  • Bakuman is a beloved manga ABOUT manga, but beyond its premise Bakuman's true charm lies in its loveably large cast of Characters, who you cant help but cheer for as they aim for the top of Shounen Jump.

Amazing Video, you really explained the characters well and why they are as great as they are in the series.
I have myself reread this series many times and i do agree with all your points

Great vid! I’ve never really thought much about how authors use big casts of characters in stories and the choices that have to be made to develop them properly. It makes me think about how this can relate to That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and it’s huge cast. All the characters have simple personalities, are very visually distinct, and can be identified in groups like hobgoblins, kijin, humans, etc. The simplicity of the cast always made me wonder why I didn’t have a problem in the show, but now I see that it was a total positive working in the show’s favor. Curious to hear your thoughts if you’ve watched/read it.

thank you! I have seen the first season of slime, and I really enjoyed it! (I just havent had the chance to watch the second season yet), I think its a similar case that all the supporting cast members are simple in their personality and visually distinct, and the story doesn’t require them to be more than that, because the amount of characters directly ties into the growth of the city which is something at the core of the show, and to that end the fact that all the characters are memorable because of their simplicity really lends a feeling of liveliness to the town

If you use Only The Manga... Light is always Light, He never changed his ideals. Meanwhile The Anime he's Literally Lúcifer, were He falls from Grace.

I'd say at least one character in Bakuman is better than any haikyuu character as of volume 8 of the manga of haikyuu: Shinta Fukuda. Honestly at least until vol. 6 he's a really complex and we'll written character. After that, it starts to get worse tho.
But it's honestly a great analysis! I always thought of the characters of Bakuman as really deep, but i think I noticed the relationships more than the characters themselves.
