It's difficult to pick who'll win ASL 17. Hero, Snow, and Best are overdue to win a championship so I'd be happy to see one of them take the crown
I think Soulkey figured that Bisu will take out Jyj, then he probably feels confident he can take out Bisu in a BO3.

Group A: Bisu, Soulkey? B: Mini, RoyaL C: Light, Best D: SnOw, Action. BarrackS can be a surprise if he is in top form.
Your prediction is very similar to mine, but I can actually see Best getting through instead of Rush. He is an incredibly good Protoss player. That's a tough group, though,
Action and hero not being picked until late weren't just being respected for skill. A lot of the players said they didn't want to have to practice all 3 matchups if possible and were trying to keep their groups 2 races only. Interesting to hear them, don't always think about that stuff being so important.
Group B is stupidly stacked.
I mean don't get me wrong, they're all stacked but group B has 2 ex ASL champions along with a runner up.

Nice little rundown. Disagree on the those being the top 3 zerg though. I would still put queen (zero) above action and hero. other than that agree with your analysis. gonna be a banger ro16 for sure.
Overall yes, but recently Queen is not in a good shape. Last ASL he didn't make it through Ro24, this season he didn't qualify loosing in elimination against 2100MMR terran player (basically Arty-like noname put him down).

yeah and there was some top 24 list a while back, I assume for this same tournament, that was also predominantly terran. I can see a very early cheese advantage to protoss, but this backs up my thinking that zerg is actually the hardest race. Swarm is decent against terran, but maybe useless against protoss, and I still think weaker than science vessel play. Seems like ghosts can shut down the cheese artosis deals with pretty hard, especially arbiter and shuttle/reaver, but like most people, I don't play SC1 anymore

I feel like swapping Action out was a great move by Soulkey, but the JYJ pick feels really weird. JYJ has great TvZ and could realistically cause an upset if he makes it past Bisu. Why not grab Shuttle, or even Barracks? Soulkey's ZvP is so frightening, there is no way Shuttle beats him in a Bo3. Even Barracks has less upset potential than JYJ, and either would bring his potential match-ups down to two again.

Sitting champion can swap players once at his discretion. He swapped to avoid a TTTP in group D and to avoid playing ZvZ - and maybe also because there are just 3 Zerg players.
I watched the group award show, but I had a feeling it was mostly already decided and just staged for our entertainment :)

Lights the best? Nyoken casting that torunament where Snow went through him 4-0 like knife through butter and also beat Royal 3-0 and Rush 4-0 ,all in a row? Yea ,Totally Light is without a doubt the best player and clearly not Snow.
i think rush+best > light in group C.
I feel like Action went so late just because no one wanted to practice against zerg.
So wait, 8 of the top 16 players are picking the hardest race? Only 3 zerg and 5 Protoss. I get that the ladder experience is a crap storm, but I'm starting to doubt the terran whining, it's just like SC2, where they are playing the easiest race, whining about everything to get it even easier.
It's different at different levels. At a level where Artosis plays, Terran is by far the weakest, at ASL level Zerg is. Also look at game duration - at any high level, Terran can do very little late game, but only small % of games make it to that stage.
Being hardest race, doesn't mean it can't have biggest potential. Playing terran is like racing F1, one little mistake and you're dead, but if you do everything perfect you go ahead.
@@ivankuzin8388 Protoss only has three titles of which one was the first asl... I think its pretty clear that its the worst race at the t1/t2 pro level but not by a huge margin by any means. It starts to lose the advantage of being easier to play at that level which is what arty often complains about too.
@@tuubi2783You are correct, but also because of the maps - maps call for shorter games, and Protoss is strong in mostly late game.
Terran is much harder to play than the other races. I think the easiest way to see this is when you look at those F to S guides where a good player shows that by just purely focusing on macro with mouse only and around 60 apm you can easily climb the ladder. But this is only demonstrated with P and Z. Nobody can do this with terran.
This discrepancy of the amount of skill you have vs. the results you achieve is observed basically all the way up to the pro level. I do believe that the terran race has the highest theoretical skill cap and thus is "the best race when played at the highest possible level", but that's virtually a non-factor for the majority of players (even pros).
Now watch one of these 3 zergs win the whole thing and ARtosis complain about how overpowered zerg is. BUT ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS MICRO MUTAS TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!
Snow has been overhyped every season and always failed to deliver. Let's see this time.
Action 5-0'd Snow recently (Home of Starcraft channel), just saying. Snow it a God in every matchup except PvZ where he definitely can be beat, not even requires the best zerg in the world.
