I always read the comments that all you commentators make, before I watch the show when it first starts. And I’m glad that they brought the little girl back, because there was a couple of comments about this, and she deserves to come back. I remember her from another game show and it was match game, but I think it was a couple years later. But I’ll take your guises word for it! Thank you commentators!

That's a ticket plug they use to combine two protruding features of celebrities/contestants. You can view some of them. But I think that's hilarious. Avery Schreiber's mustache. Need to find the actual clip. Probably from 1975.
This is a small part on why the show was funny. Offbeat instances like this.
Oof, "monster" was a horrible answer, what was he thinking? But he got in the groove with "Puck" and "Rider"

She did a lot of summer stock. Shes not.as goofy as Goldie Hawn or as cerebral as Lily Tomlin. They were the big movie stars out of Laugh-In. You don't hear about Arte Johnson or Ruth Buzzi either.

20:47 was the first match and they mistakenly gave her two green triangles. They quickly took it away and then added it in when Jo Anne matched. Confusing!

I understand why the judge didn’t accept girlfriends. There’s a big difference in platonic friends and intimate friends. There’s less of a chance of you losing platonic friends eating garlic than intimate friends. In the 1970s the public didn’t think of same sex as intimate friends either. So that never would have come up.

Well, she should have said friends, not "girl" friends. Leaves out the guys, however "friends" include the girls
the judge was on right and i seen this before, if the contestant give and specific answer different than that of the celebrities the fault is on her and not on the judge, she could have said friends and would had matched everybody, aldo i understand a man's girlfriend is also a friend but that's not what she meant, she meant girlfriend as couples. same for alcohol, don't want to use the words whisky or beer, in this game you want to use the word alcohol to maximize your chances of matching.👈✔️
Why should she have come back? She specifically said "girlfriends." It was foolish of her to specify gender, because the question didn't call for that. If she had said what was logical, she would have had six matches. Did they have protesters outside the studio after this episode? That's as good a reason as any, for that woman to have been brought back.
I wonder if they shot multiple shows in the same day? It seems like the slate has the same date, unless that's not a date.
It seems that they taped 5 a day. Sometimes on Friday and sometimes on Monday.
There is a youtube video saying they shot 6 a day when they had the PM version going at the same time.
@@pencils812They taped 5 or 6 on Saturday and the same on Sunday. They'd have two weeks worth of daytime shows. Idk if the taped the PM shows at the same time or not.
Can't believe Gene didn't know that Franenstein was the doctor and his monsters name was Prometheus which means Mr Roundtree was not so far off !!

They brought her back but they should not have, had she said Friends then girl friends would have been a point. When answering be less specific. OR GO HOME.
I don’t understand why Harum and wives matched? Because a lot of times their daughters are in the harem also! And they’re very particular about their daughters. So they would not be a wife.

I understand the judge's not matching "girlfriends" with "friends". However, by the same reasoning (specific vs. general), they should also not have matched the following contestant's "person" with "hunter." But the point was awarded. So I'm glad they brought Gloria back for another show and another chance.
Ira was notoriously inconsistent.
When watching these episodes in aggregate, it's amazing how many times they repeat the same questions.
Or similar questions that produce the same routine answers, like "kiss", "bra", or "wife". (The best answer for nearly every Godfather question is "spaghetti".) I suppose these are giveaway questions to favor contestants who are loyal viewers of the show. Either that or the writers are just lazy.

I guessing the person who runs that broad got confused who was playing and gave Wayne's point to the girl instead and then corrected it but forgot to take the point back away from the girl.. Kind of like when the music comes on to early for a win, it was just a mistake..

Well if you listen they were all plotting to answer the next one with girlfriend and Richard said you know what my answer going to be.. If you put girlfriend in the blank on the next question well..I think that what was going on. The bottom tier was plotting to put girlfriend for the answer for the next question.
@@sdlively27 I thin Ira's ruling was okay in this case, but this plot would have resulted in a 0-0 tie and sent the match into a new tie breaker, giving the "robbed" contestant another shot. Funny thing is that if Ira had matched "friends" we probably would have seen a 6-6 tie with the "puck" answer and gotten another tie breaker anyway.

But that is not what the original question said. It said the "Frankenstein monster" which is different than Dr. Frankenstein. It's very clear that it was Frankenstein's monster.

The Frankenstein's Monster question was a rotten one, but I'm surprised nobody gave the classic answer to the joke: an IRS Auditor. Now that would frighten almost anybody.

So Friends and Girlfriends don't match; but Man and Hunter match Person? Ugh.
Gotta remember the times back when women rarely worked, and you NEVER heard of women hunters. So, it actually makes sense. You're looking at it from a liberated point of view, and back then, things were different. But girlfriends is too specific, and friends could be male or female.
@@kathycobb4451 Exactly. Euel Gibbons was too specific, but man and hunter were about as generic as person given the context of a bad shot out hunting.
"Hunter" should not have matched. I'm a person, but not a hunter. In fact, most people are not hunters!
The Frankenstein question is a weird one, but I thought maybe the monster would attempt to scare people by dressing up as the thing that scared him. And what Frankenstein's Monster feared was FIRE. 🔥

A seven-foot tall Little Bo Peep, with bolts in her neck? Could be pretty scary.
It's the Frankenstein Monster's idea of what is frightening. Jo Ann was playing an "opposite" game, much like what they did with "The Addams Family" and "The Munsters". For example, Herman would have thought that it would be frightening to dress up like Marilyn.
For the Frankenstein question I would say Phyllis Diller as well, because half her charm was self deprecating humor. There's a fair amount of BS going on in this show, just a few episodes ago where HAT was matched with HEAD, seriously folks, that sucks

There's no mechanism to contest a judges ruling. However they did bring contestants back fairly often when there were questionable rulings.

Actually, given the way Phyllis Diller habitually put herself down, she probably would have laughed her trademark laugh at their jokes. (I really liked Phyllis too!)

That's pretty harsh, it's a game show relax and try to see the humor. The judge was right in the case.
Were game show contestants always so dull and boring back in the 70s? That's my observation after watching 224 episodes so far.
They were allowed to be themselves, not the pretend over-dramatics they get game show contestants to do now.
The way the celebs and the audience were behaving what would you do. They were ready to storm the stage for God's sake!
