Great point on fire safety. I have three in the shop, a CO2, pressurized water, and 15lbs ABC powder. I also have a Kevlar fire blanket.

Sam, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Bambu labs recent ToU and ToS updates (regarding the "safety" update and need for connectivity / updated firmware in order for app features to run smoothly). I've seen MANY reputable youtubers comment on the manner (such as Louis Rossman), and would like to hear your take, as you are heavily invested in the Bambu ecosystem and I was considering potentially purchasing one since I've been exposed to them via you channel.
    Appreciate the content!

Ive been watching your DIY / homestead channelfor a long time, it goes without saying that I miss it that content very much. Do you only make jigs or do you make products for customers

Fire extinguisher is great idea! It looked like you showed a chemical type, might look up a good Clean Agent type so you don’t kill or make more mess on top of the item that caught on fire. 😉

Awesome Video!! 👍🏽 Sam would a Fire Blanket work? Wouldn’t a Fire Extinguisher leave the debris everywhere on the laser? Maybe have both? Keep up the great Videos.

Great vid Sam! Everything is on point. I just purchased an Xtool s1 with all of the goodies ... and I mean all of the goodies. The one thing that I did not expect was how over excited that I would be! The capabilities of this system are vast but are also limited. To get to the point, the "I wanna do this! and I wanna do that!" blinded me to that absolute fact that you need to begin with the end in mind. I now have a bunch of blanks that I can count on producing sub-par products that are going to collect dust until I get another type of laser. My #6 is to be sure that you know the capabilities of your equipment.

Happy to be one of first comments on here, because this may actually mean that you see it. Sam, I've been wanting to get into laser engraving for about 6 months. It first started on a hobby basis but then after watching your videos I feel that it is also a good way to make side money. I think I've watched every video you have made on engraving so far, and the only question I have is; how long did it take you to learn the light burn/ creative space software? I'm fairly computer savvy but I do not have any direct experience with graphic design. Going along with that, how important is it to buy the adobe software (photoshop/illustrator) and do you regularly use these programs?
Thanks again for providing excellent info and tips!

    • @Samcraftcom
      @Samcraftcom  15 днів тому

Learning the software is like anything else -- depends on the speed at which you learn and how much you devote into learning it. I personally learn most from UA-cam videos, but then community groups second. As for graphic design, that depends on your products -- will they be personalized items, company logos, or standard designs? That will dictate how much you need to learn on the design aspect. Sites like Creative Fabrica (link in my video description) are great for graphics and inspiration. I've paid for my subscription with them for a long time and value it a lot.

Good points! I would add that there are places to get designs until you know how to make your own. Both free and for purchase. New lasers should be fun and this can take a ton of frustration out of it as you are learning.

I understand this video is not focused on the shop you recently constructed, but my husband and I are in the planning stages of building a 28x32 tiny home. We’ve been trying to determine the appropriate spacing for the piers, but have struggled to find clear guidance on the matter. Would you be willing to share how you determined the spacing for your piers? Your insight would be greatly appreciated!

This will seem dumb to many but make sure you have the correct type/s Of fire extinguishers and if you have more than one type ensure you can't mix them up.
Also best to keep flammable materials/supplies in their own area away from equipment and any exits.

Sam, I have been a follower for some time, even before you got the Shapeoko Pro XXL. I basically got started on my own Shapeoko with your assembly vid. That being said I recently got a MECPOW X3 10 Wat laser. I upgraded from a 4.2 wat J-Tech Photonics laser. I know you are well beyond this point in your laser experience. Getting to the point, do you have a video in setting up and dialing in a new laser? Please point me in the right direction?

One other thing also i noticed is if my ply is a bit moist due to cold in my workshop/shed, then this affects the cuts and engraving too.

No judgement, just sharing information...on one of my videos, I got this comment about my Free Mascot safety glasses: "Me and a few colleagues tested this on industrial spectrophotometers designed for this purpose(testing coatings/film transmission), and they transmit as much as 8% of light where they should be transmitting 0.0000001%
Get a pair of OD6 or higher, from any of the following brands: Kentek, Lasertack, Thorlabs, Honeywell, Glendale, Sperian, Newport/MKS, Edmund Optics, Laservision/Uvex, Laserglow, NoIR (LaserShield)." Take it for what it's worth...I don't want to lose my eyes, I use certified Kentek safety glasses now.

Deployment of an ABC fire extinguisher is an option and is likely the most cost effective. However, the powder inside can damage electronics that aren't near the deployment area. It gets into absolutely everything. As a first line of defense I recommend a CO2 extinguisher in the 10-15LB range. They are more expensive and come with different problems so do your research but if you have your primary computer, server, or other hard to replace electronic assets in the same room as the laser you might consider deploying a CO2 extinguisher first and if that doesn't work then reach for the ABC.

Suggest including fire blanket(s) as part of safety planning. Can smother the fire and not make a big mess to clean up.
