Allora forse ti farà piacere sapere che libera me fu composta in morte di rossini nel 1869. Solo dopo, nel 1874,verdi la integrò nella messa da requiem.
Anja Harteros is so magnificent on this sublime piece ,makes me cry with her dramatic voice . Monsieur Barenboim is so energic, strong and give us a gift that I am so thankfull about. Madame Gheorguiu, Leontyne Price , Renata Scotto are amazing all at this. MAGNIFICENT !!!!!! UNSPECHELLES each of them in their way ( I think we cant compare, Elles ne sont pas amateurs).
I wish Mozart had done a rendering of this- it’s by far one of the most moving parts of any Requiem, and Verdi perfectly captured the feeling: “free us, Lord,” and while the Verdi and Mozart requiems are in many ways the compliments of each other, this is an example of where one clearly shows supremacy. That said there are times where both easily trump their competition. Mozart has the better Kyrie.
Verdi: Requiem - 'Libera Me' (2) Anja Harteros (Soprano) Elina Garanča (Mezzo-soprano) Jonas Kaufmann (Tenor) René Pape (Bass) Chorus & Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala, Milan Daniel Barenboim
Guleghina would not sing this as well as Harteros. Maybe in 2001. Sharon Sweet was one of the best singers of the end of the 20th century, but she retired long ago. Harteros isn't that bad in this!!
Guleghina at the Met last year was very out of tune as turandot, and she still had the top notes but she needed to push them hard. I don't think she has the piano required for the Libera me anymore. She was an excellent Tosca maybe seven years ago, and her Abigaille was also great in 2002, but today, right now, it doesn't have the finesse anymore. It would be wonderful if Sharon Sweet came back; I just wasn't aware she was performing anymore. I thought she teaches full time and that was it
Just because there's a microphone doesn't mean it was used for amplification during the performance. All recordings require the use microphones to capture the sound, and most place the microphones up close to create a better recording.
Poor observation and a pretty naive comment of yours! This was recorded in a concert hall and for that, one has to place microphones in the orchestra....and yes, her voice can fill an opera house, rest assured! Just wonder, if you have ever been to a life performance in an opera house.
Wunderbar !! Grossartig !! Gänsehaut pur . Danke an ALLE 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I cry everytime I hear this Libera Me.
Thank you 🙏 So great to know I'm not alone ☺️🥰

The look of Garanca at 1:31 is priceless 😂
Anja Harteros note did not take

I completely agree! Mozart does have the better Kyrie, but Verdi's Libera me is superior...for me personally.
Direction Barenboim infallible !! Solistes "Magiques" !!
Quelle belle retenue chez Anja Harteros....!!
Sublime !!!!!!
Libera me, lo más lindo de este requiem

Gheorghiu, even Renee Fleming is much better than Anja in Verdi's Requiem.
VISTASofALDEBARAN Gheorghiu maybe yes, Fleming NEVER.
She made it with the freaking microphone, I wonder if she can make with without any amplification in the opera hall
