Thank you so much for your explanation. Soooo many coaches who also produce great content seem to overlook the breathing/bracing part of the bench press.
A super interesting topic for a potential next bench Video would be the actual grip with points like width and also nuances like wrists cocked back vs straight, bulldog / japanese grip etc.
What if Sean never intended to give us that arch video and is just secretly uploading parts of the set up as individual videos that we have to put together 😳
But in competition, does bench press have limits for reducing range of motion? Or if they don’t, shouldn’t they have it? Because in my opinion, I think it’s really stupid to keep adding advantage when benching. If you can’t control the weight without arching and bellying up, you simply just can’t lift that weight.
I wear a belt for bench to stabilize my lower back. Without a belt my lower back hurts after benching, so even though it hurts my ability to arch, it works better with a belt for me.
Any thoughts on the belts benefits with regards to packing your lats against it? Personally I feel like it helps my mind muscle connection with my lats which keeps me tighter under the bar. Just another personalangle/perspective related to the idea that extra tightness from a belt can offset the downsides of a slightly smaller arch
hi papa sean, I want to ask "pinch the shoulder blades"u did say @ 6:00.. did u meant to pinch them while lowering the bar? or we should do that while holding the bar?
Great vid Sean! I wanted to ask - when you talk about bracing and bringing your ribcage up, do you mean breathing more into the chest rather than the diaphragm?
The Japanese men’s team doesn’t really have crazy arches Tbh. So I think that pressure build up they get may be a personal preference. Also, I am not making everything a one size fits all. These are just general recommendations that i know to have widespread application. As far as Yuki goes, he is a phenomenal bench presser, but I’d be lying if I said that there aren’t things I think he could be doing to be better.
The art of benching without benching. This is a joke. Benching like this is why the sport is losing respect. Sane people look at this kind of bench and think 'WTF', but these are the current rules. Change is needed.
Hands down the best channel for super specific powerlifting information, in super specific detail! Thank you Sean
Yeah, absolutely right. And some guys out there think that everyone in the gym should bench like this, which is not true
Interesting
Out of focus Sean is best sean
Blame Nick Spitaliere for this one. I trusted him when he told me I was in focus 😩
Top notch informative content aside, im always amazed at how well-spoken Sean is when it comes to conveying complex things

Have you tried with a 2-inch belt?

Been waiting for months for a restock of feyuies for size 13. Literally no other company has size 13 kung fu shoes. What do your taller clients wear?
They wear size 14 and above
what chair is that?
RIP headphones
Zoro
Am i watching a jeff nipard video
Lol, that man is the pinnacle of YT fitness. I want my channel to one day be like that but for powerlifting specific shit
Audio sounds nice but if you want it to sound better try aiming front side towards your mouth instead of the top. A bit off topic lol

Poor yuki san haha. But how you also explain that most of top Japanese benchers using belt when they benching?

How to improve your bench: Unrack the weight then re-rack it. Boom, 3 green lights.
Brother your bench is more like 60/40
