So great to see you healing nicely JJ. Thank you so much for continuing to give your invaluable lessons despite being on the DL. We are all so fortunate for your efforts & graciously sharing your vast knowledge and exceptional talent with us. And I’m right there with you about Paul. Thanks again and continue to feel better! Cheers, mate.
I was just singing this song today while I was walking my dog. I started to think is this really a good song. As a kid I used to love it! But is it really good. Well the answer is of course its good! It may not stand up against many other Beatles songs or even other songs off Let It Be. But it doesn't have to. If you like it, its good and thats all that matters. Thanks for posting it. Hope you get to see the new Peter Jackson Get Back movie.
I love the let it be album... Oh ...what the heck...I love em all.😀 This song is one that is near and dear to me...thanks James..you've done it again..get well soon man...
Glad you've recovered. I lost the ability to play, after spinal injury left my right side paralyzed. I struggle everyday to try to recover movement in my right hand, and I'm not going to give up. I could never play, even close to the way you play James. I'll be happy if I just get a little movement so I can do a little strumming. I hope you keep posting videos, because I love the way you teach and the way you now every one of your covers.
Great to see you playing again! I’m sure George isn’t actually playing this, but in terms of the full band arrangement the chord that hits on “Road” in the opening line is definitely an Ab chord with Bb in the bass. Classic Motown ballad chord, which is what the song owes its debt to.
Lane Miller; Absolutely correct, Lane, it's definitely Ab/Bb. Also, and this sound like i'm niggling, but there's Ab, Abmaj7 to Ab (it's the orchestral thing, but it's there) to Gm then to Cm. One more thing; after those Fmt/Bb to Bb7 it goes to a 1qt fret Db with an Eb on top,-- a kind of half assed Bbmin7. This takes nothing and I mean NOTHING away from JJ's playing of it...only egghead maniacs sitting in their closets would be able to tell. I've learned SO many songs from this man you've no idea! My laziness makes me say, "Ahh, I'll get it from JJ. I can't think of a better by ear guy who gets it RIGHT ON.. Furthermore, I was just watching his "Space Oddity" and he blew me away with playing the Fmaj7 without the C and the effect is unreal! It captures the WHOLE combined spacey vibe. He's the tops.
Welcome back! There's an interesting profile of McCartney in last week's "New Yorker," and a piece by Paul himself in this week's issue, mostly about how he came to write "Eleanor Rigby."
Glad to see that arm swinging! Hey, off topic but if you didn’t see (you probably have) that article a couple days ago Faroutmagazine about the Zep song “so difficult to play they refused to play it live” or something to that effect (no spoiler check it out. Interesting, there’s a live version link which backs up the article ha ha. A quick search and not surprisingly there was play through of yours. Thanks! I think I got this, now to tackle on the acoustic. ;) Recover well!
You had a long time to think about the 1st tune on your come back. As it was surely a long and winding road back. Btw - I love the old English blokes showing some virility and taking shots at each other. Like they have been doing since their early days.
I love your videos man, I know you don’t make them anymore but I hope you’ll see this. Can you explain how you hold your pick when strumming. It looks like you hold it with your thumb and middle finger.
I think that second chord -- the Ab -- has a Bb in the bass, which gives it a dominant function, i.e. it works like a Bb chord, sending you back to the Eb. It recurs in the same place in each verse.
Yes. It should be capo’d at the 1st and played: X-0-6-5-4-6 Trying to “George” this one on a guitar with no capo makes that “money chord” impossible to properly finger.
JJ, isn't there a 7th (on the Eb ) before going to the bridge part? Not where I can hear the song right now, but it seems that they added that usual 7th . Great job as always. I didn't know you had been down with surgery. Edit: no, you right.
Yeah you are right, it may even bee the orchesta in that version putting in a Abmaj7. It does work in there kind but probably George is not playing it. THANKS.
for someone reason there have been Paul haters since the days of his late 70's into early 80's transition and has carried on. For Me; I'm a Beatles guy first, and foremost. Then John, then George, the Paul, and well Ringo has some moments. Give My Regards to Broadway is a fantastic album. Band on the Run is a masterpiece!! Band on the Run is head and shoulders above any Beatles member's solo release.
James I was watching one of ur old zep videos and saw a comment where u said that HTWWW was heavily overdubbed. Wondering what your opinion of the show on the Zeppelin 1 album deluxe reissue is- Oct. 10 Olympia theatre Paris 1969. Are there any overdubs on that official release?
HTWWW isn’t overdubbed, it’s edited. I believe the Olympia show is also edited, but no overdubs. I enjoy the Olympia show, but Jimmy is mixed way too low. Waaayyyy too low.
James James Ugh, hate edited shows. Was bummed to find out the beginning on since I’ve been loving you on TSRTS is edited, as it’s my fave Jimmy sequence. Unless I’m wrong about that
Have you watched the Get back mini series yet? Its pretty damn impressive. Really gives a lot of insight into how they wrote songs together, and also delves into the drama between them. Someone even went as far as to mic a private discussion between John and Paul about George leaving the band and their grievances with each other. I wonder if Paul approved them adding it to the series. Sorry if a bit irrelevant to the video, youtube doesnt allow direct messages anymore.
@@jamesjames9275 True. Im surprised they even left what they did in with Paul getting heavy handed and egotistical. The invasive, but serious talk with John about their egos, and john not liking paul shooting down his ideas was cool. He was kind of an ass to George, but later he was more encouraging to him, and seemed interested in Old Brown Shoe. Even though there was a lot of fighting, they seemed a lot happier than i imagined recording together at that time. Seeing the cherry les paul and rosewood tele in video, and in color that much made me fanboy.
Thanks for the lesson! Paul is a God. Some people just like to complain. BTW, I hate to admit it, but I like the Phil Spector version of Let it Be better than Naked. And I loath Phil Spector. But his version of Long and Winding Road is just so much better. Cheers from Los Angeles!
The problem with the Spector versions is that I’ve heard the original ones (even on bootlegs going back 30 years). When I listen to the official release of Winding Road, the overdubs sound pasted on, which is exactly what they are. But even terrible production can’t ruin this song, which is brilliant.
@@jamesjames9275 There's a chord progression on the Spector version during the interlude that almost makes me cry. It's replaced in Paul's version with some jangling chord strikes that I think are just awful. But everyone has different tastes.
Now you are starting to get me mad. Where do you get these shirts?? A Halloween Stones shirt??? I didn’t realize how lame my rock tshirts were until today. Thanks
I need to go back and listen to the Beatles entire catalog. So much musical brilliance and nuggets to be discovered.
Our boy is back on guitar, and in full Stones kit, right down to the 70s Tele Custom. Glad you're back James!
Paul is our Mozart; I have admired him since 1966. No shame here.
Thanks James, really love this song and to sing it. I'm so glad you're back in action. What would you tube do without your lessons.
Paul is one of the, if not the most prolific song writers of our time! He never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for all the videos and lessons!
I'm with you..Paul is the best.
Keep up the GREAT work.

This song gets slammed by so many people but I've always thought it was beautiful. Thanks for the run-through on guitar.
How do you slam this song?
Never ever tire of The Beatles. Simply the greatest
Welcome back James!
It's good to see and hear you playing again!
I'm looking forward to more gems from you.

Thank you man I've always wanted to play this!
Me too, I always thought it would be too daunting, but with James it seems more approachable.
If you haven't seen the McCartney/Rick Rubin series on Hulu...you' probably love it. Not a history lesson, it's a music discussion.
Just finished Get Back. Cannot wait for your review!
Awesome
Welcome back! There's an interesting profile of McCartney in last week's "New Yorker," and a piece by Paul himself in this week's issue, mostly about how he came to write "Eleanor Rigby."
100% agree on Let it Be Naked, it’s far superior. The only thing I didn’t like was the alternate solo on the song Let it Be. Also, Paul is the best.

Love it. Not sure my pinky can move like that though. Where do I get one of those index finger pinkys?🙂
Bionic shoulder.
Good to see you strumming that 6-string again!
Cm7 is the relative minor of Eb, that's why they are basically the same chord
True. Cm7 is the same notes as Eb6, so the Eb is in there.
Great to see you playing again. Don't overdo it.
I love your videos man, I know you don’t make them anymore but I hope you’ll see this. Can you explain how you hold your pick when strumming. It looks like you hold it with your thumb and middle finger.
Usually thumb and middle finger. But sometimes I use my index finger. It's a mood thing. :)

@@williammccarthy5248 George didn’t use a capo on this. You can see the actual recording session in the Let it Be movie.

Where did you get that Stones t shirt? I can’t find a match anywhere online
JJ, isn't there a 7th (on the Eb ) before going to the bridge part? Not where I can hear the song right now, but it seems that they added that usual 7th . Great job as always. I didn't know you had been down with surgery. Edit: no, you right.
So you're alive!
Yep..good to see you …. that song will definitely knock the dust off one’s moveable chording…
Is that Tele brand new?
Hes back!
Your guitar and T-shirt are a perfect match! Not exactly Fab Four but perfect, nonetheless. Great video!
Great job . I hear a Abmaj7 right after the Ab, where he sings "thaat"( two syllables). It could be the piano though. Thanks.
I hear slight differences between what George plays and what Paul plays, little variations on the chords. George seems to play it fairly straight.
Yeah you are right, it may even bee the orchesta in that version putting in a Abmaj7. It does work in there kind but probably George is not playing it. THANKS.

Hi JJ glad you're back ! may I suggest a capo on first fret, would make it easier ... :)
I didn’t think it was difficult without a capo.
I have both Let it Be albums ( Original and Naked) TBH, there is very little difference to me,BTW glad to see and hear you again
Some of them are different takes of the song.
Nice lesson jj as always. New tele?
He's had it for a while now, I think he did a video about it specifically when he first got it.
Hey James, ever played a Gibson Studio or Tribute? What do you think about them?
I owned a Studio, but that was 30 years ago. A fine guitar, but 8 prefer a bound neck.

For a new player, it would probably be easier to downtune guitar to Eb.
Seems overly acrobatic to arrange the guitar part without the capo on the first fret. Plus, it makes the Ab9/Bb nearly impossible to play.
Play it however is easiest for you. But you can see in the Let it Be film that George plays it without a capo.
@@jamesjames9275 I wonder why he did. The Beatles were no strangers to capoes
