I've always hate when people compare the US biscuit to scones. They aren't the same thing at all. Hell, we have scones in America, at least in Ohio where I used to live we had them in a store called Meijer. Scones are denser and sweet. Biscuits are buttery, salty and savory and fluffy on the inside. Two different things entirely.

US Biscuits are fluffy on the inside w/kind of a crispy outside -they are buttery and savory. UK Scones are denser, with more of a crumbly texture and sweeter. They are different for sure. I would not want a breakfast sandwich using a scone, but breakfast sandwiches are fantastic when using a biscuit.

Scones in the UK are often quite different from the dense, crumbly, triangular things you can find in a U.S. coffee shop. As with biscuits in the US, there is a wide variation in scones in the UK - and what most Americans think they know scones to be is not a fair representation. Many scones in the UK are very similar to US biscuits, and they are virtually indistinguishable from US drop biscuits.

When America thinks of scones, we see them as having the dryness of a baked dirt clod, and the same general texture.
One bite into a scone sandwich would cause it to collapse into your lap.
(And then down by the seatbelts, since we eat everything in the car.)

Don't knock them until you've tried them. (Not neccessarily McDonald's ones though). Buttery scrambled egg/sausage mix on a warm tortilla wrap?? OMG so good!

      "hydrogen dioxide" = H2O = "water".
btw BHA and BHT, which are preservatives, are perfectly legal in Britain and not required to be listed. They have been shown to be carcinogenic IN LARGE QUANTITIES, far larger than you would ever ingest in a normal diet. It's reasonably safe.
The law here in the USA requires them to list the actual specific scientific name of the compound. So, where they can just put "soybean oil" on the British one, in the US one they are required to list out all the specific components. It's exactly the same, just more detail is required for the US label.

Scones here in the US are deep fried dough. We usually take them after frying them and put on butter and honey (or other sweet stuff). A biscuit in the US is actually baked flaky dough and is dryer then a dinner roll. They are usually flat on the top and bottom. The MacGriddle bun is sort of like a pancake that has been buttered and syrup on them, but your hands don't get sticky. The shakes used to be much better. Now they just squirt chocolate sauce in vanilla soft serve ice cream and mix it up. Same goes for the strawberry shake as well. Not as good and not as big and costlier.

"Hydrogenated Soybean Oil is soybean oil (from soy bean plant (Glycine max)), which is liquid at room temperature, that has been processed by adding hydrogen to make it more saturated."
oh no, so scary to add hydrogen! We ingest hydrogen all the time; two atoms of it are included in each molecule of water. 🙂
Guaranteed McDonalds in both countries has that. Just the US label is required to break it down like that, and the British one is not. 🙂

THANK YOU! THANK! Nobody goes to McDonalds to eat healthy! Anyone that says they do is lying or kidding themselves!
I’ve had scones and our biscuits are soft and fluffy in the center, and crispy buttery on top. THAT is not a SCONE! You need everything you can to give flavor to a scone and you are bloody blessed if it’s not hard. Meaning it’s fresh.
Keep telling you my friend, Come on Over! We have Plenty of room and we’d Love to have you! All the youngsters will gush over your accent. It will be Great!👍🏽

People go off the deep end with nonsense about our ingredient labels when they are simply more strict about every little thing they have to list. Chemicals are not scary. Every single thing in the universe, including you, is made of chemicals. What matters is what the chemical is and how much of it is safe to consume.

My biggest McDonald's disappointment was in London. I was 16 yo in 1980 and went to England on a school trip. No offense, but we all thought the English food was terrible (much improved now I hear). We were hungry most of the trip...lol! Than my friend confides that there is a McDonald's in London. At risk of penalty, 4 of us snuck out of our "chaperoned" hotel room and hired a taxi to go to McDonald's. Our first impression was that it looked like McDonalds and it smelled like McDonald's. I ordered a Quarter Pounder with cheese. I bit into it and immediately knew something was wrong. I took off the bun which had a pink stain on it (!). I could not imagine what this was. After a bit of disassembly, I saw that instead of a pickle slice (gherkin), there was a pickled beet on my burger. Horror! I'm pretty sure no one in the U.S under the age of 90 eats these! I laugh now, but I remember being downright angry that the Brits did this.

the real question here is how the percentages of obesity higher in non-u.s regular takeaway eaters vs Americans. It's also just another little culture shock between the two of just how much crisps and chips brits eat... or the outrage if you don't have enough crisps or variety of them when hosting a party. Though about the same demands on liquor and spirits.
