Julia, I love all your videos and this is where I come when a new Sony lens gets released. Thank you for mentioning the lens flares, that's really good to know. I appreciated that you compared this to the 16-35 GMII. Enjoy autumn!
Sony has a wonderful 16-55 mm f2.8 G-Lens. What are the differences between both lenses and why I should buy this lens when I have a 30mm more zoom range with the other lens?
@@juliatrotti That´s exactly what I was going to suggest! 🙂 And I´m pretty sure that Tamron is going to come up with a G2 version of their lense rather sooner than later and i guess that it´s gonna start at 16mm as well.
thanks Julia, i have the e mount 11mm 1.8 but with the current A7IV camera, i remember it crops in, so technically I ain't actually getting 11mm with video or what not. watching this video technically helps because that 16mm-25mm is quite nice for video taking that I have in mind. thank you reviewing this :)
I once ended photography as a hobby altogether with a frustrated sony 6400, what got me back to photography is your videos and especially the amalfi preset, ever since I bought it I am loving it along with a Sony A7 III and a 35mm F1.8 , it has a special aura to it, and its unique from all other mass market presets . . . Now my major issue is that 35mm doesnt do justice when shooting landscape, and I have a special love towards the 24mm focal length, and as a travel lens confused whether to get this new light weight lens or the 24mm GM lens, some advice would be immensely helpful ! Thank you.
Thanks for the nice review, it's fun as always. For a month I was considering whether to buy a 16-35 gm2 ii or take this 16-25 dwarf. The price, weight and compatibility with 24-70 they make more sense to me. what is your opinion on it?
That's a great video, thinking between this and 16-35mm f2.8 or f4. Also how can you preview your camera screen without any external attached cable? Sony camera cannot shoot still while video recording. May I please ask how can you do the camera preview on the side screen while shooting the photos? Thanks
I'm also thinking there has to be a telephoto zoom G coming next. 70-150 is a good guess, although Tamron already have a 70-180 which is more range than that. Maybe a zoom starting at 50mm instead?
I’m gonna need a longer review of this 16-25mm to the 16-35mm GM2 . I have a student discount from B&H that allows me to get the GM2 for $1950 , but still waiting for the edu price for the 16-25mm , I’m thinking it will be about $1050 . Trying to see what’s the justified price for a hobbiest that does paid gigs about 1 or 2 times every couple months . I have a Sony A7IV. Been looking for a good wide angle zoom lens .
I think I am too spoiled with options already with wide angle lenses. I have the Sigma 14-24mm F2.8, Sigma 24mm F1.4, 28mm F1.4 and 40mm F1.4. I don't think I will add more to that.
Hi, nice and informative video! Did you have the chance to get a lens profile for Lightroom yet? If not, do you use another lens's profile or correct it yourself? Thank in advance.
Great comparison with the GM 2, would love to see a comparison with the 20mm 1.8. I own it the 20mm and was thinking to swap with this one for the versatility, I think 2.8 is better than 1.8 for wider angle shots. The 20mm 1.8 is an amazing lese, almost as great as GM. 👀👌
@@pringleboat I already have the 20G so this isn't that tempting to me, but if I didn't have the 20G I could see myself buying this instead. 16mm is a lot different than 25mm and 2.8 is still decently fast.
@@duvalpenny100 9mm is so small a range wouldn't it be better to get a zeiss 18mm and crop in? Or for the ~same price buy a zeiss 18mm and 24mm used? I just feel like all the youtuber reviews are GASholes who are spreading their GAS to poor misinformed photographers hahaha. Like the sigma 16-28mm 2.8 is a lot cheaper, sigma 14-24mm 2.8 is same price, and a prime is just better in 99% of scenarios than this lens. I wish youtubers could criticize and give actual well thought out thoughts about releases like this and still get sponsored...
@@pringleboat I actually own the Sigma 14-24 and it's a great lens but it's heavy AF lol (around 850g!). It's literally double the weight of the Sony 16-24. I could see the appeal of sacrificing the 2mm on the wide end for half the weight. The Sigma 16-28 is a nice lens but since it's not an Art series lens the build quality won't be quiet up to par. I'm not sure I'd trust it in rain or as my only EDC lens. If it were an Art series lens then that would be the clear winner. I think I'd recommend the 20G over this lens, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't love to try this one out. With that being said, I think the best standard length zoom lens is the Tamron 20-40.
For a zoom lens with such short focal range, may as well use a prime, at least you don't stuck with the slow F2.8 max aperture, i guess Sony just ran out of things to do
Thanks Julia! Would love to see an in depth comparison with the 16-35 GM II 📷
Hey Julia, I've got the 20mm f/1.8... do you think image quality-wise, I could replace it with this zoom with no major losses?
Wait!!🤔 filming and shooting at the same time? bottom left PIP was that the pre-capture on the A9iii?

Selling my 24-70 GM II and picking up the 16-25 & the 24-50 !
Why?
exactly what I want to do! the 24-70 is way too heavy with these new compact lenses coming out!
@@enjoygary Its big and heavy. I walk around with the 24-50 on a 7Cii, people don't notice it as much.

That's an APSC lens, this one is full frame
This such a weird zoom length especially for the price you might as well get the 16-35
Closest competition is the Tamron 17-28 f2.8 which I have. Would love to see a head to head 🤔🫣
Yeah and actually we also have the Sigma 16-28mm f2.8 - maybe a comparison with all 3!

I also have the 17-28, but I feel the 20-40 suit my life better in both video and photography.
I want to see a review of a sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 vs the new 16-25mm f2.8 .

Glad you found it helpful, thanks for watching!
24 f1.4 or this which is the best option if you have to choose just one ? Especially for gimbal work & wedding / events?
Turned out great
Thank you!
Can you do optical zoom & clear image zoom?? (Like zooming in to 25mm, then getting a booster zoom with clear image)
Great to watch your opinion again!
Thank you!

Nice video, were you shooting with the lens hood on? I’m wondering if that would have helped reduce the fairing.
Did you test af with A9III only? It would be nice to test with some older bodies too...
Please compare it to the 20mm 1.8.
nice tuto. what about the 16-35 F/4 PZ ?
I’m wondering what’s next in this line, 70-150mm f2.8?

I guess it depends on what's more important to you - size & weight or the extra 10mm in focal length? The GMii also has a better handle on lens flares
Waiting for 24mm F1.2
Very nice ❤❤
I go with Tamron. I paid $400 for my 17-28mm like new lens, thank you.

Bought the 20mm 1 week ago. Thinking about returning it for this zoom lens.
But it is also at least 400€ more where I live. Not sure this is worth it..
Good for group photos
Please make Video about fx3 and also self portrait
Thought that location looked familiar, Everglades house & garden at Leura.
What gimbal were you using in the vlog test ?
I use the DJI RS 3 Mini

Buy a prime and it will be lighter + you wont be one of the GAS dummies buying a 16-25…

Sony offers a lot of lenses, but they are tasteless, colourless lenses and the only ones I want are the old ones.
