Hi I'm Wendy a resin artist and crafter.
In this video I am showing you the differences between Chameleon flakes and powders.
After having a couple of conversations recently with fellow crafters who had got completely confused with the flakes, I decided to show you the differences.
Although they both do the same things, they also do different things and the effects are different. so I purchased a box of both types from Let's resin (on Amazon) and have put together a video showing the colours in the packs and the effects they create.
When I was learning all this, I would have loved to see this video. So I really hope you enjoy it and hope it inspires you to get creative. I have linked everything below for you to try this yourselves.
If you have any comments, questions or Ideas please use the comment section below and I will get back to you.
Thanks for watching
Wendy

This is a Great video and I have got both of these! And I notice right of the difference of what could be done and the flakes are so beautiful but do is the powder. The flakes just have to be used only with a brush is the difference. Thanks again for this great video
Thanks for the video. I’ve used both flakes and powder, but never side by side like you did. Nice to see the difference side by side. I love the flakes but you are so right, hard to work with. One tip for anyone using them. Static is the enemy!😄 when using flakes, I make sure to have a dryer sheet right beside me. I wipe my hand, brush, mold, and container before opening it. It’s not perfect, but cuts down the “flying flake” effect somewhat. Thanks again for your great videos.
That’s a great tip Pam 👍 I know about the static but never thought of doing anything about it 😂😂😂
Thank you so much 😀👍❤️
That’s a great idea. I do that when hand sewing to keep thread from knitting.
That’s a Great tip thanks, because the static is such a pain!
Amazing as always. You are definitely a favorite person to watch.
Thank you Deborah 😀😀💜
All totally gorgeous in their own way
Thank you Melissa.
Totally agree 😀😀😀
🤗
I committed on this video 10 months ago and decided to watch it again tonight! I learned so much, I think more the 2nd time! Maybe I should go for a 3rd! Thanks, Again and again!
Thank YOU again Miss Hudson 😀😀😀 I’m so glad it’s helping 😀👍❤️
Just worked with flakes for the first time today. Your video is very helpful.
Thank you so much Pam.
Hope you enjoy it 😀👍❤️
Hi Wendy, I didn't get a notification for this one so I went looking. You can't hide from me. LOL.
Great comparison Wendy.
If I ever do get into resin work expect a phone call. LOL.
Take care hun.
Cheers, Huw X
😂😂😂
I was never any good at hide n seek 😂😂
Thank you so much Huw
You know you can call me anytime 😀👍❤️
Those are all gorgeous, and this was very informative. Thank you, Wendy. ❄️
Thank you so much Kris.
When I first started resin it was difficult to find out anything 😂😂😂
I hope this helps people 😀😀😀
Happy crafting ❤️
Thank you so much. Catch you on your next video.❤
Thank you Lollie 😀😀💜
Thanks for showing the comparison! The flakes definitely end up with a pretty look but what a mess! LOL. That's okay, I guess. Art is messy! Beautiful colors!!
I’m definitely messy 😂😂😂
So the flakes match my personality 😊
Thanks Trish. Have a great crafting week 😀😀😀👍❤️
It wasn't long winded..I'm grateful you took the time to do that for us...thank you Wendy 😊. I have a small assortment of the powders by Lets Resin and I love them, I didn't know they made flakes lol, they seem gorgeous but really hard to work with...thank you for sharing all of this with us🥰💖
You are more than welcome Katherine 😀
I am sure you will love the flakes 😀👍😊❤️
Always interesting information Wendy well done again.
Thanks Laurence. If only I was around when I was starting out 😂😂😂 have a great week 😀👍
Exactly the video i was looking for.. Thank You!!
I’m so glad it helped 😀😀😀
Thank you so much Heather👍
Great video Wendy, thanks for sharing, it's very informative ❤
You are so welcome 😀💜
Thanks! Very informative, appreciate the help in understanding the difference.
Glad it helped Terry 😀😀💜👍
Thanks for that very good comparison, you helped me to choose 👍🏽
I’m very glad it’s helped 😀😀👍❤️
Great video Wendy.
Thank you so much John 😀
Really appreciate it 😀👍❤️
Just got these. But I got a box of flakes and a single jar of powder. I like both the flakes won’t last if u use them the same way as you use the powder I tried just brushing the flakes in random spots for the effects. Then resin with black works nicely. 👍
Sounds amazing 😀
Great 👍
Have fun with them 😀👍
Thanks for your comment AJ
You have explained them both perfectly, as I am an ex nail polish maker I understand how they work but I know how confusing some people find them.
Thank you so much 😀😀
I had trouble understanding them to start with 😂😂 so thought it would help 👍❤️
Awesome learning lesson 🥰Thankyou
Thank you so much Lorna.
So glad it helps
😀😀😀😀👍❤️
Great comparison Wendy. They all turned out so beautiful and shiny. I don't know why, but it's never occurred to me to use chameleon colours in Christmas decorations. Think I'll have to give it a go. Thank you.
Thank you so much Yvonne.
I have used the snowflakes in another Christmas project actually to add colour and I think they work really well.
That’s another video though 😂😂
😀❤️👍
Good explanation Wendy.
Thank you Doug
Really appreciate that
😀👍❤️
Nice comparison, now I just need to decide which one I have most use of...
😀😀😀 really depends on what you are making 😀😀👍
Hi Wendy. A very good comparison and the flakes were more pronounced in their colour change, but what a faff, it would drive me potty getting the flakes all over the place. Mind you my black dog would wear it well 😂🦆💕
Oh your dog would be very colourful 😂😂😂 I must admit I love flakes, but those powders from let’s resin are a good alternative 😀😀😀👍❤️
Ahh yes those 🧐 thought about those but that’s as far as it’s gone 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣...my thoughts too Pam
Very very informative video! Thanks especially for showing what they both looked like mixed into the resin- that was surprising!
So glad you found it useful 😀😀
Thanks T Jones 😀👍
Absolutely Stunning
Thank you 😀💜
I love your work!!! Love this video,
Thank you so much Sheena.
So glad you enjoy my little channel 🤭😀😊👍
I knew the differences, but I love all your videos anyway, and always learn something new. Hoping your holidays are wonderful!❤️
Thanks Pam.
All levels of people watch UA-cam and more experienced resin crafters like yourself probably won’t find this helpful.
But thank you so much for watching and commenting.
It’s really appreciated 😀❤️
I was dusting my molds with Let’s resin chameleon powder.. just when I finished I got the notification for your video! 😄 I’d planned to mix the gold in resin for another project and I had no idea if it’d work, thanks for showing that as well! 😅
Thanks Funo.
Great minds think alike huh 😀😀😀
Weird too sometimes 😂😂😂
I didn't see much of the chameleon effect with the powders, bummer! The flakes are great, but I think using masks and glasses is important as they do fly everywhere and you don't want to breathe that it! Thank you for doing the comparison!
Thanks Sue. Yes the static is real 😮
The powders are colour changing but not as dramatic and some are better than others.
Appreciate your comment Sue
😀👍
@@Toonpish I suggested to others to wipe down the area in the mold with a fabric softener before brushing.
Very interesting as always Wendy. Thanks so much x
Glad you enjoyed it Chantal. Thanks for commenting as always ❤️
Thanks so much for this video!!! I have the powders & love them! So I just ordered the flakes!!!💕💕🥰
Have fun with them they are gorgeous 😀👍❤️ thanks Kathy
Happy crafting 😀
Very well done. I learnt a lot from this thanks x
You are totally welcome 🤗
Thanks Sarah
Great info! Thank you!
You are welcome Vangie 👍😀
Thank you 😊

Thank you! Very helpful!
You are most welcome 😀👍❤️
Very helpful video!
Thank you!
Totally welcome Ivonne 😀😀👍❤️
Thanks for the experiment Wendy… helpful as always 🤩
Thank you so much Virginia.
Have fun crafting Hun 😀😀😀😀👍❤️
Thank you so much. I've been looking for something to give my resin pieces an oil slick affect and because of this video, I know that flakes seem to be the way to go.
They are expensive but worth it imo 😀😀😀
Thanks for the comment and for watching 😀👍
Very helpful video
That’s great to know Bela 😀😀👍❤️
When I use chameleon flakes I use Aileen tack it over and over on my molds. I do 2 thin coats, let it dry and it works beautifully.
Thanks Shantel.
I’ve never done that.
Thanks for the input 😀👍
What is Aileen?
I found this to be a very helpful video, and displayed the difference between chameleon flakes and powder very well. Thank you for doing this! :)
You are totally welcome.
I’m glad it helped 😀😀😀
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. ❤️
It’s really appreciated 😀😀😀👍❤️
I really enjoyed your video very informative
Thank you for letting me know Donna 😀😀 it’s very much appreciated 👍❤️
This was excellent thankyou. I was desperate to know the difference
Glad it helped 😀💜
Thank you for that. It's great to be able to see the differences before purchasing. The shine with the flakes is beautiful, but the mess would probably be too annoying for me. That's just me, though.
One of my subscribers gave a great tip which I pinned. So check out the top comment 😀👍❤️
Thank you Lisa 👍
Thanks!
You are welcome Ruth 😀👍
Thank you for answering that question for me! I was wondering what the difference was!
I did too when I started.
You are totally welcome 😀👍❤️
Ooooooooo mine both arrived today .... so excited for this video... 😍😍 So helpful thank you so much hunee ... really loved those flakes just wow ! 😱 😍😍 Thanks for sharing xxxx
Enjoy it hun 😀👍❤️
@@Toonpish just finished ❤❤ and updated my comment lol
I’ve no idea how to update my answer 😂😂😂😂 glad you liked it honey 😀👍❤️ have lots of fun with your flakes 🤗
@@Toonpish thank yooooo 😍😍😍
Thank you
You're welcome😀😀💜
Hi Wendy. As you know I am a huge Let's Resin fan and I do have both of the sets you have used. I'm thinking of using the flakes in my resin rather than on the mold? Thank you for sharing X
Hi Clare, did you see the bit in the video where I did that?
You could use the flakes in resin with anything colour, such as white which would show them up.
But it would be more like glitter
There is a comment about mixing flakes with isopropyl alcohol.
I’ve not tried that so no idea if it works 🤷♀️
Hope that helps Clare 😀😀😀👍
@@Toonpish I went back for another look. I'm so glad I did. The flakes are stunning, however too pricey to use just mixed with resin. I think you would have to use the whole jar to make it effective. Oh are you gonna try the isoproply alcohol? I'd love to see how that would work. Thank's again Wendy xx
I have had a little play, will see how it goes lol😀
I saw someone else use gold leaf glue before using the flakes.
you don't need to use glue on a silicone mould as it has a surface the flakes stick to. But if you are putting them on cured resin or another surface you will need something to stick them with.
Hope that helps
just starting. Do you put a mold release on before putting the powder on the mold?
You don’t have to. It does protect your moulds a little bit. But if you do, wait for it to completely soak in and dry 😀😀💜👍
So useful, thank you so much for that tutorial! Any chance you could share the link to the molds by any chance please?
Thank you so much Nathalie 😀
I didn’t because They are not very good quality. 🥺
I had to trim them to get them to sit flat and some sank in the middle 🤦♀️
I can get you the link from Amazon but only if you still want it
❤️
@@Toonpish Got you, thanks for the feedback!
Thanks Wendy, good to know this. Have you tried dissolving the mics flakes in a tiny bit of 99% alcohol and then mixing with resin?
Actually not tried that. Does it work?
Would be interested to find out 😀 thank you Patricia 😀👍
That would be interesting to know🤔...thank you for the idea 💡
Can u use the flakes as eyeshadow? I already have the chameleon powder and I pressed them down making a pressed eyeshadow in tin. And there GORGEOUSS!! BUTT I been eyeing the flakes for some time and wanted to see if I could wear as eyeshadow??
🤔 well I have no idea about safety 🤷♀️
But they definitely stick to skin.
Why not ask Let’sResin if it would be safe for use 😀😀😀
Sorry I can’t help any further 😀❤️
Which 1 gives the a shimmer look? Where did u buy it? Does the flakes rub off?
Shimmer as in dual colour? They both do.
Neither rubs of as they are attached to the resin. Could wear off over time like anything would. Patina
You can buy both from Let’sResin
Where did you get the snowflake molds?
Amazon I believe 😀😀 hope that helps 😀😀❤️
Hi ,, I have both the Chameleon flakes and powders,,, and have to agree with you on the flakes,,, they are hard to spread out but I used a combo of both on an octopus 👾 mould that I have and the colors realy pop iI added a black rainbow 🌈 glitter in my 2 part apoxy resin with a little black mica mixed it slowly and thoroughly then poured slowly in tho my octopus mould , I just demoulded my octopus and he looks so cool,, taking of rainbows I noticed a lovely rainbow on your gloves when doing the cat paw moulds I have a holographic window roll that you cat and peel off and pla e on a door,, so though you might have the same!!! Any way take care and stay safe.😷👾🐙
I do have the window film yes 😀😀😀
But I now have a curtain as the sunshine was making the room far too hot for me.
The combination is a great idea 😀😀
I might give that a go 👍❤️
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comment 🤗
@@Toonpish I've found that I had to cover my glass door as it leads in our garden it gets so bright at times, but the effect of that holographic film is really amazing I've ordered the 10 pack of Chameleon powders ,, I've really gone into this Chameleon color shift,, I got a bracelet flat link bracelet with those Chameleon colors too,, of greens blues pinks gold and violet,, I'm really looking forward to seeing more done with these amazing Chameleon powders,,, pendents braceet bezels so on,, that would be cool😎 I'm trying to get some sea foam inserts too but can find on Amazon ,,and its the only one that I trust at the moment have a great weekend 😘👾🐙
@@Tiger804 sounds great 👍
They are spectacular colours 😀😀😀
Great info! Thank you. Do you have a link to those molds? I didn't see it.
Thank you so much Linda.
I bought them from Amazon uk.
They are not great quality so I wouldn’t recommend them.
Some of them are not flat most I had to trim the back up.
I will drop the link in if you want though
😀👍❤️
@@Toonpish I live in US so that's ok. Thanks for the quick response!
No problem 👍
Where do you find the bases for the light bulbs? I have looked all over.
Not sure what you mean but check out Let’sResin 👍💜
You know the light bulbs that we make out a resin. The bases that turns the bulb on. It makes them light up luke a light 💡. The silver part at the bittom
Yes, let’s resin sell them separately 💜👍
@Toonpish thank you I will look again. I have the skull light bulb mold but no light buttons
Good luck 😀
Do you need a glue to make it stay
Not on a silicone mould no. On wood yes and cured resin sometimes 😀😀 hope that helps 😀💜
The flakes are more like chopped up foils aren’t they.
They are yes 👌👍 but beautiful colours 😀😀👍❤️
Looked this video up. Hmmm... Makes me wonder which is my best investment. 🙄
Well the powder is more versatile and cheeper but the flakes are more dynamic.
It’s really a personal choice 🤔
I use both for different applications 😀👍😊
Neither looked good when mixed with resin!!!
This is true 😂😂😂 but at least one mixed 😀😀
