      I absolutely hated my x52 the throttle it's utter garbage I would recommend the t16000 over the x52 all day as a my first stick. My x52 throttle crapped after the stick on my t16000 crapped out. So while I wait for my vkb to come in I'm using a t16000 throttle with x52 stick that setup works and is good but of I were to do it all over again I'd get t16000 throttle off Amazon and vkb stick direct from vkb.

    The thing you didn't mention is that you got the standard version of the VKB. If you buy the premium version, you get an analog stick that replaces one of the hats, a hat for your thumb on the side instead of the simple button, and an extra index finger trigger.
    You also forgot to mention that the hat switches have a push function in addition the directional movement.

      @@KvltKommando I would say if your setup only includes one joystick, it's worthwhile to get the premium version for the extra inputs. I'm using the X52 for, who knows how many years, that clunky movement is one of my complaints too.
    Seeing some impressive action by other virtual pilots with VKB sticks led me to this video.
    How do the flightsims like DCS, FS2020 and IL-2 handle this stick? do the buttons and axis get recognised right away or is there some software / programming required?
    Cheers from Holland!

      @Simenthusiast  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Willem, The main reason i changed from the x52 to this was because of the clunky movement in the x52. Honestly, it's 100% accurate for all those simulators. I love using it for DCS, it has so many hats! FS2020 is fantastic, and so is elite dangerous! All the buttons were found right away in all three of those sims, and i was up and running after assigning functions. I did not have to use vjoy, or even the vkb sim configurator. Below is a link to my final review, and im planning to do some looks at DCS and FS2020 videos.

    • @Simenthusiast
      @Simenthusiast  4 роки тому +3

      The deadline between these 2 sticks is night and day, even though they can both be set to 0 deadzone. The biggest factor really is how much more accurate and noise free the Gladiator is when centered. If you ever look at an input graph of the x52, at center it's usually bouncing all over the place, which makes the x52 feel sloppy and imprecise. The motion in the center on the x52 pro is also kinda of bad, with lots of motion required to break the center plane. Hope that answered your question.

      I know this comment is over a year old, but I just wanted to point out that in my experience the rubberized plastic grip of the x52 is one of its biggest downfalls. It was a great common fad on gaming peripherals at the time, but after a few years of even just sitting on a shelf they break down and get covered in awful sticky oil. I had to scrape it all off and cover the stick in baby power just to use it again.

    Damn I saw all I needed in the first 50 seconds lol. I'll watch till the end though. 😉I didn't realize the size difference between the two. You're 100% correct. The NXT looks more conducive to being used like a stick. I had an old Saitek and it looks like Logitech continued the size tradition. I sometimes didn't use it like a stick. I don't even know how to describe it but I'd let go of the stuck and push buttons individually sometimes because it just didn't feel like it was meant to be used one handed. The only thing I've used the mode select dial for is changing between autopilot modes in the A-10C. Had to remove all of the software enforced mode bindings first and save that as a custom profile (that way each position acts as a normal button), but it works for that sort of thing. The worst thing about it is that you need to take your dang hand off the stick to be able to use it! The dial isn't grippy, requires a fair amount of force to rotate and has fairly long way between positions, so adjusting it quickly with your index finger isn't really doable.

    • @Simenthusiast
      @Simenthusiast  4 роки тому

      I actually hate taking my hands off the stick, which is why im so happy with all the hats on the GNXT. Now to work on getting a throttle with more buttons.

    • @jubuttib
      @jubuttib 4 роки тому

      @@Simenthusiast I feel you, though to be fair in a plane with systems as complex as the A-10C, you're expected to take your hands off the controls quite often, unless you're right in the middle of an attack. Too many switches, MFDs, UFCs and CDUs to operate. That's why the autopilot is there. =)
      On the throttle subject, if you want to keep things budget oriented, I have had great success with the Thrustmaster TWCS. Can be had for 80-90€, has a pretty long throw on the single throttle (no detents though, though many have modded them in).
      For axes, in addition to the main throttle axis, it has a centering "rudder" paddle you can use for various things (I tend to use it for lateral thrust in space games, and occasionally I find a use for it in flight sims), an analog x-y stick for your index finger, and a single pinky wheel axis (cockpit zoom, trim, mixture, or something like that). Total 5 axes.
      For hats, your thumb has 3, one 8-way and two 4-ways, for the index finger there's the analog stick with push button, and for your middle finger there's a 2-way hat. Total number of hat "buttons" 19 (not counting the analog x and y axis here, but counting the push button on it).
      For buttons, your thumb has 1, your ring finger has 1 and your pinkie has 1. Total 3 buttons. The two buttons for your pinky and ring finger are especially great for using as modifiers, for getting more functionality.
      That comes up to 22 "buttons" and 5 axes. By comparison the Warthog's throttle handles have 4 axes (two throttles and x-y stick with push) and I think 27 "buttons", so for roughly 3rd of the price it's not too bad.
      It's not perfect, fully made of plastic and it can have some stiction to it (sorted by re-greasing), but for the price I haven't seen anything that can compare. The CH Pro Throttle is a good 60% more expensive with similar functions (24 buttons, 3 axis), Thrustmaster Airbus throttle is unsuitable for combat sims, X52 throttle can't compare (I have one, it's just on the floor, a way to plug in my X52 Pro joystick at this point, which I'll soon replace with this VKB I think...), X56 comes as a full HOTAS and costs more than a standalone Warthog throttle, and then we get to the high end like the Warthog throttle, Virpil etc. which are really expensive.

      Honestly I don't like the warthog. I own one. The grip is really nice and ergonomic but the base is horrible, prone to stiction due to poor moulding/design on the plastic gimble.people sometimes sand them down and regrease them to solve this, also the spring tension is ridiculously high and it feels like there is a massive bump in the middle, a popular upgrade is using the grip on a virpl warbrd base as they are compatible and apparently the feeling is night and day,or you can buy a green spring kit that can help a bit but it's quite expensive for what it is.
      also one of the internal screws in the grip can come loose from time to time do you have to pull the grip apart to tighten it or you will have a little bit of play in the stick as you go to move it too,

      I am a former user of a X-52 hotas, and now I am using a Gladiator K Premium (not the Gladiator NTX but the special edition only sold for a few months and plenty of buttons on the base of the joystick) and a TWCS throttle. Hey, great review. I've ordered the VKB Gladiator. However, I did not know that the X52 Pro throttle could be used stand alone without the X52 stick. How does that work? • @Lorenzoooo

      The joystick has a cable that connects to the throttle. And the throttle has another cable that goes into your PC. So you can just disconnect the cable that connects the throttle nad joystick and just plug hte throttle into your pc.

    My old x52 died when Microsoft killed window's 10 ability to see it as a device..... Since then I jumped up to a TM t16k setup with rudder pedals and throttle.. The pedals and throttle for the most part are fine but the build quality on the stick is abysmal. So I'm looking for a new stick. This might well be a straight replacement for the stick I have. You completely forgot one of the main features of the X52: the twist rudder!
    If you need or want a twist rudder, this makes the X52 a lot more suitable. On the other hand, if you DONT want a twist rudder, even though you can "lock" it in place, it rocks a tiny bit back and forth, so the VKB is a much better choice.
    For someone looking for an all in one solution, with a twist rudder (great for space sims) and throttle, the X52 can't be beat.
    You just have to lubricate the base
    I've used my original X52 for a long time and lubricated it is very smooth and precise and has served fantastically in all the X games and flight sims. For space sims, I like it a lot more than non twist rudder sticks, because with the higher freedom of movement in space, the twist comes in super useful

My X-52 I've had a long time, granted...but all the rubber had to be scrubbed off. All the plastic bits squeak and it is WAY too finicky around the deadzone. Give a few years, and you will regret the rubber feel in the X52 Pro, once the cover turns into a gunk. I had to remove the one from my X52 a few years ago, both from the stick and the throttle, is shinny rubber now. But I don't use it often, since I upgraded to a full CH hotas set at the the end of 2014, that it is vastly superior. My X52 is from the first year of production bought it in 2005, before madcatz.
    I also have a Speedlink Airrow (VKB Gladiator OEM version), and although it as a higher resolution than the CH, I end up prefering the later.
    Both VKB and CH are more reliable options than the warthog, from what I have learned, and Virpil is top notch to.
    The only problem with the CH is the old feel, and the gimbal, i like it, but many people don't. Even if it has only 8bit resolution I still find it very precise, more even than the airrow that has 4 times the resolution. The light springs help a lot. If VKB or Virpil had a "viper grip", like the warthog or the CH Fighterstick, I might buy it, since I'm not a fan of using the warthog grip in a VKB or virpil base, because the grip is made of zamak that is much more brittle than the industrial plastic used in CH gear.

      @@Zgmflegend it could be durable, not speaking to the durability of it. I've only owned the gladiator for a month, so don't know how durable they are. IMO, hard plastics don't feel nice to touch, and I would've preferred a softer touch material, maybe still plastic. I'm not a stickler for "realism" so it doesn't have to be metal, or hard plastic, but remember IRL you usually have some kind of hand pro that can aid in taking some of the edge off the grip.

    my x52 just died so I'll be moving to the gladiator and a thrustmaster TWCS throttle

    Your comparison gives me confidence.
    I've been rocking the x52 for a few years now. I used magnet mods and an anti-slop ring mod to improve it. I'm currently taking the fight to the Thargoids in ED and I know the stick is holding me back.
    Yesterday I ordered the NXT and Twcs throttle.

      @@Simenthusiast The stick is a joy to fly with. Super accurate, lovely centering springs. The finger switch above the trigger is super useful. Ive hit it every day for 6 months and zero problems. The Twcs is not registering z axis very well though just recently.

      @@Simenthusiast quick question. how does the NXT compare to say a t16000m setup for dualies?

    • @Simenthusiast

      @@Kilted_Dragon Sorry dude, i don't really know the answer to that. I've been meaning to pick up a T16000m but right now prices are high and stock is low. If i were a betting man though, the NXT likely has a more comfortable grip. However, the NXT is like 2x the price of the t16000m. You could always go dual NXT!

      Manonmars, i kind of agree, it does sort of look a prop you'd see in a budget scifi movie. However, it has that 3 mode switch, and throttle all for like $150-$200. Right now though, prices are out of control.

    The Gladiator Pro version has analog sticks you can put on the top. Two more buttons for your index and has a "secret" button on the Fire.

    I bought the premium version for 12k rubles. Arrived in an intact box without a single dent. after assembly, it turned out that the iron stand is bent, and the joystick is wobbly. After a long correspondence with VKB support, I sent them a plate for straightening. The plate came back....AND HE'S FUCKING WOBBLING AGAIN! ONLY IN THE OTHER DIRECTION BL$#$#$$#!!!! I did not expect this from such a seemingly well-known and reliable company...
    Not only did I not use the joystick for a month, they also released an updated version of gladiator a couple of days ago!
