the best game to ever touch the screen....FACTZZZZ!!!!
As a SNES fan, I have to say this is one of the highest quality Genesis games I've ever seen. Treasure was pretty much Sega's alpha-male developer; you can tell they put a lot of effort and thought into their games. This game really flexes the Genesis' sound muscle too, something the SNES is more known for. If all Genesis games were even half this good, the Genesis probably would have won the war.
My only issue is the boss concepts seem to be random and based upon ideas collected during a mushroom trip.
I was a fan of both, and had both systems. I wouldn't say the SNES won when it was in direct competition with the Genesis at all. Each system had its strong points, but SNES got some awful ports of some great games, Mortal Kombat and Pit Fighter come to mind right away. Mortal Kombat gets a bit lambasted on SNES since it was edited. Sure, the SNES had the better graphics of the two ports, but the Genesis was a better playing experience. And Pit Fighter on Genesis was true to the arcade... the SNES version was so abysmal it drove me to save up my allowance and go get the Genesis version.
I'd say the only real way the SNES can claim victory is that Sega shut down the Genesis abruptly to pour support into the ill-fated Saturn. One day it was going strong, and SNES and Genesis were enjoying a great rivalry, and the next, Genesis was dead. Since Nintendo continued support of the SNES for a lot longer, I can see how people claim Nintendo won that counsel war, but I think there was a lot of life left in the Genesis, and Sega was foolish for cutting off their greatest system to try and get to the 32 bit market so quick.
It really was a shame. Both systems were great. And honestly, to this day, besides a handful of SNES games, I go back to my Genesis more often when I want "the feels." But, I do agree with you on the sound! Sega didn't do well on that level at all, I'm looking at you Rock N' Roll Racing! Hahaha
@@kstaats13 La razón del sonido es porque querían que sonara como una Arcade de la época
Staatus Quo
I agree with you 100 when Sega stopped support for Mega Drive / Genesis to move on to Saturn it was a shame as you said the Sega MD/GEN still had move to give but there are still new great games being made now Demons of Asterborg , Tangle Wood , XenoCrises and many more to come I love that I can collect new games for a console I grew up with and love
One of my absolute favourite Genesis games! By the same creators as Dynamite Heady))
Btw in this video, he is playing with the hardest difficulty level, hence the length boss energy levels
19:12 This boss reminds me of both Small Soldiers and Battleground from the miniseries Nightmares & Dreamscapes. (Although the latter story was originally published in Night Shift.)
The melon bread boss ( 20:04 ) also appered in alien soldier!
Melon bird?
⊙_⊙
@@tgg1033 I ment to say melon bread , I typed to quickly
@levi doneson yeah I know, it's nice that the dev's sorta pay homages to older games, like the constellation boss is a reference to the boss from contra hard corps, because it features the same constellations
Nice run on an awesome game.
Anyone else notice that each successive form of the Core Guard System is easier than the previous, when one would expect harder.
Game was great, but honestly, Seven Force is who made this game so much fun. I was never good enough to beat all 7 forms in Hard mode....just too many fights in a row. Crab Force was a freaking beast...especially in hard mode.
SN: I used to run close to Soldier Force to make him slide....freaking cool seeing him do that
It seems that more than the other Gunstar Heroes, green is the most interesting of them all. Even though he's a villain that sacrificed himself eventually for the greater good.
He was a good guy, just mind controlled.
15:02 The airplane rotates counter to the clouds, it's not true rotation but it's still 2 different things rotating. The SNES can only rotate 1.
1:29 Whoa Hanson Sanson and Grandis From Nadia secret of the Blue Water!♡

Mangosteen just got his butt kicked in
I love this game so much. It's especially good with 2 players !
Great stuff! Golden Silver is insane on Expert.
this game was so awesome:D

50:08 if they have voices, while reading there lips, looks like they saying
Come on!, Come on!
As to taunt you to come here lol.
4:15-4:20 looks like Team Pink's blasting off again!
I missed this game. It's been over 20 years but, I still remember it. Fighting Seven Force in all of the multiple robot forms was a real suckfest.
Still... One of the best Sega Genesis games of all-time. One best games of all-time, period.
Chaser + Lightning is the worst combination to use in Expert Mode, IMHO.
But well done in utilizing it effectively during some of the boss fights, despite the damage reduction. Especially against Seven Force.
SaviourV I found it best to use on bosses and on expert mode somehow
Omg, you beat the second stage boss (the seven force) without even taking a single hit. What a feat there! (Because most people WILL get hit once, by one of his forms). Doing a no continue run is possible on hard, but this? Trully awesome!
the concept for the black beat stepper would have been so much better if he was invulnerable through dice rolls and the walls switched patterns between attacks, he's such a pushover as it is
The chaser and lighting together are so over powered
You know, if the core had just remained in the background, you wouldn't have been able to hurt it. Effectively, it destroyed itself.
14:50 This guy reminds of the Captain (?) from the Metal Slug series, only without the excessive taunting.
You know: “Come on, boy!” “Go home to mommy!” “See you in Hell!”
O'Neil?
Allen O'Niel you mean
Allen O'neil, that bald bastard with a m60
An HOUR of bosses?! DAAAANG! That is a LOOOOOT!
4:46 Waat? They reused this boss that was in Alien Soldier? Or do they just share a name?
And just like in Alien Soldier, Seven Force takes longer than the final boss.
Treasure: Calling creepy mini-bosses Melon Bread scene.... whenever this game was made. Also... Treasure likes to have re-occurring bosses don't they?
And seven force force again! Why not?
Damn, missed on a lot of good games when I was a kid.

I don't see how you beat Melon Bread so easily. He is the hardest boss in the game. Worse than Golden Silver. You are too good at this.
Amazing job man. As always :)
One of the BEST fucking games *_EVER!!_*
Best compilation ever even after all those years.
There's something to be said about certain video game sound effects that have a profound effect on a person. This game had plenty, but by far, one of the most haunting of them all (for me, it still haunts parts of my memories) was Tail Force's Hypersonic Spin sound effect. It was also used as Green's Counter Force move, where he absorbs your shots.
Anyone else feel the same way?
46:59 Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding
A great game with a sad, illogical and unfair ending.
How so?
Golden Silver flies off after being defeated, and gets chased by Green and Red. (I’m going after Red’s story, not Blue’s.) In the ship, all of the weapons have been destroyed, leaving no true way to finish off Golden Silver. Green apologizes for putting the world in a chaotic state, and smashes into Golden Silver. Green dies from the explosion and Golden Silver was destroyed. The Gunstar Heroes returned to Earth.
@@amso7169 yeah but green somehow survives and returns in the sequel, Gunstar super heroes, though I'm not sure if that game is canon or not
@@Fireafyanimations299
If I remember correctly, Super Heroes is supposed to be a remake/reimagining.
@@amso7169 thanks for answering my question if the game is canon or not, so it definitely isn't a sequel or a prequel and instead a remake of the first game, also because green is dead, **attempts to go and revive**

Jesus Christ how many this robot he have 😵
This game has incredible boss design.
My boy MDHR Studios have inspired strongly on the 14:20 boss for the CupHead dlc
It’s funny how Melon Bread try to sniff at Red like a dog or something.
melon bread and final great soldier are hands down the best bosses in the game

Game:... Wut?
Great title of Sega, but god, it's by far the game with the longest non-optional boss fights I ever saw.
nice glad to be back
Here we go:
7 forces were more time consuming
But...
Curry rice and minion soldier were more annoying
This game still to this day it's a model of personality (e.g. the characters, especially the trio inspired by Yattaman and Fushigi no umi no Nadia) and creativity (so many different enemy and level mechanics). One shining gem from Treasure!
I was scared when I saw Melon Bread.
fun fact destroying a complete seven force gives you 77777 points
Should've been 7 sevens
Okay, since Cuphead was inspired by this game, I'm gonna come up with Cuphead-style interpretations of the bosses in this game.
Papaya Dance - an apple tree; drops giant apples, out of which come giant worms that crawl across the screen to attack the heroes
Bravoo Man - a horde of sentient crates coordinated to move like a humanoid
Pinky Roader - the mast of a ship comes to life and detaches itself from said ship; in the crow's nest at the top is a sniping pirate, and sometimes the mast grows arms to bring the sniper closer to his target; there's also a cannon up in the crow's nest, which the sniper will use to fire sentient cannonballs that follow their target
The guy with the transforming robot - A shape-changing blob of ink; starts the battle by hopping out of an inkwell, a la Koko the Clown
Swapping Reg(?) - a snake with a head on both ends; each head will sometimes spit venom at the ground as an attack
Orange - a circus strongman, fought on the wings of a biplane-slash-helicopter flying machine (possibly inspired by that old black-and-white footage of failed flying machines)
Valvalion - an angry millipede, basically
Timeron - an evil hourglass
Minion Soldier - a tiny or stumpy version of those flower enemies in Forest Follies
Melon Bread - Already has one: Mangosteen.
Pit - a room full of sentient balloons and a...car jack, maybe?
Phantom - a monkey throwing explosive coconuts, maybe? Has a bird companion that flies around the screen and attacks
Vortex Base - a team of round creatures ricocheting/passing a projectile between each other? I dunno
Curry and Rice - a statue with boxing gloves (because you're not supposed to use projectiles in this battle) in a room full of explosives
Abarenbou Gel - an ooze, like Goopy Le Grande, but drops explosives instead of throwing punches
Super Gondola - either a flying pirate ship or a big aircraft; has big cannons either way
Black Beat Stepper - some of King Dice's old minions that you didn't fight in Cuphead; the one leading the charges throws dice at you while the others use their respective attacks; there are red demons that breathe flames, skeletons in green cowboy clothes firing Gatling guns (the bullets ricochet), blue sharks blowing exploding bubbles, and yellow snakes spitting lines of venom
Smash Daigaku - war-obsessed bat soars (because cartoon logic) around the screen dropping bombs, then when his wings are too full of holes to allow him to fly, he starts using firearms (or magic?) instead
And that's all I have the patience to do. Anyone wanna take over?
in the dlc, we got ourselves the cuphead version of curry and rice.
the knight's fight from king gambit
