      Yeah, absolutely right. And some guys out there think that everyone in the gym should bench like this, which is not true

    Thank you so much for your explanation. Soooo many coaches who also produce great content seem to overlook the breathing/bracing part of the bench press.

    What if Sean never intended to give us that arch video and is just secretly uploading parts of the set up as individual videos that we have to put together 😳

    A super interesting topic for a potential next bench Video would be the actual grip with points like width and also nuances like wrists cocked back vs straight, bulldog / japanese grip etc.

    Some really great thoughts and advice on the belted bench here, probably the most useful info I've seen on the subject. Thanks

    I wear a belt for bench to stabilize my lower back. Without a belt my lower back hurts after benching, so even though it hurts my ability to arch, it works better with a belt for me.

    Audio sounds nice but if you want it to sound better try aiming front side towards your mouth instead of the top. A bit off topic lol

  • @brentcho1275

    But in competition, does bench press have limits for reducing range of motion? Or if they don’t, shouldn’t they have it? Because in my opinion, I think it’s really stupid to keep adding advantage when benching. If you can’t control the weight without arching and bellying up, you simply just can’t lift that weight.

    Any thoughts on the belts benefits with regards to packing your lats against it? Personally I feel like it helps my mind muscle connection with my lats which keeps me tighter under the bar. Just another personalangle/perspective related to the idea that extra tightness from a belt can offset the downsides of a slightly smaller arch

    Great vid Sean! I wanted to ask - when you talk about bracing and bringing your ribcage up, do you mean breathing more into the chest rather than the diaphragm?

    Poor yuki san haha. But how you also explain that most of top Japanese benchers using belt when they benching?

    • @seannoriega1024
      @seannoriega1024  3 роки тому +1

      The Japanese men’s team doesn’t really have crazy arches Tbh. So I think that pressure build up they get may be a personal preference. Also, I am not making everything a one size fits all. These are just general recommendations that i know to have widespread application. As far as Yuki goes, he is a phenomenal bench presser, but I’d be lying if I said that there aren’t things I think he could be doing to be better.

    The art of benching without benching. This is a joke. Benching like this is why the sport is losing respect. Sane people look at this kind of bench and think 'WTF', but these are the current rules. Change is needed.
