"American" cheese is a very specific type of cheese, a processed cheese. It's very common to use it on burgers. Of course, we do use cheddar, mozzarella and all the other cheeses like anybody else.

Yeah american cheese is a type of cheese, not "americas chioce of cheese. But american cheese is the preferred type of cheese for burgers. It just compliments better than most "legit" cheeses. I sincerely doubt UK makes good cheese fries. A milky "fake" cheese is far superior for making a cheese sauce.

In case you're confused by the fact that they make a lot of Korean references in their videos. Josh and Ollie channel started in Korea making videos about Korean food and Korean culture. They run 2 channels "Korean Englishmen" and "Jolly" Josh speaks Korean fluently and still covers a lot of the food and culture on the first channel and it actually has a lot more subscribers than the Jolly channel, I recommend watching both channels though because there's great content on both

"American" cheese is actually a combination of several other cheeses (including sharp and mild cheddar) that are heated to their melting points and blended together and then allowed to cool back to a solid block. it's then usually sliced. This process (making it a 'processed cheese') is done in order to create a cheese that has a lower 'melting' point and that 'melts' in a much more even and 'creamer' way. thus you don't get melted cheese with lumps and oil all over the place...
IT IS NOT AN ARTIFICIAL CHEESE like many people like to claim... AND if you can get the American cheese straight from a farm that creates cheeses it's wonderful, but just national store chain bought cheese isn't usually very good.

In N Out is WAY better than McDonald's just so you know. The French Fries are made fresh at In N Out. You can sometimes see them cut the potatoes in the potato cutter in the back. That's how fresh they are.

Things must have changed. I've lived in Southern California since 1966, but have only been to IN-N-OUT twice, both times in the 90s. Each time I thought the fries were terrible.
I handled their insurance for several years back in the early 90s, and made my complaint to their broker, who told me they were working on improving them.

  • @dougbowers4415

My standard is a double-double animal style with grilled whole onion. Then an order of well done animal fries.
Onion choices are raw onion either chopped or a slice along with grilled onions either chopped or a slice.
Animal style is mustard on the burger while it’s fried, then it has extra spread, pickles, and grilled onions. My order substitutes a grilled onion slice for the chopped onions.
Animal fries are covered with cheese, spread, and chopped grilled onions. I order my fries well done so they’re extra crispy allowing them to stand up to all of the toppings on them.
The spread is similar to thousand island dressing.
American cheese is used because it has a lower melting point which makes it perfect for burgers.
Essentially they’ll make your food any way you’d like* as long as they have the ingredients to make them. They only charge extra if additional cheese or meat is involved.
    * They won’t make a burger rare or medium rare due to health regulations. They also limit the size of the burgers to a 4x4.
In-N-Out employees are extremely friendly. They make several dollars per hour more than other fast food workers. Their managers make over $100k.
In America we have all of the cheeses that you do plus a couple of processed cheeses that melt more easily. Velveeta is used in sauces, particularly for nachos. American cheese is used for burgers.

Being that I’m allergic to gluten, if I want a burger then I’m getting it as either a tomato or lettuce wrap. It’s not because I’m trying to be trendy or that I enjoy it over a bun, but it’s because I’d like to enjoy some sort of normalcy when dining out with friends without getting crazy sick 😂

  • @WhatDayIsItTrumpDay

Lettuce wraps are actually pretty good. Instead of the carbs you get with the bun, you get the fiber from the lettuce. Hardee's had a lettuce wrap years ago, and I had it at least once if I recall, and it was good. A bit messy though, but that extra lettuce crunch that you miss from getting soggy lettuce leaves on the burger is much better.

In-N-Out's success doesn't come from gimmicky products or a complex menu. As you can see here, they stand on simple product using the best ingredients and processes as possible. Meat isn't frozen, potatoes are cut and fried fresh, all veggies are fresh, and they use actual ice cream for their shakes. They even explain all this stuff on their paper placemats.

As more and more influencers talk about secret menu items, they are becoming less and less secret and becoming main stream. It won't be long before they just go ahead and put them on the menu. Lol 🤣
Protein style burger is a double double cheeseburger but instead of two buns it is wrapped in iceburg lettuce. For those who wish to eat fewer carbohydrates. 😮
The only secret menu item I order regularly is the animal style fries. While they peel the potatoes there in the store, then put them through a French fry press, then wash them in the sink, then fry them. They still taste like fries you would get anywhere.
Even if they are not frozen. But animal style where they add caramelized onions, burger sauce and a slice of American cheese on top. That you only get at In 'N Out. 😅
As far as cheese goes I prefer cheddar for a cheeseburger. But most places only offer American cheese. Unless you go to a restaurant like Red Robin or Marie Calendars where you can customize your burger.

American cheese is processed cheese that contains sodium citrate (and a few other things) which is an emulsifier. It keeps the cheese from breaking when heated so it melts into a smooth and creamy texture instead of oily. You can add sodium citrate to any kind of cheese and it will do the same thing. It’s just an emulsifying salt.

When you drink a root beer float, you can't let it sit. They needed to stir that up before trying that's why it was nothing but root beer at the bottom. Some people don't like American Cheese because it's a processed cheese product and not 100% cheese but it works so well for so many of the foods we eat. It's not terrible at all but it's not cheddar, swiss, fontina, etc., good.

If I'm not pressed for time, I'll order a 3X3, mustard fried, no lettuce, no spread, no pickles (standard mustard fried adds pickles) with a whole grilled onion slice. As for the secret menu, there are some limitations just because of the reduced ingredient list they stock. A basic double-double has two meat patties, two slices of cheese, tomato, lettuce, and the burger spread. You can add your choice of carmelized onion bits or a slice of raw onion. Animal style takes the basic 2X2, then mustard fries the patties, adds pickles, caramelized onions, and doubles the burger spread. The caramelized onions sit in a pile on the grill, cooking in the fat from the burgers as they fry. Usually pretty good, but they can sometimes be a little overcooked. You can also ask them to grill you up an onion slice, as mentioned above. This won't be raw, but it won't be as fully carmelized as the ones in the pile on the grill. You can add chopped chilis if you want a bit of extra spice. Basically, if you can think of some way you'd like your burger or fries to be cooked differently, they'll probably give it a shot.

the 'secret' menu is just their ability to make special order items using the existing stuff that makes their 'normal' menu items. for instance, a 4x4 is just 4 hamburger patties and 4 slices of cheese... or like they have vanilla, chocolate and strawberry milk shakes, so a 'Neapolitan' shake is the three of them in one cup.... it's not really 'secret' items, just special orders that have become popular over the years, but aren't how they're usually made, but since they are very accommodating to their customers, they're willing to make the special orders on a regular basis...
one of the more unknown special menu items is the 100x100.. it's a special order and you have to give them a heads up before hand. it's 100 burger patties and 100 cheese slices in a 'trough' container.
My order is usually a double, double, monster style with monster style fries.

I live in Colorado. In-n-Outs are pretty new there. I have yet to go there. Californians absolutely rave about the place, but everyone I know who's been there who isn't from California says, "It's just a burger and fries. Nothing to write home about."

American cheese slices are not what we normally think of as cheese. Sure, we might stick them on a hamburger because they melt well, but we love all sorts of cheeses, such as cheddar, Swiss, & provolone, among many many others. Check out Tillamook Cheese from Oregon for some great cheese made in America.

American cheese is a kind of cheese, so when someone says american cheese it is not all we have. if you go to a grocery store they will have hunderds of varieties of different cheeses. American cheese is used on hamburgers, it is called cheese food. it is not to am. cheese is the cheese we have for all of our cheese.

In and out vegetables are incredibly fresh. It makes their burgers taste much fresher in that regard. Their lettuce is usually very crisp and tasty. Thats said, I hate how they do their fries. Also bacon is not an option which is criminal.

My go to In-N-Out order...#1. Double-double, animal style with grilled onions and chopped chilies, animal style fries, and Arnold palmer drink.
Even though they are made fresh (vs McDonald's frozen pre fried fries) In-N--Out fries by themselves are trash and McDonald's fries are 100x better. If anything, you must get them made 'animal style.' Asides from In-N-Out's secret menu, you should also check out McDonald's, KFC, Jamba Juice and various other American fast food places secret menus in the UK and in the US.

The In N Out protein burger is wrapped in chilled, crispy lettuce and is delicious! I like mine with cheese, chilled, fresh tomato, chilled pickles, minus the raw onion. Animal Style is an extra sauce that is very delicious, along with frying the hamburger patty in yellow mustard. You can order the French fries to any level of crispy that you want. In N Out costs slightly more than the standard McDonalds or Burger King but I think it is worth every penny. Do your homework online about the "secret" menu before visiting In N Out. It's not such a secret menu anymore.

American cheese is just a specific type of cheese. It is made to be cheap cheese and not fancy cheese whatsoever. People use it on burgers, sandwiches, and nachos. It's kind of a bar food cheese. It has cheese in it but isn't really "real" cheese. Not sure how to describe it to someone who hasn't had it. I love it, but it is not a normal cheese. Softer texture wise, and a mild cheese but with a lot of flavor if that makes sense.

American cheese is made for melting on top of things and put in sandwiches. It's not bad cheese, but it's not meant to be top quality. I think it's made more to be consistent and melt in a predictable way.

The tomato wrap and protein wrap are my go-to whenever I go to in-n-out. I’ve given up carbs for the most part, and they’re so satisfying and I don’t feel as bloated after. They’re really good for people with gluten allergies or dietary restrictions.

    • @fangirlalliecat
      @fangirlalliecat Рік тому

However! Whenever I have a cheat day, I go all out and if you ever go, order a double double, animal style, with chopped chilis inside. Also order a side of whole chilis to bite into and squeeze the juice on your burger bun and all over your fries. Get the neapolitan shake for sure. While good, I find the animal style and cheesy fries unnecessary if I’m having an animal style burger (which is always).
Anyway, in-n-out started in Southern California, and as a SoCal native, we’re very proud it. It’s SO fresh and even though it’s fast food, I never feel guilty after eating it. It’s so nostalgic and reminds me of summer nights hanging with friends or after being dead tired after a beach day.

Wow that's crazy about McDonald's in UK bc I noticed the same thing over here went to McDonald's a few weeks ago and the fries were soggy here to. They must have changed how they are made company wide. Also in and out is absolutely one of the best fast food places around without a doubt. They also let the ice cream melt on root beer float why it looks odd. Root beer is freaking delicious as well

The average person, here, knows about the "Secret" menu, it's not really a secret. The lettuce wrapped burger, AKA the Protein Burger, is what my husband gets, because he's diabetic and can't have carbs. Also, there are many people who are on a Keto diet that order them (same goes for the tomato wrap). If you think these are big burgers, Northern California has Nations Burgers and they are even larger. We do have great cheese but this is fast food cheese not regular restaurant quality cheese.

American cheese is a type of cheese (like Swiss cheese). There is REAL American cheese which is pretty good but most of what you find in the grocery stores is Kraft Singles (or other brands) which is "processed cheese food". It's made of oil rather than milk and cannot call itself cheese. That's what gets the bad rap. It has kind of plastic-like texture. You have to look for the Kraft Deli singles or actually go to the deli section of stores to get the real stuff.
