I don't think that Big L was murdered accidentally because of a mistaken identity (his brother). He was trying to make it big rapping, but he was actually involved in some street stuff. His brother (Big Lee) was part of a crew (NFL Crew) that would setup and rob drug dealers. That includes drug dealers that Big L knew, and he would let the crew know their location.
Big L's brother went to prison, but before that he had beef with the guy who eventually killed Big L. He was a childhood friend of Big L's. His brother hired someone in prison to kill the guy once he got out. The word is Big L went to help. It didn't go as planned and the guy ended up finding out who was behind it, including that Big L was one of the guys that tried to kill him. Shortly after that is when the guy killed Big L shooting him 9 times.
Big L's brother tried to get revenge years later when he got out of prison. Apparently he found out that someone was helping to hide the guy who killed his brother. He threatened to kill the guy and the guy ended up killing him. Big L's killer got locked up around that time for something else.
He got out of jail in 2015 and moved back to that same area where Big L was killed. Then he was killed in 2016. Word is that it was Big L/Big Lee's people, but I don't know how official that is. It didn't stop there though. In 2019, Big Lee's son (Big L's nephew) was killed as retaliation.
Cameron was in a crew (Children Of The Corn) with Big L, and they were good friends in the 90's. Cam went to the funeral of Big L's killer because he knew him as well. He actually spit a freestyle shortly after because people were calling him out asking why he would go to the funeral of the guy that murdered his friend Big L. In the freestyle Cam says how a week before Big L was killed, he tried to setup and kill that same guy.
There's a lot to it. Most people think that it was a case of mistaken identity, but that's not the case.
I was living on 125th and St.Nick at that time
