My second ever band was with a guy who was 31 while i was 18, the drummer who was my friend was 16 at that time, the 31 year old guy teached him so darn much! (how to play death metal blastbeats way more thighter and faster for example) Good luck and have fun!

Hell Joe Duplantier even played for Cavalera Conspiracy. I agree that they are prog, but they have many groove influences.
I wouldn't call Five Finger Death Punch, Devildriver, Lamb Of God, Chimaira or Exhorder Groove Metal. Groove Metal is Pantera, Soulfly, Sepultura (Roots and Chaos AD), Prong, Helmet, Biohazard, Skinlab, White Zombie, Fear Factory, Ministry, Nailbomb and Lofofora. Machine Head have some Groove Metal songs but they also have some Thrash Metal songs.
Slayer could also be from Groove Metal because his voice is just like he could put a [Trash/proto Groove] on his voice and just like that I'm satisfied 🙂🙃🙂
FFDP is what I call Top 40 Metal...not dissing them at all, Its just that they get me to the edge of my seat...then I sit back and enjoy them like a fine orchestra.

I would argue White Zombie should be on here. They were at the core Groove Metal. Thunder Kiss 65, Black Sunshine and More Human Than Human should be the best examples of this.

Not all of of it was groove metal some of it was melodic death metal and metalcore. Groove metal is amazing. The metal I mostly listen to is metalcore. Pantera has got to be one of the best groove metal bands that existed.

I miss the groove in early Gojira. It's a shame that they let that slide out of their style. Songs like Flying Whales, Remembrance, Blow me Away You(niverse), Backbone, Space Time. But I guess they would more qualify as death groove than groove metal.

Slipknot are techincally part of the new wave of American heavy metal, haven't been Nu metalish since the 90s early 00s. But I guess you could say heavy/groove metal, fuck even some songs have thrash and death influences like GET THIS (thrashy) or GEMATRIA (death influence)
White Zombie are definitely groove metal and should be on this list. As for Slipknot, people have called them Nu-Metal and all that, but they are also groove metal, albums like Self- titled, Iowa, All Hope Is Gone and We Are Not Your Kind prove that.
