Yes my pegs were scraping in a couple of corners. But only slightly because at this point of the season they were scraped off massively already. Which means it takes quite the lean angle to get them to touch down. So at this stage of wear I only manage to scrape lightly. And that's why you don't see any sparks flying :)
Like mentioned in the end I was glad I got this run filmed. I knew I had relatively long arm and legs before. But I seriously didn't expect my knees getting this close to touching down! When riding neutral like this I don't slide left or right on the seat. I always keep the same lean angle as the bike, holding my body in line with the bike. While being 100% relaxed. My legs more or less dangle around freely. This video was visual proof to me that indeed I need little lean to get my knees to touch down. Simply because of my legs being fairly long (watch me, Nadja Auermann!).
I also like how it basically shows the reality of my riding which is how this kind of riding feels to myself: not very dramatic. I can't preach often enough that my riding isn't as fast as some of you'd like to think. I just use the right tools (=ND filter lens) plus dramatized riding movements (=aggressive and sharp steering inputs) to make the riding more pleasant and exciting to watch. Speeding up the footage in post-production would be the simpler option to achieve a similar effect but I usually tend to NOT choose the easy way out when it comes to riding bikes. I do that the rest of my life way too often anyway...

Please excuse the unpleasant GoPro-only sound! This whole video here happened spontaneously actually. I'll try my best to repeat this scenario this season! But since so many people kept on asking for a chasecam/followcam video I still decided to upload this one here!
kein problem ^^
Schaaf hero 5 actually reduces wind and noise. I guess you weren't using hero 5?
+GoPro Man Did you realize that in this video not a single bit of wind can be heard? Because L.A.76's GoPro (I think it was a Hero 4 Silver) was placed behind the Ninja's windshield. The new 3-microphone system plus the weird electronic noise filtering of the Hero5 actually make the wind noise sound a lot worse. Mainly because also GoPro can't change the laws of physic and audio recording. But I had to laugh out loud when I thought of their "reduced wind noise" marketing slogan when listening to the Hero5's audio taken on my bike for the first time. Made my ears bleed.
I've wondered "how did schaaf look like when i heard those peg stratches" so much. Still, great work on that video. Stable camera on a bike make me dizzy but totally worth it. By the way, don't use at your max performance. Keep some to yourself. So you can still have some place when you realised that something bad is going to happen. Didn't know that you had an accident. Hope you are ok and there is nothing to worry about. Love from Turkey. I do feel relaxed when i'm watching your videos. My country made a terrible decision recently and i feel depressed and worried about our future. The air, the view is so damn peaceful. Keep up the good work
Though I didnt test the audio of Hero 5, many have actually praised it and most of them were not using it for motorcycles. It can handle the casual breeze and winds you get when walking around but it would be helpless for the wind noise on a motorcycle and yeah, this video only had the vibration noise, not wind :)
A minute of silence for the time spent to blur the plate number 😄 nice driving as always!
SMoto at least he didnt have to hack the ecu
thank you very much for this compassionate gesture :D
Wee grande anche qui il tracerista
It is very interesting to see your riding style from this perspective. Clear now why you scrape more than I do, and how you change direction so smooth and effortlessly!
thanks Zach!
Dude I have so much respect for you. The way you handle that bike is just amazing. I've always loved your 1st person RAW wideos, but it's even more awesome to see you riding in 3rd person. Many riders try way to hard to drag their knee, and you show exactly why the knee dragging is so over-rated. Keep up the great work! Hoping to buy a CB500 next year as well :D
thanks a lot mate!
Been waiting a long time for this perspective :)) Well done bud!
thanks!
Man, you really know that road! Also, that cb500 does an amazing job.
thanks man
That amount of work done on precisely blurring the reg plate is astonishing.
thanks man, appreciated!
as always nice riding Schaaf !👌..hope you don't mind me asking what was the reason for a crash you mentioned ?
not looking far ahead enough for two seconds and not realizing the road's condition changed from dry to wet mid-corner
yeah I know that one ! 😖
Riiiiiichtig geiles Video!!! Kommt definitiv in meine Playlist :)
Gerrit Aallan Vielen Dank!!
Danke man!
Wow, I've watched a lot of your videos but really hadn't realised what a great rider you are until seeing this - great job and get well soon!
thanks Bob
Absolute respect to you for riding the wheels off that 500. What tyres you on ?
Well done! Amazing how much lean angle the 'basic commuter' CB500 can handle without a fuss :)
thanks! Yes indeed!
Idk man to me this seems faster than your regular videos haha. Looks gnarly!
it's totally sped up because I'm so pathetic you know
I just meant this looks faster than your other videos because you said this looks slower. Faster riding, not faster video ;)
Is it universal tq sign with lifting the right foot. Did other riders understand it? As a newbies, I looked like a angry sign. Glad to this video.
yea most of them understand
R E S P E K T! Was technisch möglich ist!
What tire are you running?
has anyone got the name of this road? i can see the area but anyone got the road number?
help will be much appreciated
I love your riding style. it's quick, it's safe, it's relaxed and it's exciting to see
thanks Antoine!
Endlich!! Mega geil.
What road was this?
I'm wondering, did you ever scrape the pegs of a street triple?
I'm asking this because i have a street triple r 2014 and im wondering how far i could lean the thing over. My body position is probably not perfect at all but i dont have the so called chicken strips anymore. So basicly i dont know how much further i can lean now, since in theory leaning further than the edge of the tire should reduce your grip on the road?
In any case, if you can scrape your pegs on the street triple, i should be able to do that with my bike aswell. So that could be an indicator for maximum lean angle (for me atleast). I really dont wanna crash my bke because i was going to far :(
I didn't because the last time I rode one was in 2011. My skills were not that good back then. But I'm pretty sure I would NOT manage to get them down. The Street Triple has relatively big ground clearance.
Alright thanks for the reply :)
Keep up the good work, your riding seems superb to me! :D
finally the wait is over..nice piecework mr. Schaff .. 👍👍👍
thanks Hakim!
You speak about neutral riding in the description, do you (or any viewer) have a link to an article explaining this, its advantages / drawbacks over leaning more than the bike into the corner? I didn't manage to find anything interesting on the web by myself
biggest advantage to me is that it takes zero effort. I can ride like this all day without getting exhausted.
Hallo
Schaaf could you give me some insight on your riding style you look like you ride bikes using counter lean with more lean angle and you don't seem to move around the bike....very fascinated by your style
There's nothing more to it. Sometimes I rode with more lean, sometimes I did hang off, sometimes I leaned with the bike. Didn't matter on the road, it all gets you from a to b quickly
Schaaf is master of cornering... 👍👍👍
I'm pretty good for UA-cam standards but that's it.
danke, Dennis!!
What tyres do you use?
BT45
Tyres?
Nice video man! Cool driving and a huge "ole!" 4 u to doing it after a crash that is always making difficult to get back the good sensations on the bike!!
thanks Markus!!
Really shows the difference between the CB and a ZX10. The CB changes direction instantly, the ZX was definitely having to work a bit in some of those corners to keep up. The ZX was definitely having to be easy on the throttle, tight road for a literbike :)
it is! I could never move a big-ass literbike this quick over such a narrow route!
amazing driving as always Schaaf, how the hell do you shift directions so fast? I have a cb 500 and it feels so heavy, maybe because you're not using much front brakes and engine braking?
the PC26 is the most agile bike I've ridden in my whole life so honestly I can't really tell what you're doing wrong :)
Excellent driving skills. Almost perfect line on every corner. I personally own a CB 500 with BT 45 tyres and hopefully, sometimes i will be at 50% of this. All thumbs up.
just take your time! Thanks!
Best advertising for the cb500 ever
:)
I wouldn't even dare to take the corners with that lean angle, without hanging of...
I'm sure one couldn't read the lettering on the sides after such a session of riding. ;)
Nice riding Schaaf!
and guess what, the CB and BT45s still could take more :) Thanks Kwak!
Cool to have a third person perspective of your driving, shows it's really not insanely fast (which is a good thing). You just got some real mean lean angles, 10/10 on style! I hope someday you will have a chase cam on the grippy Italian tarmac.
yes that would be even nicer to watch!! Thanks mate! Where did that part with the Ferrari go though? (I know EVERYTHING hahaha) I don't know which model it was but it was an old one so I gave him a hearty thumbs-up!!
Woah you are quick. I removed it because it was going to kind off fall off my edited post. Still loved that Ferrari though ;)
Kalte Kuchl, yeahh! Gewaltig gefahren Schaaf!
danke, Schorschi!!
Quality! Thanks for uploading this! You make riding like a Pro look easy haha.
Something I was asking for some time ago, thanks for the delivery! Your lean is insane!! And looks cool when you don't get of your bike :)
I want to buy Dunlop Roadsmart 3 on my ER6N for this summer, but you are making good advertisement for Bridgestone :D
;)
you should try to get your hands on or something like KTM 990 SMR :) would result into a mad raw run!)
would love to!
Hi Schaaf, can you tell us how you crashed in some more detail please? You said you crashed an hour before. I am intrigued as you are pretty consistent with your riding. Was it too far leaned over and not enough traction? A over confident day? Brain freeze? Or something else? Still loving your videos.
ua-cam.com/video/yvidBaywTcA/v-deo.htmlm27s
Thank you.
Grande!!! Which tires do you prefer? Thanks and "gas a martello., ciao"
Grazie! On the CB500 I exclusively use Bridgestone BT45
I can't believe how much lean angle you get for such slow turns! You really do beat the hell out of that bike, the zx10 was just putting along behind you with like 10 degrees less lean angle for every corner. It seems like you don't really apex corners, I think that's why your transitions look so violent. This was a great video though, glad I got to see your riding position behind. I don't think i've ever seen someone ride as neutral as you do and go that quickly.
thanks a lot Nathan!!
that is some intensely fun riding you are doing-thanks for the follow cam view
thanks for commenting!
eY ! I was wondring what kind of brakes do you have on the rear wheel ? Disc or drum brakes ?
Master of the CB500F ! V
drum, it's a CB500 PC26 (without the F)
haha Yes my bad for the F !
Apparently the crash didn't hurt you a lot, did he ? And did you reccord it ?
unfortunately no one did!
:/ and how did you crash schaaf
talked about it in here ua-cam.com/video/yvidBaywTcA/v-deo.html
Just shows what huge confidence you have in that 500.
Had
Hey Schaaf, awesome video! Keep it up. :)
thanks!!
Schaff I need to tour with you in austria, these roads look so good. Oh and the scenery isn't that bad hahaha
everybody needs to do that :)
Schaaf how similar is Austrian to German? I'd probably be okay
Hey schaat wish my little cb went like that .great riding bud.
it's in your hands! Thanks
Great video, who is the one following you?
a friend
nice riding mate!
thanks Ranic :)))
Super Video!
Danke!
It is a real pleasure to see you swinging from right to left on them twisties 😍 and I still think you are fast.. but now I have a little bit of hope one day I could go chase you for a minute 😄
;) Thanks Anne
I wont lie, i got a little bit dizzy watching this... so good :)
thanks SJ :)
holy cow you are using race slicks or what ? =D Your body is not moving on seat at all ...
Unfortunately they're not sponsoring me but still: those Bridgestone tires are legendary good
I just read the description. BT45 seriously? I had them on a couple bikes and thought they were shite lol Both sets cracked all the way around the sidewalls aswell.
He has a cheat code for +10 traction...
Simplesmente espetacular sua moto e sua pilotagem!
Obrigado
LG
negativ! Danke, Tim!
Wahnsinn(ig) gut gefahren! chapeau mister schaaf!
danke dir!!
Wow! Great confidence in yourself and riding skills there man, think my boxes on my GS would have been ground down there lol😎
lol
sehr relaxte Fahrweise sehr schön anzusehen 👍👍
freut mich!
Beeindruckend, was du aus deiner CB herausfährst.
Even i on my motard i move my body on the seat and use the same riding style of superbikes and i wonder how can you do that?? I mean in few fast corners you moved your body perfectly and i wonder why you not doing it all the time and you are even still fast!!
cause it's no fun on the old CB
neat 3rd person view! now i can see the agileness of the cb500! 😀
:D
Your left riding side is your main side- mach faster and lower cornering than right side! Anyway great riding with a bike that do not overburde the driver. I think your enjoyment is to squeeze the machine!
Thanks
Wow boys! Are you always in cannonball mode? ;-) Thank for the tour!
rarely! Thanks for the comment!
Schöne Linie, gute Streckenkenntnis, flinkes Handling deiner CB 500, auch dank relativ schmalem Hinterreifen.
Kleiner Kritikpunkt: spez. in Linkskurven, z. B. deutlich bei 6:25 Min, praktizierst du ein leichtes "Pseudo-Hanging-Off";
Servus
Ha ha ha, the leg gestures reminded me of the game Roadrash.
I guess its a regional thing, because Ive never seen it being done here in the eastern europe.
i see it quite often (riding in hungary, slovakia, romania, so kinda "estern", but not the real "wild-wild east" :)
ahahahaha Roadrash! LEGENDARY GAME!! :D
I live in Hungary and see it all the time
I'm so glad I've got a (Honda CBR) naked bike now in stead of my old Kawasaki ZX6R Racer :) More fun in these corners.
cool!
it's to see you rippibg it up from behind when someone else does the filming. The newer goproS don't match the older ones for sound quality. Great ride.
Wozza's Sports Cruiser Rides thanks Wozza!
Schaafs Schaltvorgänge: 1321345646987651 Up und Downshifts.
This guy rides!!!!100%
not really but thanks
Impressive style. Great rider, really!
thanks dude
Do you use sliders?
nope
Good vids mate
thanks mate
Schaade
Schön gefahren. Da juckt es schon wieder... :D
Grüße aus dem schönen Spessart!
danke, Michael!
I don't think the Z1000 changed gear once...
it's a ZX-10R and he didn't because it's not necessary
Taking motorcycle lessons on a CB500f. Damn, i've not even scratched the surface of what that little bike can do...
well, obviously, you just started :)
6!
@@Schaaf dauert das echt so lange ?:D
Wow, beeindruckend
danke
Amen.
What a beautiful place.. So wish there was a place like that to ride in the prairies of Canada. Your truly blessed :)
it's a good place for riders, yea
Wo ist das denn genau ? Wechsel ?
great stuff....
thanks!!
More video like this 👌 love Your riding style !
thanks Marco!
that lean angle o.0 ...
weeeee
I do not envy bluring your reg plate for that long
;)
Nice ride though bro, some quick direction changes :)
What a rocket you are!
*were ;)
Stay safe! 👍
always
I really enjoy your fluent ride style. But I dont feel safe. I always use my body in a out position and my motorbike as stand as possible. I lean but keeping my bike up. So I can lean also more my bike if needed with a lot of margin. Also my bike is very wide in the lower fairng and I scratch it on the tarmac when lean. Zzr 1400 big beast. Is heavy and difficult in the turns. Anyway I love and aprecciate your videas and want to meet you in your beautifull country. Best regards
thanks for the comment
Unfassbar, was damit geht.
2:51 Yesterday a rider passed a big dump truck and made me and some others have to take drastic action to avoid a crash. So I kicked (in his direction) as he passed. Idiots irritate me to no end. I try to give people who pass when they shouldn't heart attacks. Keep my line until the very last second and then air punch them as they go by. Haha Good times. It's a BIG problem where I am living now.
sounds bad
finally :) I was just curious how its like to observe from the following cam. you are like the russian Humpty Dumpty :) edited ;)
haha
At 3:56, you are in serious mode but the lean angle at 4:36 looks even more impressive.
Getting back after a crash is different for everybody and seeing somebody handle it like nothing can actually hurt you a lot, since it will push you into handling it just as quickly.
After having a crash, it usually helps the most to understand what went wrong and how to prevent it next time around, then get your confidence back up on easier, uncluttered roads, or ideally a racetrack, but always at your own pace. You should always be and feel in control when riding a bike.
Don´t worry about others dealing with crashes and focus on yourself :) .
And good luck getting back out there :) .
Freeman
Sorry that I have edited my previous comment as I was unhappy with it, but thank you for the answer.
Freeman is right. And I was worried the crash permanently damaged my confidence. But since my crash happened because of changing road conditions (dry to wet without me noticing it in time) I knew exactly what had gone wrong. That's why it wasn't that difficult to get back into the zone right after the crash, when the conditions were good
I've edited my previous comment because after second thought I realised that maybe when you talked about getting your confidence back in a previous video, you might have meant from the lack of riding during winter.
In my case, despite knowing what I did wrong (tight roundabout in heavy rain, going in too fast and about to go off road, I leaned more instead of trying to gently use the brakes: lowside), the feeling of my rear wheel sliding is still there. I know that in the dry I'll manage to overcome that but when it's wet, I'm still chickening out.
Still, my main mistake was/is trying to rush the steps instead of properly learning the basics.
