Harley. I thought the Austin A40 looks so cool. It's amazing that a car that's 60 years old can look so great racing in 2024. I know i mention about stockcar racing here in NZ, but there was a couple of cars that had Austin A40 body shells back in the 1960s. British cars were popular for stockcar racing. I also remember when the British stockcar team toured our stockcar tracks here in the early 1970s one of their cars had a Hillman Husky body shell. They challenged our Kiwi drivers to teams races back then. Im thinking this happened back in 1972 /73 thereabouts. Their cars were painted white with the Union Jack painted on the roofs. They all looked good. An Australian Holden there , that's something we see alot of here down under. What a thrill for you getting driven around the racetrack. I think i would have been shitting myself , and yelling to the driver SLOW DOWN !. Anyway very good video . Thanks from Carl.
Was brilliant to get you out in the car Harley, fantastic day! I remember almost 20 years ago before I could do track days myself I would go to Oulton park with my helmet and ask 'friendly' track dayers if they would mind taking me out for passenger laps, so it feels great to be able to do the same. It's genuinely one of the best parts about this hobby! Great vid and hope to see you at another Oulton day in 2025.
Harley, my loyalty has been like a time lapsed film of the life of a true motoring enthusiast from charming early videos with toy cars, through an ever expanding collection and restoration of motoring memorabilia, and not forgetting classic bicycles and peddle car to the arrival of you own car! It is a masterful example of how, when a member of an enthusiastic and caring (and indulgent!) family a younger's natural curiosity can be encouraged into creative and meaningful ways. I do enjoy all your and dad's videos and scour the web on my ancient (like me) laptop t find them! With bated breath I await watching you in your own yellow peril driving on the road - SAFELY Lol As well of news of top academic success! Rob😛
Excellent video Harley. It was quite exciting to ride along. You look good in the helmet so I'll be expecting action videos when you are able to drive Oulton Park yourself!
Wow, mate! That has GOT to rate up in your Top 20 experiences at a race track (so far) for sure! Rapt for ya! I tell you what though - it's a different experience being in the passenger's seat as to being in the driver's seat...as you'd probably have guessed anyway. Will looks so calm and composed behind the wheel of the little car, so he probably knows it intimately and the car will feel very much a part of him as he pilots it around. Ahhhhh.....the good old days! On the MX5 itself, they are such a well-balanced little car that a lot of extra ponies pushing her along will just make the job more fun. They are great to kick the back end and drift with too - because of that balance - keeping the momentum through the corners and onto the next straight. I'm truly surprised at the lack of MX5s being used in racing, but I guess with the strict regulations around the levels of modification in the classes, they'd not be as competitive as others of a similar weight / cc rating / year or other criteria could be. Will certainly looked like he was having a lot of fun and its a pity the phone / camera went on strike for the rest of the potential footage....although that's something special that you get to keep for yourself - which is also cool. I bet that's got you thinking a bit, eh? Haha! Maybe one day,,, That little A40 though, eh? What a great sound and a great look as she flew along that circuit. Great to see one out on the track apart from at Goodwood. All the best - and may this just be the first of many trips around a track circuit - even as a passenger!
Top video Harley amazing drive around the track good on you, how was the trip out in the vw it's looking good you will have to do a video on a trip, cheers
Just going from the title, I thought you were going to be driving. But, of course, you need a license for that 😁 Still, being in the passenger seat for a ride like that would be almost as thrilling!
Used to drive my uncle’s one, a Countryman, on the farm … always thought they were a lovely car - compared to the Morris Minor especially. Loved the front grille on the Mk2… similar to the Morris Oxford - never liked the wavy grille that Austin used on its other cars. Only real enemy was the rust. Like everything back then . Pity they weren’t developed more by BMC… Countryman version made them such a useful car.
Great video and it looks like you really had a fun day👍🏻
Another great video Harley, thanks.
Another great video Harley
Thank you😮😮😊
Thought the VW would be on the track🤓🏆

It certainly was, Will was a fantastic driver and it was a shame the second 'push' lap didn't record!
